MATCH REPORTS
27/11/11 - North Shields Hawks 3-1 Morpeth Sporting Wildcats
O'Reilly Wanless
Spencer
In blustery conditions at Gosforth Park the Hawks found themselves starting the game running against the elements, but after a hard fought first quarter the lads came away on level terms having dug their heels in & keeper Callum Elliott pulling off some confident saves when it really mattered. Into quarter 2 & the Hawks began to find the conditions a little more bareable with the wind in their sails, Morpeth soon found themselves on the receiving end of pressure which they finally sucumed to after another fantastic corner kick from Lennon O'reilly
which was deflected in off one of their own. Their could be absolutely no doubts with regards to the second goal as Reece Wanless turned on the edge of the area & cracked a splendid left footed drive into the roof of the net from a very accute angle. Morpeth showed great fighting spirit & beliefe as they created chance after chance but with Callum Elliott in this kind of form they were begining to run out of ideas. Morpeths keeper failed to keep hold of a James Spencer lob to take us 3-0 up. Morpeth pulled on back in the last quarter & despite giving us a few worrying minutes they just left it too late. 3-1 it ended, I was very proud of you boys today!!! job well done.
20/11/11
North Shields Hawks 3-0 Whitley Bay Boys Club Whites
The Hawks again bounced back to winning ways in a game in which we really had to dig our heels in. Having won a corner in the first minute of the game Lennon O'Reilly delivered another great ball into the box, neatly tucked away by Reece Wanless & we were looking in cruise control. Credit to Whitley though as they didn't put their heads down & kept coming at us, we failed to capitalise on a number of opportunities Throughout the game & Whitley almost bought their way back into it if not for some heroic goalkeeping from Callum Elliott. Wanless added a second with a trademark left footed drive from a free kick before Cameron Riach put the result beyond doubt a couple of minutes from time. So again it wasn't pretty but lets not forget for a team of whom most have never played in a team & are in their first season of league football, overall you'd have to say we are having a great season!
Sun 13/11/11 - Ellington Juniors 2-1 North Shields Hawks
Wanless
After last weeks impressive defensive display & centre forward Reece Wanless firing on all cylinders this fixture was always going to be tight. After a lively opening from kick off a battle of wits quickly ensued between the two teams as both sides struggled to find a way into the final third. Into the second quarter the Hawks started to win more of the tackles & put Ellington under pressure, after spending several desperate minutes trying to keep the ball out their own half Ellington finally sucomed to a thunderous left foot pile driver from Reece Wanless. The Hawks were dealt a sucker punch when Ellington were awarded a controversial free kick when keeper Callum Elliott was ruled to have handled the ball just a fraction outside the box, these kinds of decisions either go in your favour or go against you & thats football!. The boys appeared to go off the boil after Ellingtons equaliser & despite looking the stronger team we just didn't do enough to keep Ellington at bay. Having went 1-0 up many would have thought we'd go on to win it based on current form but a 2-1 defeat to one of the leagues top teams certainly isn't a bad result at all.
M.O.M - Reece Wanless
Sun 6/11/11 - North Shields U8 Hawks 2-0 Cramlington Town
O'Reilly, Wanless
The Hawks were keen to welcome back Ethan Butterworth to the starting line up to shore up the defense. After a 3-1 defeat last week in a closely fought battle with Cramlington Utd, the lads were dying to get out there & show they can bounce straight back. Having won the kick off we burst straight into attack mode through the middle of the pitch & got a shot away on goal in the early seconds of the game. With the Hawks now growing in confidence we were winning tackles & maintaining possession, it wasn't long before we were really piling on the pressure in the final third. The deadlock was finally broken by Lennon O'Reilly & another by Reece Wanless put the game to bed. An impressive defensive display kept out what little threat Town posed, 2-0 it ended. Clean sheet...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!! well done lads.
M.O.M - Lennon O,Reilly
30/10/11 - Cramlington Utd Pumas 3-1 North Shields Hawks.
Reece Wanless
Having a hattrick of wins under their belts the hawks started this one showing some confidence in attack & a desire to win back possession. the first 10 mins finished even with us having created the better opportunities, into quarter 2 we started to turn up the pressure on cramlington & the deadlock was finaly broken by a Reece Wanless header from 3 yards. As the old saying goes, teams are most vulnerable after scoring & a few minutes later Utd did just that as Callum Elliott, after making several good stops, just couldn't keep out a powerfull shot from close range. 1 all it stayed until the final 10 mins with both teams creating chances at either end, it was always going to be the team to go in front that would go on & win it & we did have a good go but just got caught short at the back & sadly were punished for it. A draw would have been a more fitting result but the scoreline remains respectable. Good game lads!
M.O.M James Spencer
23/10/11 - North Shields U8 Hawks 7-0 Bedlington Town U8 Milan
Wanless 3 Riach 2
Spencer 1 Williams 1
The Hawks welcome the return of James O'keefe to the starting line up who replaces Ethan Butterworth at right back .
No change to the formation as we start with 2-1-2-1. Bedlington tested us from the early seconds as they took possession
in midfield & attempted an early shot on goal in the hope of catching out keeper Callum Elliot...Cheeky! but well handled
by the ever alert Elliott. Back in possession & Shields started to show their quality in attack, with some confident play from
Lennon O'Reilly we started to pile on the pressure in the final third before Cameron Riach made a run inside the area &
started the onslaught with a crisp finish. Connor Williams made it 2 before the break from an acute angle albeit via a
Bedlington deflection, Williams will take the spoils. Shields continued to pile on the pressure into quarter 2, again with
O'Reilly showing confidence & skill on the ball with darting runs & clever passing, we quickly doubled our lead with goals
from Spencer & Wanless. Any opposing attempts made in quarter 3 were quickly dealt with once again by a fortress like
shields defence. Into quarter 4 and shields now knew it was their's to throw away but weren't finished yet as Wanless
completed a stunning hattrick. 7-0 it ended, if the Hawks were on cloud 9 last week....they're in 7th heaven this week!
M.O.M - Lennon O'Reilly
16th October 2011- North Shields Hawks 6 - 0 Bedlington CSC
The hawks went into this game on the back of a much needed win against Whitley Bay Porto. With new signing Cameron Riach giving the
team a fresh look & another attacking option, the lads appeared seemingly unphased by a four mile sponsored walk just 24hrs ago as they
quickly showed their dominance from the off & came away with the lion share of possession in the first quarter. After quickly taking control in the second quarter it wasn't long before Lennon O'Reilly started the rout with a neat finish inside the area. Bedlington began to struggle against the flow of great passing & clever movement during which James Spencer opened his account for team & Club with an absolute Exocet, while goals from Reece "THE ROCKET" Wanless & Cameron Riach sent us cruising at 4 nil up. To Bedlingtons credit, they did have a go making attempts to get forward but thanks to solid defensive performances from Ethan Butterworth & Sean Dunwoodie, they only managed to force a couple of corners...swiftly dealt with by some tidy goalkeeping from Callum Elliot. Going into the final quarter the Hawks didn't rest on their laurels as Cameron & Reece both bagged a brace (2 goals). Back to back wins & a first clean sheet.....THE HAWKS ARE ON CLOUD NINE!!!!
A massive thank you to all those who sponsored us on our walk from Tynemouth Priory to St Mary's lighthouse.
Total funds raised will follow shortly.
M.O.M - Cameron Riach
