Match
Reports
14 January 2012 (League); North Shields 3 Cramlington United 2
We were without top-scorer Beth Hawksworth again this week, but took to the pitch with the right attitude and Hannah Bywater's skills soon brought the first of our goals. Soon after, some good passing resulted in a second, Beth Robinson this time powered the ball low and past the Cramlington United goalkeeper.
A good first quarter was followed, at least to begin with, by more good work, Hannahs Khan, Latif and Bywater were strong in defense, with Michelle Khan and Katie Laurie in goal. Further fine passing lead to Natalie Ellis (captain) scoring our third goal despite a crowded penalty box.
But Cramlington weren't giving up, scoring two goals in the second quarter. Nerves were jangling but Shields stood firm, some great footwork and passing from Lucy Maughan, but we just couldn't score any more goals past an in-form Cramlington goalkeeper.
Katie Laurie made some crucial saves in our goal towards the end of the match, winning her the MOTM award.
Goals; Bywater, Robinson, Ellis
3 Dec 2011: Corbridge United 0 North Shields 4 (Shield semi-final)
Sunny but cold today and we once again met Corbridge, this time in the Shield, after they beat us in the last couple of minutes earlier in the season.
Shields started strongly and it was nearly the end of the quarter when Hannah Bywater knocked the ball over the goal-line, with some doubt from some that the ball was in. Moving on!
In the second quarter North Shields really turned on the style, good sharp passing and strong defending as always from all three Hannahs, Michelle and Katie. Beth Hawksworth was troubling Corbridge with her long throw-ins and two of these were flicked into the net by Natalie, Beth adding a goal of her own.
Lucy Maughan, Ella Pike and Beth Robinson continued to push for more goals but our job was done, bring on the Final and well played girls!
Goals; Bywater, Ellis (2), Hawksworth
Player of the match; Beth Hawksworth
05.11.11 - Westgate Girls 2 North Shields 4
A great match today as we changed our formation a bit (John's good idea!) looking to make up for a recent cup defeat on penalties against Westgate.
All of the girls played to their best and it wasn't long before Beths Robinson and Hawksworth had put us two nil in the lead, with a great pass from Hannah Latif creating the second goal. Strong when needed in defense today were Michelle Khan, Hannah Khan, Ella Pike and Hannah Latif. Captain Katie Laurie got her hands to any shots, including a fine high save from a Westgate corner kick.
It was all going our way and Natalie Ellis added a third, before Beth Hawksworth made it four, but Westgate didn't give up and scored two good goals, making the final score 4 - 2.
Player of the match was Natalie Ellis, well done to all!
Regards,
Andy

1 Oct 2011 - North Shields 2 Corbridge United 3
It was a very hot day and we had no substitutes today, so well done to all who played this whole match. Nice and solid in the first quarter with no goals, Hannah Khan saw her shot tipped away by the Corbridge goalkeeper.
By the end of the second quarter we found ourselves two nil down, Corbridge's second goal was a fierce shot that left Katie Laurie with little chance of a save, we changed our positions ready for a come-back.
Beth Hawksworth played striker in the third quarter and soon found the back of the net, first with a low shot and then with a fine left foot shot into the top corner, Beth nearly got a third goal but saw the shot go just wide, two all with one quarter left.
Natalie Ellis almost scored a wonder goal for Shields from near the corner flag, the shot just drifting past the goal. With a couple of minutes left Corbridge took a shot that Katie seemed to have covered, but a cruel deflection took the ball into our net. This had been a great game to watch, well played girls.
Team today; Katie Laurie, Hannah Khan, Natalie Ellis, Michelle Khan, Beth Hawksworth, Hannah Latif, Ella Pike
