29/1/12 North Shields Hawks 5 Wallsend BC Valencia 2
Scorers: Harrison 3, Spellman 2
On a heavy John Spence pitch the Hawks recovered from a brief scare to come through and produce another comfortable win. North Shields took the lead when an excellent run and cross from Michael found Josh who managed to squeeze the ball over the line. The second quarter saw the Hawks come under some pressure and two quick goals from the Wallsend outfit saw the Hawks trail going into the third quarter.
In typical style the Hawks found an extra gear and with their usual determination produced three quick goals, two from Michael and one from Josh. The fourth quarter saw Josh complete his hat trick and with strong performances from all the players Man of the Match went to Owen.
Team: Baker, Brown, Adderley, Spellman, Spraggon, Harrison, Balloch, Maddison, Kennedy
28/1/12 North Shields Hawks 6 Cramlington Town Whites 0
Scorers: Spellman 2, Harrison, Balloch, Maddison, Kennedy
What on paper looked like a tricky game for the Hawks turned into a comfortable win against the lower league opposition. Goals from Michael (2), Cameron, Reece, Owen and Man of the Match Josh saw the Hawks produce another good performance.
Team: Baker, Brown, Adderley, Spellman, Spraggon, Harrison, Balloch, Maddison, Kennedy
22/1/12 - Wallsend BC Madrid 2 - 7 North Shields Hawks
To produce a victory against Wallsend at any time is a great result but to do it so convincingly was extra special. The whole team responded to everything the managers told them to do and in the current crop of players North Shields have a team that fight and battle to the very last minute of every game. The first two quarters were even with the Hawks taking the lead from a right wing run and shot from Josh. Wallsend were then awarded a penalty as Louis tried to catch the ball in the box.(It's football not netball Louis) Cameron in the Hawks goal nearly produced a magnificent save as the penalty sneaked into the bottom corner.
During the second quarter North Shields picked the pace up and from a corner they regained the lead as Josh once again was on hand to fire the ball into the roof of the net. Not to be outdone Wallsend responded in typical fashion and again drew level. Some fine defending from Alex kept Wallsend to long range efforts and from this point on North Shields took total control of the game. Some excellent dribbling down the right from Josh saw him cross the ball for Owen to slot home. The third quarter was again all about North Shields and in typical style Man of the Match Louis went on one of his Steven Gerrard style runs through the centre of midfield to fire a powerful shot past the Wallsend goalkeeper.
The fourth quarter saw the Hawks score a further three goals as Owen doubled his tally and Michael produced two further good goals. One of these resulting from probably the best move of the game as Jessica won the ball at the back and with a 20 yard pass found Cameron on the left who in turn provided an inch perfect crossfield ball for Michael to convert.
A fine result against a strong Wallsend team.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Brown, Spellman, Spraggon, Harrison, Balloch, Kennedy
8/1/12 - North Shields Hawks 4 Coast Soccer 1
Scorers: Spellman 3, Balloch
For the second time this season the Hawks produced a fine performance against their local rivals. Once again the Coast goalkeeper made some fantastic saves to stop the Hawks taking a commanding lead in the first quarter. The deadlock was eventually broken when Michael produced a great cross from the left for Cameron to muscle the ball across the line.
The second quarter saw Coast draw level with some good play. From the resulting kick off the North Shields team were awarded a corner which was taken by Louis and with a first time effort Michael was on hand to regain the lead.
Coast Soccer applied the pressure in the third quarter and some excellent defending from both Alex and Jessica helped North Shields preserve the lead. As in so many games this season North Shields rallied to produce a strong last quarter which saw Man of the Match Michael score two well taken goals to complete his hat trick.
A great start to the post Christmas league.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Brown, Spraggon, Spellman, Harrison, Balloch, Maddison.
11/12/11 North Shields Hawks 8 Cramlington Juniors Santa Fe 1
Scorers: Spellman 4, Kennedy 2, Harrison, Balloch
The Hawks final game before the Christmas break saw them produce one of their best performances of the season. The first two quarters were tight as the North Shields team battled against their physically stronger opposition but the deadlock was broken in the first quarter when a cross from Michael on the left was met on the volley by Josh to score the first goal. Cramlington fought back in the second quarter and from a corner they scored a good goal. At this point it seemed as though the match may be close but all of the hard work in training with passing and moving finally seemed to pay off as the Hawks took total control of the game. Before the end of the second quarter Cameron Balloch produced a sublime touch and finish to start the momentum.
The final two quarters were all about North Shields and the lead was increased when Owen went on a strong run to finish in style. The fourth quarter produced a further five goals of which four game from Man of the Match Michael. The best of which was a long range effort from about 25 yards which looped over the goalkeepers head. Owen also doubled his tally with a fine finish at the back post.
With 11 wins and 3 defeats in the pre Christmas league the Hawks can be very proud of their 3rd place finish. Both managers would like to thank all of the players and parents for their efforts this year and wish you all a Merry Christmas.

4/12/11 North Shields Hawks 12 Cramlington Utd Lions 0
Scorers: Spellman 3, Harrison 2, Maddison 2, Balloch 2, Adderley 2, Spraggon
The Hawks penultimate game before Christmas saw them produce some good football against a newly formed Cramlington Team. The goals were shared around and there were some good performances from all the players. Most notably from Man of the Match Alex who managed to push up into an unfamiliar mid-field role to score two well taken goals. These were his first two goals of the season and the delight on the touchline was there for everyone to see particularly in his Mum's reaction.
The Hawks goalkeeper Cameron also made a guest appearance out of goal and came close to scoring on a number of occasions. Well done to everyone.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Brown, Spellman, Spraggon, Harrison, Balloch, Maddison, Kennedy.
27/11/11 North Shields Hawks 6 Berwick Rangers 1
Scorers: Spellman 4, Spraggon, Harrison
A trip up the coast on one of the windiest days of the year saw the Hawks produce one of their best performances of the season. Against a Berwick team with a good track record this campaign the North Shields team showed what a good passing team they can be. From the first whistle with the wind at their backs the Hawks stormed into a 3 goal lead at the end of the first quarter with some fine finishing from Louis, Josh and Michael.
The second quarter saw the Hawks play some flowing football keeping the ball on the ground to counteract the strong wind in their face. They produced a number of chances but were unable to increase the lead and just before the whistle Berwick were awarded a corner from which they pulled a goal back.
The third quarter was all about Man of the Match Michael who produced 3 fantastic goals to take his tally to four and the Hawks into a five goal lead. His first being an excellent run from the half way line and a shot from the edge of the box which saw the ball fly high into the net. The next two were curling left foot efforts from the right hand side which managed to find the corner of the net.
The final quarter again saw the Hawks pile pressure on the opposition but they were unable to increase the lead. Both Jessica and Josh coming close on a number of occasions. All players produced excellent performances but special mention to Alex who once again provides the defensive qualities all teams need.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Brown, Spraggon, Spellman, Harrison, Balloch, Maddison, Kennedy
20/11/11 North Shields Hawks 2 Alnwick Town Cobras 3
Scorers: Kennedy 2
After their previous win the Hawks went into this game with lots of confidence. The deadlock was eventually broken in the third quarter when Louis and Josh combined well for Josh to provide a strong shot which was saved by the opposition goalkeeper and Owen was on hand to slot the ball home.
Alnwick who had only suffered 1 defeat all season showed their fight and were soon on top scoring 2 well taken goals to edge into the lead. The final quarter saw chances at both ends and a fine long range effort from Michael saw him hit the post and once again Owen was on hand to provide the finish. The game looked as though it was heading for a draw but in the final few minutes Alnwick broke quickly and with a low shot sneaked the ball into the bottom corner to snatch a win.
A disappointing defeat and a lesson learnt by the Hawks in that you can't take any team lightly. Lady of the Match once again went to Jessica who continues to improve week after week with that never say die attitude.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Brown, Spraggon, Spellman, Harrison, Kennedy, Balloch, Maddison

Scorers: Maddison 4, Kennedy 3, Spellman 3, Balloch 2, Brown, Harrison, Spraggon
After 2 disappointing defeats the Hawks were back in winning mood. The North Shields team dominated the game from start to finish with lots of good performances on show. Man of the Match went to Reece Maddison who scored 4 well taken goals.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Brown, Spraggon, Spellman, Harrison, Kennedy, Balloch, Maddison
13/11/11 North Shields Hawks 3 WBBC Sproggs 6
Scorers: Spellman, Balloch, Spraggon
After last weeks defeat the Hawks needed to get off to a good start against the unbeaten Sproggs. Having only conceded three goals all season North Shields knew they were in for a tough game and the first quarter proved that this was to be the case. No sooner had the whistle blown and the Sproggs raced into a 5-0 lead against a shell shocked opposition. The end of the quarter couldn't come quick enough for the Hawks to regroup and catch their breathe.
However, the next three quarters were a different affair. The Hawks composed themselves and started to play the kind of football they have played all season. Some excellent passing down the left between Michael and Cameron saw Michael calmly slot the ball home from a tight angle. This lifted the Hawks and they continued to show great resilience throughout the second quarter. Against the run of play the Sproggs scored again to even up the quarter.
The third and fourth quarter's saw the Hawks come out on top scoring a further two goals. The first from Man of the Match Cameron Balloch who continues to show great composure on the ball and a fantastic eye for a defence splitting pass. The goal of the game came from Louis who picked the ball up in his own half and ran with the ball to the edge of the opposition box to fire home and unstoppable effort. North Shields had further chances but were unable to find a fourth.
Although beaten by probably the best team they will play all season the Hawks showed their desire and commitment to the cause and both manager's would like to thank all of the players.

First Defeat for Brave Hawks
A hard fought battle against a strong Wallsend team resulted in the Hawk's first defeat of the season. It was always going to be a tight affair against two unbeaten teams. The away team were the first to score after North Shields had a number of good chances. A large crowd saw some excellent football against two of the best teams at Under 9 level.
The Hawks then managed to even things up as Cameron directed a fantastic header into the far corner of the net. Further opportunities came for the Hawks to take the lead but some excellent saves from the opposition goalkeeper kept the game even.
In the final quarter it was the Wallsend team who found that extra something to score two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead. The North Shields team continued to fight with Michael hitting the post and both Owen and Reece going close but it was not to be. Man of the Match went to Cameron Baker in the Hawks goal who made a number of 'World Class' fingertip saves that even Joe Hart would have been proud of. Well done to everyone for showing great determination.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Balloch, Spraggon, Brown, Spellman, Harrison, Kennedy, Maddison
16/10/11 North Shields Hawks 5 Coast Soccer 1
Scorers: Spellman 3, Harrison, Spraggon
The Hawks first real test of the season came in the form of Coast Soccer who like North Shields were unbeaten coming into this local derby. For the first game this season the Hawks were without their recognised goalkeeper so up stepped Reece who certainly didn't let his team mates down. North Shields got off to a flying start as some excellent centre forward play from Owen saw him control the ball and lay on an inch perfect pass to Josh who carried the ball into the opposition half to finish with some style. The lead was quickly doubled as Michael found Louis who fired the ball high into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. Had it not been for some excellent saves by the Coast keeper from further long range efforts from Louis and a close range effort from Josh then the score could have been increased further.
The second quarter started where the first quarter finished as Michael produced a strong run down the left passing the Coast fullback with ease and with a sweet left foot found the bottom corner of the net. The fourth goal again came from some excellent wing play from Josh who put a great ball into the box for Michael to double his tally. Further efforts from both Cameron and Louis again found the opposition goalkeeper in great form.
The third quarter was a tight affair as Coast gained more possession but great handling and kicking from Reece didn't allow them back into the game. Once again some confident centre forward play from Owen saw him go close on a number of occasions but just before the third quarter whistle Coast finally managed to pull one back from a tight angle. The final quarter saw North Shields further produce their ever improving passing game which resulted in a fifth goal. A great move saw Michael receive the ball just outside the box and with a strong run saw his legs taken from underneath him and a penalty awarded. Michael picked up the ball, placed it on the spot and fired the ball into the bottom corner to round off yet another impressive hat trick.
Both managers would like to thank all players for doing everything that was asked of them and showing great positional discipline, particularly Alex and Jessica who provided the defensive qualities all teams need. Jessica was once again awarded Lady of the Match for her tireless tackling and great defensive awareness.
Team: Maddison, Adderley, Brown, Spraggon, Spellman, Harrison, Balloch, Kennedy
9/10/11 North Shields Hawks 11 Blyth Rangers Orange 0
Scorers: Spellman 3, Harrison 3, Kennedy 2, Brown, Spraggon, Balloch
On surely the smallest pitch the Hawks will play on all season they played some excellent passing football to notch up another victory. All members of the team contributed and showed a selfless display which resulted in one way traffic for most of the game.
Hat tricks from both Michael and Man of the Match Josh along with a double strike from Owen and goals from Louis, Jessica and Cameron saw the Hawks come away with another good victory. The next 4 games will make or break the season as the Hawks face the other 4 unbeaten teams in the league. If they continue to play the same way then they should provide tough opposition. Well done to everyone.
Team: Baker, Balloch, Adderley, Spraggon, Brown, Spellman, Harrison, Maddison, Kennedy
2/10/11 North Shields Hawks 8 Bedlington Porto 1
Scorers: Spellman 4, Harrison, Kennedy, Maddison, Balloch
In front of a large crowd the Hawks produced another fine display of passing football to win convincingly. Once again all members of the team contributed to a confident team performance. The deadlock was broken in the first quarter when a strong free kick from outside the box from Louis struck the crossbar and quick thinking from Michael saw him fire the ball into the back of the net.
The second quarter saw a further two goals from Man of the Match Michael Spellman to complete yet another hat trick. The first being another trade mark weaving run to confidently slot the ball home and the second coming from a Josh corner and a quick reaction finish.
The third quarter yet again produced more pressure from North Shields and early in the quarter a strong run down the left from Reece saw him beat three men and somehow from a tight angle he managed to fire the ball into the roof of the net. Cameron in the Hawks goal again had very little to do but when called upon is always up to the challenge and the next goal came from a strong goal kick which found Jessica free in the opposition half. Her defence splitting pass found Owen who fired the ball home to continue his goal scoring run.
The final quarter produced three further goals from the Hawks. The first being a long range strike from Josh which was too strong for the opposition goalkeeper. Michael then once again produced a fine solo effort to bring his tally to four and the final goal came from Cameron who in his unfamiliar role as centre forward created a fantastic turn and shot to finish like a seasoned striker. Before the final whistle went Bedlington produced a consolation goal but another fine win from the Hawks. A special mention to Alex who once again provided the backbone to the Hawks defence.
Team: Baker, Adderley, Brown, Spraggon, Balloch, Spellman, Harrison, Maddison, Kennedy
25/9/11 Whitley Bay BC Greens 1 North Shields Hawks 7
Scorers: Spellman 3, Kennedy 2, Balloch, Maddison
Another convincing victory saw the Hawks extend their unbeaten start to the season to four games. All members of the team played their part in a good solid performance. The first two quarters were relatively quiet but two quick goals from Michael seemed to provide the confidence North Shields needed. The second of these goals was the pick of the bunch as Jessica passed the ball through the middle to Reece who played a great crossfield ball to Man of the Match Josh on the right wing and with his ever dependable right foot swung the ball across the box for Michael to confidently slot home.
The third and fourth quarters again provided some excellent passing football from the Hawks who seem to be improving with each game they play. Only one lapse in concentration allowed the opposition to score a consolation past Cameron who for most of the game was a spectator. Further goals from Reece, Cameron, two from Owen and another from Michael to complete his hat trick rounded off an impressive performance from the North Shields team. Roll on next week!
Team: Baker, Balloch, Adderley, Spraggon, Brown, Spellman, Harrison, Maddison, Kennedy
18/9/11 - North Shields Hawks 4 WBFC Barca 0
Scorers: Kennedy 3, Spellman
A third consecutive win to start the season saw the Hawks up against a determined Whitley Bay team. The first two quarters were both goalless with both teams finding it hard to breakdown the opposition defence. Alex, Louis and Cameron all produced strong performances and a special mention to Cameron who's distribution from defence to set up attacks was fantastic.
The third quarter saw the Hawks come to life and some fantastic wing play from both Michael and Josh eventually saw the deadlock broken. A quick break saw Michael produce a fine cross from the left and an unconventional cheeky overhead back heel from Owen somehow found the back of the net. I bet you can't do that again Owen. The lead was quickly doubled when a sharp turn and shot from Owen saw the ball slip through the goalkeeper's legs.
The fourth quarter again saw North Shields produce some fine passing football and from this the lead was increased. A strong run and Beckham like cross from Man of the Match Josh saw the ball reach Jessica who passed first time to Owen who calmly finished to complete a deserved hat trick against his old team. Let's hope this is the first of many. Whitley Bay produced some good counterattacks but some excellent tracking back from the ever strong Jessica and Cameron's safe pair of hands in the Hawks goal helped keep a clean sheet. Before the final whistle blew there was enough time for Michael to show what we all know he is capable of. A Messi like run through the middle of the opposition defence saw him round the goalkeeper to slot the ball home in style.
Well done to all players who once again when not performing at the level we know they can produced another convincing victory. Both managers would like to thank all the parents for their help before, during and after the game.
Team: Baker, Balloch, Adderley, Spraggon, Brown, Spellman, Harrison, Kennedy
11/9/11 - Ponteland Milan 1 North Shields Hawks 2
Scorers: Spellman, Harrison
Hawks second game in 24 hours saw them away to Ponteland. Although dominating most of the game the Hawks found it difficult to find the breakthrough until the second quarter when a good passing move from there own half saw Josh finish high into the roof on the net. The third quarter was again controlled by North Shields and it took until near the end of the quarter for Michael to double the lead for the Hawks. The quarter was not finished as the home team pushed forward to pull a goal back.
The fourth quarter was again dominated by the Hawks and the lead would have been increased had it not been for some excellent saves from the opposition goalkeeper. Another strong performance from Jessica saw her awarded her second Lady of the Match in as many days.
Team: Baker, Spraggon, Spellman, Brown, Balloch, Harrison, Maddison, Kennedy
10/9/11 North Shields Hawks 13 North Shields Falcons 0
Scorers: Spellman 6, Kennedy 2, Brown 2, Spraggon, Harrison, Maddison
With 3 new additions to the squad from last season the Hawks started this campaign in goal scoring mood. Owen, Reece and Cameron all made strong debuts and against a newly formed Falcons team the Hawks showed some excellent passing and moving which will surely be the key to a successful campaign. A mention to both Michael and Jessica as Michael scored an impressive 6 goals and Jessica was deservedly awarded Lady of the Match.
Team: Baker, Spraggon, Adderley, Spellman, Brown, Harrison, Balloch, Maddison, Kennedy
