Jasmine Stephenson grabbed a couple of goals with the other goals coming from Emily Pearson and Nicole Gardener.
The scoreline seemed unlikely after a slow start from Shields however the girls responded to the coaches request to up the tempo and four goals quickly followed as Shields got into gear.
Elizabeth Tait and Brooke Patterson kept the Montague forwards in check after a spectacular free kick had given them brief hope but with the game won both girls pushed forward in search of goals.Daisy Rowe came close to scoring before Nicole Gardener got a deserved goal to finish the scoring.

North Shields came up against a goalkeeper on the very top of her game at a windy but warm Gosforth Park.Time and time again the Phoenix keeper denied Shields and when Shields did manage to beat her the post and crossbar came to the Ashington sides rescue.
Shields though refused to panic and eventually got the goal their possesion deserved when Nicole Gardener finished off a sweeping move to put Shields one up.
Katie Barker grabbed a second  to give Shields some breathing space and Daisy Rowe made the game safe when she fired home from close range.
The league now breaks for Easter with Shields still pushing Bedlington hard for the title in a season which has seen both sides top the league at different times.

North Shields kept the pressure on League leaders Bedlington with a five goal show against the fast improving Cramlington side.Katie Barker and Nicole Gardener shared the goals and showed why they are the amongst the leagues most reliable goalscorers.
With Shields missing two key players and unable to make any substitutions it was important that they made a good start and they did just that with Katie Barker volleying them in front almost from the kick off.
Barker then went onto complete another hatrick before Cramlington struck back.
Nicole Gardener then scored a spectacular trade mark free kick and followed it up with an equally impressive second goal as Shields made the game safe.
Shields though can thank Daisy Rowe for an excellent point blank save just before Gardeners double wrapped the game up.
Both sides had chances as the game opened up with Maia Welsh going close before Cramlington grabbed a second goal.Shields defenders Elizabeth Tait and Brooke Patterson both produced solid performances at the back with Sian Nelson also having an impressive game in midfield Shields managed to avoid a potential banana skin to notch up another victory.

North Shields dug deep to grind out a victory over a battling Ashington side who gave everything but just as a draw seemed certain Shields centre forward Katie Barker lost her marker to turn in a  Brooke Patterson throw in.
The last minute goal means Shields keep the pressure on the unbeaten Bedlington Rockets with the the only two teams to top the league due to meet on the final day of the season.
If Shields go into that game with a chance of the title they can look back on this result as being crucial because for long periods of this game Shields were on that back foot against a resurgent Ashington.
Shields though have developed a habit of grinding out wins even when their not firing on all cylinders and  once again their determination not to be defeated saw them through.
Against the run of play Katie Barker cut inside from the right wing to fire Shields infront, but after some poor defending Ashington drew level.
Both sides then had chances to grab a winner as one side then the other seemed to be on top.
As the game headed for full time Shields had keeper Emily Pearson to thank for keeping them level but as Ashington supporters were about to celebrate their best result of the season Shields stole a winner to break the hosts hearts.

North Shields took along time to finally see off a plucky Montague side who bossed the games early stages.Shields struggled to get any momentum as Montague spurned several good chances. As they have done all season though even when they appear to be struggling the girls dragged themselves back into the game.Katie Barker beat several defenders and then the keeper as Shields edged infront. The games best goal soon followed with Barker collecting a pass from Brooke Patterson to center for Nicole Gardiner to volley a second goal for Shields. With Emily Pearson dominating the midfield Shields created more chances with Jasmine Stephenson,Sian Nelson and Maia Welch all coming close before Barker and Gardiner again scored.
The final quarter saw Elizabeth Tait and Daisy Rowe pushing forward as Montague began to tire.Barker completed her hat-trick to give Shields a fifth and final goal.
North Shields have certainly played better this season but showed the character to grind out a result that keeps them in with a chance of the title.

For the second weekend in a row the title chasing sides met with Bedlington again coming out on top to reach this seasons cup final. At one point Bedlington had raced into a four goal lead but Shields finished strongly with Nicole Gardiner twice beating the Rockets keeper.
Indeed in a frantic finish Gardiner had another effort hacked off the line as Shields laid siege to the Bedlington goal.
The two teams will play once more with Shields hoping to take heart from their battling finish however they also know that if they start that game like this one their title hopes will be over.

CUP SEMI FINAL
NORTH SHIELDS 0 V 4 BEDLINGTON ROCKETS

North Shields once again came second best to the unbeaten Bedlington in the eagerly awaited semi final. In a tense opening quarter both sides battled for dominance as defenders kept their opposition at bay.The second quarter saw Bedlington edge infront and then quickly double their lead as Shields struggled to get any possesion of the ball.
Katie Barker and Nicole Gardener continued to pressure the Bedlington defence with Gardener's corners producing Shields best chances.Just as it looked like Shields might get back into the game Bedlington crashed in a spectacular third.
The last quarter saw Shields again show their determination with some whole hearted challenges, Emily Pearson,Daisy Rowe and Sian Nelson all made last ditch blocks as Bedlington  pushed forward.
As the clock ticked down Bedlington  pounced to grab another goal as Shields went looking for what would have been a well earned consolation goal.
So the cup run came to an end but Shields can take heart from a battling performance which saw Elizabeth Tait edge out Brooke Patterson for the man of the match with Jasmine Stephenson also impressing with some brave goalkeeping.
Shields and Bedlington meet again this weekend in what will most likely be a game that will decide the title and although Bedlington will be firm favourites if Shields can get the crucial first goal it could make for an epic battle.

NORTH SHIELDS 12 V 0 BLYTH TOWN
BARKER 5, GARDENER 2, PEARSON 2, STEPHENSON 2 & NELSON 1

North Shields might have been convincing winners but most people were left wondering how top of the table Shields ended up playing a side from a division lower.

With the next fortnight bringing a cup semi final and a potential title decider with the Bedlington Rockets a more competitive fixture with out being disrespectful to Blyth would been ideal preparation for the games ahead.
Bedlington handed Shields their only defeat so far this season in a pre-league fixture back in October and it will be fascinating to see if Shields can match their rivals in the eagerly awaited double header.
Both sides have scored plenty of goals so it could well be the defending that settles the outcome of the two games.

North Shields produced a hard working performance in miserable conditions to overcome fast improving Phoenix at a freezing and wet Gosforth Park.
Phoenix held Shields at the end of the first quarter due to some wayward finishing and some fantastic stops from their goalkeeper. The second quarter looked like it would continue in the same vain until Katie Barker broke the deadlock to put Shields infront.
Shields then scored again after a great pass from Brooke Patterson picked out Daisy Rowe on the left wing,Rowe beat her marker to play a inviting cross across the face of the goal which Barker just beat the keeper to doubling Shields lead.
The penultimate quarter saw Shields lay siege to the Phoenix goal with their keeper twice denying Emily Pearson, saving at the feet of Mia Welch and also keeping out efforts from Nicole Gardener and Sian Nelson.
Gardener though was not to be denied and after some good close control she beat the keeper to make it 3-0.
Almost immediately Phoenix hit back to trail 3-1 going into the final quarter.
Shields had Elizabeth Tait to thank for a last ditch tackle as Phoenix pushed forward in a tense last quarter. At the other end Jasmine Stephenson was unlucky not to score as the ball ping ponged around the penalty area.
Barker though did manage to beat the inspired keeper to grab her third and eventually see off the plucky Phoenix challenge.
Next week Shields face Blyth Town before a cup and league doubleheader with the only team to beat them this season  the all conquering Bedlington Rockets.

North Shields turned in their best performance of the season with Katie Barker hitting five goals to leave Wylam rocking by the half-way point of the game.Sian Nelson quickly added a sixth soon after the restart then Nicole Gardener took   over, grabbing an excellent hat-trick as Shields piled forward looking for more goals. This was without a doubt their best performance of the season. The defensive trio of Daisy Rowe,Brooke Patterson and Elizabeth Tait made sure Wylam were frustrated in attack whilst hard working midfielders Emilly Pearson,Mia Welch and Jasmine Stephenson controlled the middle of the pitch and drove Shields forward.Sian Nelson again joined Gardener and Barker amongst the goals in a fine team performance. With games against AE Phoenix then a double header with the only team to defeat Shields,Bedlington Rockets  coming up the next month will be crucial in deciding Shields cup and title ambitions

Both sides went into this game in good form and with hopes of challenging Bedlington Rockets for the league title and with only a few minutes gone Wylam were off to a flyer as the Shields defence backed off allowing the Wylam forward to beat the keeper to give them an early advantage.

North Shields quickly hit back with Katie Barker equalising, then putting them infront before Sian Nelson added a third. As the game went on Shields began to dominate and added more goals from Nicole Gardener and Jasmine Stephenson. The victory keeps Shields in the title race and whilst the goalscorers rightly take credit the victory was built on some excellent defensive performances from Elizabeth Tait,Brooke Patterson and Daisy Rowe throw in determined performances  from Mia Welch and Emilly Pearson and Sian Nelson in midfield,Shields go into future fixtures in good form.

NORTH SHIELDS 6 V 0 BEDLINGTON BULLDOGS

G U10 FOOTBALL SAT 29/01/2011

A good start and a good finish saw North Shields keep up their title challenge against a young but talented Bedlington side.In freezing conditions Shields opened up a 3-0 lead in the first quarter with Nicole Gardener opening the scoring. With more chances being missed it was Emily Pearson who doubled the lead with a drive from the edge of the area.As Shields kept the pressure on Gardener was unlucky not to score again as chances came thick and fast.

Just as it looked like Bedlington would manage to go in only two down Katie Barker pounced after a scramble in the box to send Shields in 3-0 up at the break.
Whilst the first quarter had been promising the second was definetly one to forget as Shields became sloppy and disorganised. The third quarter saw an improvement but Shields were still struggling to impose themselves on a team with several younger players in their ranks.Infact Shields had Daisy Rowe to thank for a brave save that denied the Bulldogs a goal back although at the other end Mia Welch came close to increasing the lead.
With Rowe recovered from her knock she began the final quarter in fine style getting on the end of an excellent pass from the impressive Brooke Patterson to give Shields a 4-0 lead.
Shields lead by Jasmine Stephenson poured forward in search of more goals and Sian Nelson went close twice at the far post to adding to the tally. As the clock ticked down Barker added a fifth then a sixth completing her hat-trick and finishing the days scoring.
As the teams left the pitch defender Elizabeth Tait was deservedly awarded the man of the match award for another assured display at the heart of the Shields defence.
At the end of the game manager Richard Stephenson described Shields performance as "pleasant enough, although easily distracted and must do better".
Lets hope with difficult games coming up the Girls dont find themselves in detention!

NORTH SHIELDS 5 - 1 CRAMLINGTON JUNIORS
G U10 FOOTBALL SAT 22 JAN 2011

North Shields under 10 girls continued their fine start to the New year with no fewer than four girls sharing the five goals. The final score seemed unlikely as Cramlington shaded a first quarter of  few chances indeed in the early stages of  the game it was the defence who kept Shields level with Elizabeth Tait and Brooke Patterson helping to hold back a lively Cramlington attack. The second  quarter  saw Shields playing at a much better tempo and they got their reward when Sian Nelson slotted a tidy shot past the Cramlington keeper. The next quarter saw Shields press home their advantage with Nicole Gardener showing excellent control to not once but twice fire past the keeper as Shields took control. The last quarter saw chances and goals at both ends as both sides pushed forward. It was Shields who struck first after Jasmine Stephenson and Katie Barker combined to play in Daisy Rowe who kept her cool to give Shields a fourth goal.Cramlington though refused to give up and got a deserved consolation goal.Shields regrouped and went looking for more goals with Mia Welch creating a chance for Emily Pearson which fizzed just wide of the goal. As full time approached Shields got a fifth with Barker beating the keeper and just beating the referee's final whistle. The next few weeks see Shields facing new challenges with games against both Bedlington sides and a double header against Wylam.

14/01/11 - NORTH SHIELDS 2-0 ASHINGTON G U10

In difficult conditions North Shields eventually overcame a stubborn Ashington side .With a strong wind blowing across the pitch it was Ashington who started the game better than Shields without creating any clearcut chances. The second quarter saw Shields match Ashington as the game became a physical encounter with both teams battling for dominance.

North Shields went into the third quarter on the front foot and after a sustained amount of pressure Ashington finally cracked, with Katie Barker cutting inside from the right to fire a powerfull drive past the Ashington keeper.Shortly later it was 2-0,Jasmine Stephenson drove forward after winning the ball and picked out Barker, who turned to play in Emily Pearson,as the defence backed off Pearson smashed the ball past the Ashington keeper to double Shields lead.

The final Quarter saw Shields defend their lead to run out deserved winners.

The defensive trio of Brooke Patterson,Elizabeth Tait and Daisy Rowe all played their part in keeping up Shields unbeaten start to the new year and with Mia Welch,Sian Nelson and Nicole Gardener all contributing with impressive performances the Shields management went home happy after a gutsy display from the girls.

16.10.10 - North Shields Jun 8 - 1 Ashington

Goals : Jasmine Stephenson, Katie Barker, Nicole Gardener, Daisy Rowe

A goal almost from the kick off turned this tight fixture the way of North Shields: Katie’s shot being fumbled by the Ashington keeper. With Jasmine Stephenson letting nothing past her in goal, Elizabeth Tait and Brooke Patterson in commanding form in defence and Emily Pearson working well with Nicole Gardener and Sian Nelson to punish any slip ups in the Ashington defence, Shields were never looking likely to lose out. By the half way mark the score was 5-0 to Shields and with Daisy Rowe in dominant form in defence then goal and later wing there was no way back and although a goal was pulled back it was a minor blip. Katie and Nicole recorded hat tricks in the game.

9.10.10 - North Shields Jun 6 - 2 AE Phoenix
 Goals: Katie Barker, Brooke Patterson

Report: the girls raced into a 3-0 lead with two goals from Katie and a rare thunderbolt from Brooke, only to be pegged back to 3-2 in the 3rd quarter. However Katie wasn’t finished and her hat trick in the final quarter, helped by some great wingplay from Maia Welch sealed the victory.
