MATCH
REPORTS
NORTH SHIELDS BARCA 2 VS 1 NORTH SHIELDS INTER
SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2007
For this club derby match the seven fit barca players took to the field
keyed up by the management team after a couple of poor performances.
In a tight first quarter which saw both sides having equal share of
opportunities in front of goal it was inter who broke the deadlock.
Unlike recent weeks barca kept their heads up and battled on to the
end of the quarter where it finished 1 nil.
Second quarter started much better for barca and were
rewarded after a strong run from scott payne ended with him scoring
the equaliser. Chances in this quarter were few and far between and
it ended 1 all.
The third quarter was much the same as the other two
with determined runs from the midfield three sam preston, scott payne,
and kyle burns matched with some
good passing with luke anderson. Solid defensive work
and timely tackles from both defenders robbie hall and joseph campbell.
following a good passing move which saw the ball land at kyle’s
feet inside the box which he lashed home to make the score 2 1 at the
end of this quarter.
the fourth quarter saw barca tiring slightly having no substitutes
to call on, this gave inter hope of an equaliser but oliver cox was
determined they were only going to score once today and with some brillant
work from him and his defenders they kept the ball out of the net. Final
score barca 2 inter 1. Well done to both teams
scorers – Scott Payne (1); Kyle Burns(1)
MAN OF MATCH – SCOTT PAYNE
North Shields Barca 0 vs 7 Blyth Town Greens
Sunday 28th October
Barca started the game very brightly and exerted some early pressure
on the Blyth defence. The Greens came into the game a little bit more
after this and they were denied a goal by a great save from Oliver Cox.
Shields continued to play well in quarter one in what was a competitive
start to the match and ended the quarter nil all. (0-0)
The second quarter started with Blyth very much on the front foot only
a brilliant save by Oliver prevented the Greens scoring what looked
like a certain goal. Undeterred by this, Blyth attacked at every opportunity
which built their confidence leading to five goals being scored over
ten minutes. (0-5) This effectively put the game beyond Shields. (0-5)
Despite facing an uphill task in quarter three, Barca’s heads
did not drop. A fine shot by Kyle Burns was skillfully saved by the
Blyth keeper. Following a short period of sound defending Barca carved
out their best chance of the game so far and Kyle was unlucky as his
shot hit the bar. Shortly after this, Blyth pressed forward again and
Shields were unlucky to concede another goal (0-6) to end the quarter.
The Greens had a buoyant start to the final quarter and quickly scored
a seventh goal. (0-7) Barca still did not give up and managed to force
a corner from which Jamie Dixon was unlucky not to score, skimming the
post. It was not to be Shields day as Blyth kept them out for the rest
of the match. Final score (0-7)
MAN OF MATCH – SAM PRESTON
Berwick Rangers 8 vs 2 North Shields Barca
Sunday 21st October
North Shields made the long journey north up the A1 to Berwick for
their sixth game of the season. Barca got off to an unlucky start conceding
a goal with only seconds on the clock (1-0). This seemed to invigorate
the Berwick team leading to a second goal five minutes later (2-0).
At this stage Shields were on the back foot and only good defence from
Scott Payne and Robbie Hall combined with good goal keeping from Oliver
Cox stopped Berwick further increasing their lead in quarter one. (2-0)
The second quarter started in similar fashion to the first with Shields
under a lot of pressure from the two front players for Berwick who were
very creative. As a result of this Berwick scored another three goals
in this quarter. (5-0)
During quarter three North Shields began to see more of the ball and
as a result had more momentum going forward. This allowed Jamie Dixon,
Kyle Burns and Luke Anderson to have attempts on goal – unfortunately
not to be rewarded with a score. When given the opportunity Berwick
continued to attack very strongly, a pattern throughout the match. Rangers
capitalized on this by adding another two goals by the end of the third
quarter. (7-0)
To their credit Barca did not give up. As a result of their persistence
they reaped the benefit when Kyle Burns opened the Barca account by
scoring their first goal in quarter four (7-1). During a more balanced
and competitive quarter Shields played very well and despite conceding
an eighth goal to Berwick (8-1) Barca’s second goal came from
a superb strike by Luke Anderson (8-2). In the closing minutes the Reds
worked hard for a third but were denied by the final whistle. (8-2)

MAN OF MATCH – LUKE ANDERSON
Sunday 14th October 2007 - Whitley Bay BC Yellows
1 vs 4 North Shields Barca
The autumn sun was shining on the teams as they took to the pitch at
Monkseaton for the game – so much so the keepers needed caps to
be able to see the ball! During the early part of the first quarter
play was evenly matched between the reds and the yellows however it
was Whitley Bay who took the lead initially. Despite two good shots
by Sam Preston Barca were unable to equalize ending quarter one 1-0
to WBBC Yellows.
Despite pressure from Whitley Bay the Barca defence remained firm at
the start of the second quarter. Shields took advantage of a good break
and Luke Anderson went ahead to score (1-1). The increasing confidence
of the team lead to greater creativity in play over the rest of the
quarter. There were excellent contributions going forward from Sam,
Luke Owston and Kyle Burns. At the end of quarter two the score remained
1-1.
This creativity and confidence was sustained throughout the third quarter.
Thanks to great team play – Barca combined strong defence from
Joseph Campbell & Robbie Hall and goalkeeping from Oliver Cox thus
allowing the front players the time and space to create chances: the
upshot of this was a second goal for Luke A (1-2) with Kyle Burns adding
a third (1-3) to end quarter three.
Shields continued to apply pressure over the entire final quarter.
Scott Payne & Robbie Hall providing a solid defence to deny WBBC
Yellows any chances. The midfield and strikers capitalized on their
chances when Jamie Dixon added a fourth goal to the Barca score line
(1-4). The reds kept up the pressure till the final whistle ending the
game with a victory (1-4).

Sunday 7th October 2007 - North Shields Barca
7 vs 2 Northburn Wanderers
Barca took to the field for their first home game on Collingwood playing
fields. After an unlucky start, conceding an own goal they recovered
well, Kyle Burns equalizing to end the first quarter 1-1.
Quarter two opened with some great play from both teams Shields were
unfortunate to concede another goal to Northburn despite a good attempt
on goal – again from Kyle. Barca were undeterred by this setback
and Kyle went on to score his second goal ending the quarter equal (2-2).
The third quarter started very brightly for Shields with an excellent
shot from Scott Payne saved by the Northburn keeper. Shortly after this
Barca were awarded a penalty for hand ball. Joseph Campbell took the
penalty but was unfortunate not to score. Barca continued to pressurize
Northburn and were rewarded when skillful play by Luke Owston gave them
a third goal (3-2). For the first time in the match the reds were ahead
and that is how quarter three ended (3-2).
Starting the final quarter ahead Barca went from strength to strength
with all of the team making very positive contributions. The excellent
teamwork paid off with a further four goals in the final quarter, three
for Luke Owston and one for Luke Anderson as Barca overpowered Northburn.
The final score of 7-2 reflected the determination of the team to keep
scoring even when victory was apparent (7-2).

Sunday 30th September 2007 - North Shields
Barca 1 vs 4 Blyth Rangers Valencia
Barca played well in the first quarter but were denied any score despite
good attempts on goal by Scott Payne and Sam Preston. Towards the end
of the quarter Blyth took the lead with a goal from a corner. (0-1)
Quarter two Barca had a lot of the play, Kyle was unlucky not to score
with a good shot saved by the Blyth keeper. Blyth went on to score a
second goal half way through the second quarter (0-2). Oliver Cox made
a great save stopping Blyth increasing their lead at the end of the
quarter.
Quarter three opened with a fly past from the Red Arrows, hot from
the start of the Great North Run! The distraction allowed Blyth to get
in an early goal
(0-3). Barca kept up the pressure with two excellent attempts on goal
by Kyle again saved by the Blyth goalie. Oliver saved a brilliant shot
taken from a Blyth free kick denying Blyth any more goals in the third
quarter.
In the final quarter Barca came out strongly and skillful goalkeeping
from Blyth was all that came between Jamie Dixon, Luke Anderson and
Luke Owston scoring in the first few minutes. Blyth were awarded a free
kick which they used to full advantage, scoring from the kick to take
them four ahead (0-4).
Kyle Burns managed to reduce the deficit to three by scoring a great
goal (1-4). Blyth had a further attempt on goal and again saved by Oliver
Cox the final score: North Shields Barca 1 – 4 Blyth Rangers Valencia.

MAN OF MATCH – OLIVER COX
Sunday 23rd September 2007 - Cramlington Santa
Fe 0-2 North Shields Barca
Barca took the field to play Cramlington Santa Fe who won the league
last season – a tough game was anticipated.
Barca came out of the blocks from the opening minute resulting in a
good shot from Luke Owston. This trend continued throughout the first
quarter with Barca consistently applying pressure on Santa Fe. Barca
were well organized and remained so for the rest of the match. Quarter
one ended with no goals. (0-0)
Barca started quarter two well and there were good shots on target
by Jamie Dixon and Kyle Burns saved by the Santa Fe goalie. The midfield
and defence of Barca played extremely well and as a result Santa Fe
were unable to create any opportunities on goal. The second quarter
also ended nil all.
Quarter three opened with some creative play from Barca resulting in
an excellent goal by Jamie Dixon. (0-1) Following this there were further
chances for Jamie and Luke Owston, this build up of pressure resulted
in Barca being awarded a penalty for handball by Santa Fe. Despite hitting
the ball well Shields were denied a goal by the Santa Fe keeper. This
did not affect Luke’s confidence as he went on to score within
minutes to take Barca two ahead at the end of the third quarter. (0-2)
In the final quarter Barca’s defenders Joseph Campbell and Robbie
Hall along with Scott Payne and Sam Preston in midfield frustrated Santa
Fe who had rare chances on goal. This combined with Oliver Cox’s
sound goal keeping on the few occasions when Santa Fe had a shot at
goal resulted in a goal free quarter to end the game with a Barca victory.
(0-2)

Sunday 16th September 2007 - Bedlington Eagles
6-2 North Shields Barca
Barca opened their season with an away fixture against Bedlington.
They took the field without any substitutes every player had to play
all four quarters. This was especially difficult with a very strong
wind blowing.
Barca opened the first quarter with some good early pressure which
culminated in a hand ball by Bedlington which resulted in a penalty
being awarded. Despite striking the ball well the Bedlington goalkeeper
made a good save.
Shortly after Bedlington pressed forward and took the lead with a good
low shot (1-0). Barca took the play up field and were rewarded with
a free kick just outside the penalty area. Luke Anderson struck the
ball superbly and gave their goal keeper no chance (1-1).
Despite playing into the wind Bedlington came back immediately making
it 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.
In quarter two Bedlington with the wind behind them managed to score
again but only one goal as Oliver made some great saves and the defence
was excellent! (3-1)
Barca had some good early chances in the third quarter only Bedlington’s
strong defence denied them any early goals. Bedlington scored their
fourth goal and Barca struck back with some great pressure resulting
in a second goal for Luke Anderson to end the quarter 4-2.
Playing into the wind in quarter four a weary Barca team conceded another
two goals. To their credit they didn’t give up and continued to
work hard preventing Bedlington winning by a bigger margin. The final
score 6-2 to Bedlington Eagles.
