North Shields Leopards 3-2 North Shields Cougars
The last game of the season produced probably the most exciting game
of the season with both Shields teams a credit to the club.
Ronan Dunwoodie was in goal for the first period and the game was end
to end. Ronan Dunwoodie made a great save, then he played a long ball
to Matthew Adamson who ran at the Leopards defence before shooting narrowly
wide. Joshua Nandy won the ball passed to Leon Snowdon who squared to
Matthew Adamson who again shot inches wide with the keeper beaten. The
best move of the period saw Evan Suddick win the ball and play a great
through ball to Matthew Adamson who hit a superb shot which hammered
against the post. The first period ended 0-0. Joshua Nandy was in goal
for the second period and the Leopards were slightly on top during this
period. The Leopards took a two goal lead during this period with two
good goals from their star player Alan Gray. The Cougars had plenty
of chances themselves during this period but had no luck in front of
goal and were also thwarted by Tyler Walton in goal. Leon Snowdon passed
a great ball to Ronan Dunwoodie who’s excellent shot was saved
by the keeper at the other end Joshua Nandy made a great save and then
a long ball found Joseph Connor who beat his man and played an excellent
ball to Steven Taylor who shot just wide. The second period ended 0-2
with the Cougars unlucky to be two down. Joseph Connor was in goal for
the third period, the game was again end to end with both teams fully
committed and both playing some excellent football. Ronan Dunwoodie
took a long throw to Matthew Adamson who had a great header saved by
the keeper. Ronan Dunwoodie shot wide and Josh Finlay had a great shot
saved by the keeper. Leon Snowdon took an excellent corner from which
Matthew Adamson shot wide. The third period ended 0-2. Evan Suddick
was in goal for the fourth period which started with Alan Gray completing
a great hat trick from an almost impossible angle. This was the signal
for the Cougars to charge forward, they had played very well and did
not deserve to be trailing 0-3 and their pride was hurt. The magnificent
Cougars team spirit was superb as they surged forward during this last
period. Joshua Nandy played a great ball to Leon Snowdon who had a brilliant
shot saved by the keeper. Then Leon won the ball passed to Joshua Nandy
who played it through to Matthew Adamson who ran at the defence and
hammered the ball into the net. Joseph Connor beat two men and had a
thunderous goal bound effort blocked. At the other end Evan Suddick
made a good save, before Matthew Adamson made it 2-3 with a good goal,
slotting home an excellent ball from Ronan Dunwoodie. The Cougars continued
to attack in pursuit of the equaliser their spirited performance deserved.
Ronan Dunwoodie and Leon shot wide then in the last minute Leon Snowdon
won the ball on the half way line ran at the Leopards defence, past
two defenders and hit an excellent shot from just inside the penalty
area which went agonisingly inches over the cross bar. The game ended
2-3 and both sets of players were cheered of the pitch in a very sporting
atmosphere. As one of the Leopards parents said if the game had another
five minutes to go the Cougars would probably have won. Joseph Connor,
James Percy and Steven Taylor were awesome in defence, Evan Suddick,
Leon Snowdon, Ronan Dunwoodie, Josh Finlay and Joshua Nandy fought brilliantly
in midfield and Matthew Adamson was lethal up front scoring another
two trademark goals. Well done to the Leopards for playing their part
in an excellent game and for finishing third in the league. Well done
to the Cougars for a tremendous season which ended with a great performance.
The progress both sides have made since the season started has been
unbelievable, North Shields can be proud of both of these teams. The
Cougars had an excellent season and the fact that they did not have
a goal keeper after the 2nd December 2007 makes their performances even
more astonishing. Special thanks to the four lads who have played in
goal each week, Ronan Dunwoodie, Joshua Nandy, Joseph Connor and Evan
Suddick. Also special thanks and goodbye to Evan Suddick and Josh Finlay
who will be staying with the Under 8’s next year, you have both
been brilliant a pleasure to manage, good luck with the new team.

Ashington 4-1 North Shields Cougars
The Cougars returned to form producing a great performance in an end
to end game against Top of the League Ashington.
Ronan Dunwoodie volunteered to go in goal for the full game and the
Cougars more than matched their opponents in the first period despite
falling behind to an early goal. The Cougars came roaring back and Leon
Snowdon beat a defender before crossing from the by-line, the ball was
scrambled away for a corner just as Matthew Adamson was about to pounce.
Then Matthew Adamson beat two men and hit a great shot which the keeper
saved pushing it round the post for a corner at the other end Ronan
Dunwoodie made a good save before Evan Suddick took an excellent in-swinging
corner which was pushed onto the post by the keeper and scrambled away
by a defender. The first period ended 0-1. There were very chances in
the second period which was again end to end with a tremendous battle
taking place in midfield. The only two chances of the period fell to
Ashington who increased their lead against the run of play, the other
chance saw Ronan Dunwoodie make another great save. The second period
ended 0-2. The third period was again end to end with Steven Taylor
winning the ball on the half way line then playing a superb through
ball to Matthew Adamson who beat his man and crossed to Josh Finlay
whose shot went inches wide. Ashington increased their lead with a breakaway
goal, then Josh Finlay again shot inches wide with the keeper beaten.
Just as the period was coming to an end Ashington scored a fourth with
another rare break. The third period ended 0-4. The Cougars dominated
the fourth period with Josh Finlay having a great shot saved by the
keeper at the other end Ronan Dunwoodie made a superb treble save, first
he dived to his left to push out a powerfull shot, the rebound was hammered
straight back in and again Ronan dived to push the ball out it fell
to the Ashington strikers feet and Ronan bravely dived at his feet to
clutch the ball. Ronan then made another great save before Matthew Adamson
had a shot blocked on the goal line. Leon Snowdon went on a great run
beating two men but shot narrowly wide. Then the Cougars got the goal
there excellent performance had deserved the keeper kicked out the ball
which fell to the feet of Matthew Adamson at the edge of the penalty
area, he coolly chipped the ball straight back over the keepers head
for an excellent goal. The game ended 1-4. This was a great performance
against the Champions and the score line flattered their opponents.
The game was end to end with both teams producing excellent entertainment,
the Cougars created as many chances as their opponents but had no luck
in front of goal. Ronan Dunwoodie was superb in goal making many saves
including a treble save, Joseph Connor, James Percy and Steven Taylor
were magnificent against the best team in the league. Leon Snowdon,
Joshua Nandy, Josh Finlay and Evan Suddick were immense in a brilliant
midfield battle and upfront Matthew Adamson worked the Ashington defence
very hard never allowing them any time to relax scoring another brilliant
goal.

North Shields Cougars 0-4 Guidepost Juniors
The Cougars produced their worst performance of the season against
bottom of the league Guidepost, a team they had beaten 6-0 recently.
Joseph Connor volunteered to go in goal for the full match. The first
period was end to end with both sides creating chances Evan Suddick
had an excellent shot from the edge of the penalty area which went inches
over the bar and Matthew Adamson had a good shot saved by the keeper.
A great move from the Cougars saw Steven Taylor win the ball, pass to
Leon Snowdon who played a good through ball to Matthew Adamson who squared
to Josh Finlay who had a great shot well saved by the keeper. Evan Suddick
took an excellent in swinging corner which was saved by the post as
it was about to cross the line. The first period ended 0-0. The second
period was end to end with very few chances, Joseph Connor saved well
for the Cougars and Ronan Dunwoodie had a good shot saved by the keeper.
Joseph Connor made another great save, before Josh Finlay won the ball
and beat two defenders hit a superb shot which was saved by the keeper
then Ronan Dunwoodie had another good shot saved by the excellent keeper.
Just as the period was about to end the Cougars conceded a goal from
one of the few chances their opponents had during this period. The second
period ended 0-1. The Cougars heads went down for the next period and
they switched off conceding three goals in five minutes. The third period
ended 0-4. The Cougars recovered in the fourth period and fought hard
to get back into the game, Leon Snowdon had a shot cleared of the line
and from a corner Steven Taylor hit an excellent shot from outside the
penalty area which flew inches past the post with the keeper beaten.
At the other end Joseph Connor made another great save. The game ended
0-4. This was not a great performance from the Cougars with most of
the damage was caused during the third period when they conceded three
goals in five minutes. This was a game the Cougars should have won but
they came up against a much improved Guidepost team who appeared to
want to win the game more and who played with a team spirit similar
to the one normally produced by the Cougars. With their team spirit
missing, the Cougars were outplayed which has happened very rarely in
the last few months. Joseph Connor played well in goal James Percy,
Joshua Nandy, Leon Snowdon, Josh Finlay, Evan Suddick, Ronan Dunwoodie
and Matthew Adamson all tried hard but could not produce their normal
excellent performances of recent times. Special mention for Steven Taylor
who was immense, head and shoulders above his colleagues, he fought
and won every ball and showed great spirit. Well done Steven.

North Shields Cougars 3-1 CJ Palmeras
The Cougars returned to form with a superb performance
against second top of the league CJ Palmeras who had already beaten
the Cougars twice this season. Ronan Dunwoodie was in goal for the first
period and the Cougars were brilliant from the start. Josh Finlay supplied
a great cross which Leon Snowdon met excellently hitting a superb shot
inches wide. Then Evan Suddick took a brilliant corner which Joshua
Nandy hit just wide. Palmeras broke away against the run of play and
Ronan Dunwoodie did brilliantly to bravely dive at the Palmeras Strikers
feet and holding onto the ball as he was about to shoot home. Joshua
Nandy had a good shot saved by the keeper and at the other end Ronan
Dunwoodie made another great save. Then Evan Suddick won the ball on
the half way line played an excellent pass to Leon Snowdon who ran at
the Palmeras defence and from the
by-line produced a superb cross which Josh Finlay hammered home for
an excellent goal. The first period ended 1-0. Joshua Nandy was in goal
for the second period and the Cougars again poured forward from the
start. Ronan Dunwoodie had a good shot saved at full stretch on the
line by the keeper and Leon Snowdon had a great shot towards goal which
was deflected wide by a defender for a corner. From Evan Suddick’s
corner, Ronan Dunwoodie hit another great shot which was well saved
by the keeper. At the other end Joshua Nandy made a brilliant save before
Steven Taylor hit a superb shot from the edge of the penalty area which
was saved by the over worked Palmeras keeper. The second period ended
1-0. Joseph Connor was in goal for the third period which again saw
the Cougars well on top. Ronan Dunwoodie had a great shot saved, then
Ronan won the ball beat a defender played a great through ball to Josh
Finlay who hit a great shot which hit the post and was scrambled clear.
Another superb corner from Evan Suddick fell to Josh Finlay who prodded
the ball home under pressure from defenders. At the other end Joseph
Connor made a very good save and Joshua Nandy hit a brilliant shot inches
wide. The third period ended 2-0. Evan Suddick was in goal for the fourth
period which started with Ronan Dunwoodie winning the ball from a defender
then hitting a great shot which grazed the post. Evan Suddick made a
great save, then with the Cougars camped in the Palmeras half and against
the run of play Palmeras broke away to pull a goal back. Against the
second top team who had beaten them twice this season this could have
been the signal for the Cougars to panic. This was far from the case
and the brilliant Cougars team spirit produced an instant reply. A superb
through ball from Joseph Connor saw both Josh Finlay and Ronan Dunwoodie
outpace the Palmeras defence into the box with Josh controlling the
ball and brilliantly shooting past the keeper in true strikers style
for a superb hat trick. The game ended 3-1 and was probably the Cougars
best performance of the season. The sporting Palmeras Manager commented
on how much the Cougars had improved since our previous encounters and
was impressed on how the Cougars were charged up for the game. Joseph
Connor, James Percy and Steven Taylor were magnificent in defence not
only defending well but finding time to join the attack. Leon Snowdon,
Evan Suddick and Joshua Nandy dominated midfield winning every tackle
and creating many chances. Up front Ronan Dunwoodie and Josh Finlay
were brilliant running the Palmeras defence ragged. On this performance
every player played their part and deserved to be Man of the Match.
Special mention for Josh Finlay who’s performance was awesome,
scoring a brilliant hat trick only the Cougars second hat trick of the
season. During this game the Cougars outfought and outplayed their excellent
opponents and produced their best passing moves of the season. An excellent
performance by the lads, so good no words could do this performance
justice.

WBJ Sporting 1-0 North Shields Cougars
The Cougars and WBJ Sporting did well to complete the game which was
played in atrocious weather conditions. The snow poured down throughout
the game making the pitch treacherous and both managers were concerned
and felt that the game should be abandoned as the temperature dropped
to Arctic levels, which many of the kids found unbearable. The game
itself was played in a great spirit by two totally committed teams and
it was a credit to both sets of players that the game was completed.
The first period started with Ronan Dunwoodie in goal and apart from
one great save by Ronan there were very few chances for either side.
The first period ended 0-0. Joshua Nandy was in goal for the second
period and again neither side created many chances as the two sides
gave their all in an end to end game with the conditions making it difficult
to create chances. The best chance of the period saw Joseph Connor play
a great through ball to Matthew Adamson who ran at the Sporting defence
beating two men before cutting inside and hitting an excellent shot
which the Sporting keeper dived to his left palming the ball out and
just as Josh Finlay was about to tap home the rebound a defender slid
in with a last ditch tackle to clear the ball for a corner. The second
period ended 0-0 with both managers discussing approaching the referee
to abandon the match. Joseph Connor was in goal for the third period
and apart from one great save had little to do. At the beginning of
this period the snow stopped for a few minutes. During this period of
improved weather Sporting took the lead, their goal was signal for the
heavens to open and the snow storm started again. Both sides battled
away bravely with play transferring from end to end with only a few
half chances for either side the best chance for the Cougars saw a great
shot from Ronan Dunwoodie saved by the keeper. The third period ended
0-1. The fourth period saw Evan Suddick in goal and the weather was
ridiculous with several of the kids too cold to play on. Again the sides
battled hard with the Cougars now on top chasing an equaliser, but because
of the conditions they were unable to get a break through. The game
ended 0-1. It was a credit to both teams that they managed to complete
the game as the games after this game were postponed in similar conditions.
The game was very competitive, from end to end with very few chances
for either side. All the lads Joseph Connor, James Percy, Steven Taylor,
Joshua Nandy, Josh Finlay, Evan Suddick, Ronan Dunwoodie and Matthew
Adamson gave their all in very difficult conditions. Well done lads.

North Shields Cougars 0-4 Cramlington Blue Star
The Cougars excellent four game winning run came to an end against
Cramlington Blue Star who they had previously drawn against twice earlier
in the season. The two week break came at a bad time for the Cougars
who weren’t able to recapture their recent winning form. Ronan
Dunwoodie was again in goal for the first quarter which saw Leon Snowdon
run at the Blue Star defence from midfield before hitting a good shot
which went into the side netting at the other end Ronan Dunwoodie made
a great save diving and turning the ball around the post. Then Leon
Snowdon won the ball at the edge of the box and hit an excellent shot
which the keeper did well to turn around the post for a corner. Just
as the period was coming to an end Blue Star took the lead with a good
shot from inside the area which saw Ronan Dunwoodie make an excellent
attempt to save, diving to his right he got a hand to the ball and scooped
it upwards but it just crept into the net under the bar. An evenly matched
first period ended 0-1. Steven Taylor was in goal for the second period
and the Cougars were not at their best, going behind seemed to have
affected them badly, they seemed to have got used to winning and they
were stunned to fall behind. For the first time this season their heads
appeared to drop and the famous Cougars team spirit for once deserted
them. The Cougars had very few chances during this period the best of
which saw Leon Snowdon play an excellent through ball to Ronan Dunwoodie
who beat a defender and hit a great shot which went narrowly wide, the
only other chance of this period saw Josh Finlay make an excellent run
from midfield hitting a great shot which the keeper pushed around the
post for a corner. The Cougars fell further behind during this period
and were now running out of ideas and began to look like a beaten team,
the second period ended 0-2. Joseph Connor was in goal for the third
period and Blue Star started to take command of the game scoring two
goals, one of which saw a valiant effort from Joseph Connor who dived
at the feet of the Blue Star strikers feet and getting his hands to
the ball, the ball appeared to be kicked from his hands but Joseph continued
bravely attempting to regain the ball taking a knock for his efforts,
the goal was given when a free kick to the keeper should have been given.
Joseph although injured continued to play and made an excellent save
turning a goal bound effort around the post. The third period ended
0-4. Evan Suddick was in goal for the fourth period and the Cougars
made a little bit of a spirited fight back. James Percy took a long
throw from inside his own half, Matthew Adamson headed the ball onto
Leon Snowdon who ran at the Blue Star defence and hit a great shot inches
wide. Then Matthew Adamson hit an excellent shot which the keeper turned
around the post for a corner. In the final minute Ronan Dunwoodie hit
a shot from the edge of the area which hit the crossbar but this revival
was a little late and the game ended 0-4. This was probably one of the
Cougars poorest performances of the season and a game when their excellent
team spirit deserted them. Their passing game was non existent and they
made several uncharacteristic mistakes in midfield and in defence at
crucial times which led to goals. The two week break seemed to work
against the lads and appeared to knock them out of their stride, they
looked tired and played as individuals rather than a team. Four nil
flattered their opponents who apart from the four goals had very few
other chances, the difference was that they played more as a team and
wanted to win more. If the Cougars had played to their normal excellent
standard they would have been more than a match for Blue Star, after
their superb recent run the Cougars can be forgiven one hick up and
will come back fighting. All the lads tried but just had an off day.
Special mention for Evan Suddick who chased, harassed and tackled Blue
Star throughout the game producing some excellent passes. Joseph Connor,
James Percy and Steve Taylor in defence, Ronan Dunwoodie, Evan Suddick,
Leon Snowdon and Josh Finlay in midfield and Matthew Adamson up front
all tried but could not recapture their recent excellent form. Keep
your heads up lads even Premiership players have off-days I am sure
we will bounce back next week.

North Shields Cougars 3-2 Longbenton Juniors
The Cougars continued their excellent run with their fourth successive
win, with another brilliant performance against Longbenton Juniors which
takes them to third place in the league. Ronan Dunwoodie was in goal
for the first quarter which was dominated by the Cougars who played
some superb football. Leon Snowdon hit a fantastic shot narrowly wide,
then Joseph Connor won the ball on the half way line, played an excellent
through ball to Leon Snowdon who again shot inches wide with the keeper
beaten. Ronan Dunwoodie was called upon to make a great save, while
at the other end Matthew Adamson ran towards goal hit a great shot past
the advancing keeper but his shot went into the side netting. Joseph
Connor played another superb long ball to Matthew Adamson who was about
to shoot when the keeper made a great save diving at Matthews feet.
With only Longbentons second attack of the quarter and against the run
of play the Cougars were unlucky to fall behind to a cruel deflected
own goal. This was an unlucky break for the Cougars but in typical Cougars
style they came roaring back at Longbenton. The Cougars spirit came
to the fore, they are now a team who don’t know when they are
beaten and Steven Taylor played an excellent ball to Matthew Adamson
who again shot narrowly wide. The first period ended 0-1 very much against
the run of play. Joshua Nandy was in goal for the second period and
the Cougars continued to attack at every opportunity. Leon Snowdon passed
to Josh Finlay who slipped the ball through to Matthew Adamson who hit
a great shot which was excellently saved by the keeper. Josh Finlay
then had a brilliant shot which the keeper pushed round the post for
a corner. Josh Finlay passed to Matthew Adamson who’s excellent
shot hit the post, then the Cougars got the equalising goal their superb
football deserved, Evan Suddick took an excellent corner which Matthew
Adamson hammered into the net. The second period ended 1-1. Joseph Connor
was in goal for the third period and the Cougars continued to surge
forward in great style. Leon Snowdon and Matthew Adamson had good shots
saved by the keeper before Evan Suddick hit the post. Matthew Adamson
had another shot well saved, then he had another shot which was blocked
on the line by a defender and the ball was cleared for a corner. Ronan
Dunwoodie passed to Matthew Adamson who shot inches wide, then Ronan
Dunwoodie hit a superb shot past the keeper and as it was about to cross
the line for a goal Matthew Adamson tapped it home to make sure, as
all good goal scorers would do. Just as the period was about to end
and with their only attack of the quarter Longbenton scored to equalise.
The third period end 2-2. Evan Suddick was in goal for the fourth period
and made a very good save, at the other end Josh Finlay had an excellent
shot saved by the keeper. Then came the moment of the match when Joseph
Connor surged forward from defence and as the ball came to him at the
edge of the penalty area he powered an unstoppable shot into the net
for the winning goal. Ronan Dunwoodie then won the ball in midfield
beat his man ran into the box and shot from the edge of the area his
superb shot beat the keeper, hit the inside of the post and ran along
the goal line before being cleared by a defender. The game ended 3-2.
The Cougars were superb with their never say die attitude, their performances
continue to improve with every game. The football they played was magnificent
and every player fights for the Cougars cause. The four keepers were
again magnificent, Joseph Connor was awesome in defence with great support
from Steven Taylor, Ronan Dunwoodie and Joshua Nandy who all took turns
in defence to help the team. In midfield Leon Snowdon, Ronan Dunwoodie,
Evan Suddick and Joshua Nandy chased every ball, won every tackle, passed
superbly creating some excellent chances. Up front Matthew Adamson continued
his prolific goal scoring run he is not just a predator around the box
but also creates excellent chances for his team mates. Special mention
for Josh Finlay who played his best game for the Cougars, regularly
winning the ball in midfield, making great runs from the half way line
beating several opponents and creating chances for his team mates. Also
special mention to Joseph Connor who not only dominated in defence but
also found time to score a superb winning goal, a goal he has threatened
to score for weeks. Well done again Cougars the improvement is unbelievable
a team to be proud of. Every player plays not only for the Cougars cause
but also for their team mates (one for all and all for one). Enjoy the
two weeks break lads it is well deserved.

Longbenton 0-2 North Shields Cougars
The Cougars continue to march on from strength to strength with their
third win in a row. The Cougars dominated this game against a very good
Longbenton side who were very sporting and a credit to their club. The
Cougars had Ronan Dunwoodie in goal for the first period and with their
new found confidence surged forward from the kick off. Joshua Nandy
took a corner which fell to Matthew Adamson who shot inches past the
post. Joshua Nandy had a shot which was heading towards goal blocked
by a defender and Leon Snowdon then had a shot which again went just
wide of the post. Steven Taylor won the ball, beat a man slipped an
excellent ball to Leon Snowdon who thundered the ball into the net.
The Cougars piled on the pressure and Joshua Nandy again shot wide,
Joshua then beat a defender passed to Matthew Adamson who shot just
wide. Steven Taylor went on another great run beating a defender before
hitting a superb shot which was saved by the excellent keeper. Ronan
Dunwoodie made three good saves and at the other end Matthew Adamson
went close with a great shot again saved by the keeper. Leon Snowdon
broke down the wing, running past several defenders, he crossed superbly
to Matthew Adamson who saw his brilliant shot saved by the keeper. The
first period ended 1-0. Joshua Nandy was in goal for the second period
and the Cougars continued to dominate, Matthew Adamson won the ball
and ran towards goal before unleashing a fierce shot which was saved
by the keeper. Joseph Connor played a superb long ball to Matthew Adamson
who had another shot saved by the overworked keeper. Joseph Connor then
went on a great run from defence past several defenders before hitting
a magnificent shot which was brilliantly saved, then Ronan Dunwoodie
won the ball played an excellent through ball to Matthew Adamson who
hit another great shot which again was brilliantly saved by the keeper.
The second period ended 1-0. Joseph Connor was in goal for the third
period and the Cougars continued to push forward at every opportunity.
Leon Snowdon shot just wide and then he had another shot well saved
by the keeper. Leon broke away down the right, crossed superbly to Joshua
Nandy who volleyed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to make
it 2-0. Joshua Nandy then took a brilliant corner to Ronan Dunwoodie
who had a great shot saved by the keeper. The third period ended 2-0.
The fourth period saw Leon Snowdon in goal and this period was end to
end with Leon Snowdon making two good saves and at the other end Steven
Taylor, Josh Finlay and Joshua Nandy all having shots saved. The game
ended 2-0. Joseph Connor, James Percy and Man of the Match Steven Taylor
dominated in defence and poured forward to join the attack at every
opportunity. Leon Snowdon, Ronan Dunwoodie, Josh Finlay and Joshua Nandy
conjured up some excellent passing movements in midfield, while chasing
every ball and winning almost every tackle. Each one of the team took
it in turns to show of their silky skills and had plenty of nice touches
of skill which epitomised their confidence. Up front Matthew Adamson
was superb never allowing the Longbenton defenders any time to relax,
on at least half a dozen occasions he ran from the half way line beating
several defenders and getting to the by-line and getting in crosses
for his team mates. Another great win, another two great goals. Well
done Cougars keep it up.

North Shields Cougars 3-2 North Shields Leopards
The Cougars produced another great performance during this excellent
North Shields derby game against the Leopards, both teams were a credit
to the club. The Cougars again had to contend with having to play four
different keepers throughout the game. Ronan Dunwoodie was in goal for
the first quarter, during this period the game was end to end with the
Cougars creating the best chances. First Leon Snowdon picked up the
ball on the half way line, beat three defenders and as he was about
to shoot for goal he was brought down at the edge of the box. Leon took
the free kick himself and shot narrowly past the post. Steven Taylor
then shot just past the post on two occasions, during this period Ronan
Dunwoodie was not called upon to make a save. The 1st period ended 0-0.
The second period saw Joshua Nandy in goal and again the Cougars had
the edge. The best move of the game saw Ronan Dunwoodie win the ball
on the half way line he passed to Steven Taylor who moved it onto Evan
Suddick back to Ronan Dunwoodie who played a superb through ball to
Steven Taylor who thundered a shot inches past the post. Ronan Dunwoodie
then picked up the ball on the half way line charged towards goal and
just as he was about to shoot Tyler Walton bravely dived at his feet
to prevent a goal. Minutes later Ronan Dunwoodie chased a long ball
into the penalty area and hit a superb shot which had the brilliant
Tyler Walton diving full length to tip the shot around the post. The
Leopards took the lead when Joshua Nandy made a great save only for
the rebound to fall to Evan Ward who hammered it into the net. The second
period ended 0-1. Evan Suddick was in goal for the third period and
the Cougars were very unlucky to be a goal down and they didn’t
let their heads go down, once again we saw the tremendous Cougars team
spirit as they roared back in great style. Joshua Nandy lobbed an excellent
ball into the Leopards area and Matthew Adamson hit a brilliant shot
which was superbly saved by Tyler Walton. Leon Snowdon was then brought
down on the left edge of the penalty area, Leon picked himself up and
rocketed a superb unstoppable free kick into the top right hand corner
of the net for one of the best goals of the season (David Beckham would
have been proud of that one). Then Matthew Adamson had an excellent
shot which went inches wide of the post. Leon Snowdon took a quick throw
in to Joshua Nandy who surged forward from midfield into the box, he
raced towards goal and as the brave Tyler Walton dived at his feet Joshua
squeezed the ball under Tyler’s body and into the net for the
Cougars second goal (just like watching Steven Gerrard). The Cougars
were now in full flow and Leon Snowdon had another shot saved by Tyler
Walton. Then Matthew Adamson won the ball on the by-line beat a defender,
crossed to Ronan Dunwoodie who hammered the ball into the net for the
Cougars third goal (reminiscent of Ronaldo to Rooney). The third period
ended 3-1. Joseph Connor was in goal for the fourth period and the Leopards
had their best period of the game in this quarter with their Man of
the Match Tyler Walton playing up front. Joseph Connor made two good
saves but was helpless to prevent a good goal from Tyler Walton with
two minutes to go. The game ended 3-2. The Cougars continue to improve
with every game, they no longer just depend on their magnificent team
spirit, they have turned into a very good passing side and the results
are starting to come. They are now getting the results they deserved
but never got earlier in the season. The four keepers were magnificent,
Joseph Connor and James Percy were rock solid in defence with great
support from Steven Taylor. In the midfield Leon Snowdon, Ronan Dunwoodie,
Evan Suddick and Joshua Nandy chased every ball creating some excellent
chances and up front Matthew Adamson worked the Leopards defenders very
hard. As mentioned in previous match reports the Cougars never score
easy goals everyones a gem. Well done Cougars a team to be proud of.

Guidepost Juniors 0-6 North Shields Cougars
After last weeks magnificent performance the Cougars produced an even
better performance against Guidepost Juniors. The Cougars continue to
improve and this was definitely their best performance of the season
when they finally got the rewards their football has deserved in recent
weeks. Ronan Dunwoodie was again in goal for the first period and there
was very little to choose between two totally committed and enthusiastic
teams. The Cougars took an early lead with a superb goal from Evan Suddick,
a corner was cleared to Evan just outside the left hand corner of the
penalty area, he controlled the ball and curled a superb shot past several
defenders and the keeper from outside the box into the keepers left
hand corner for his second goal of the season. Matthew Adamson went
on a great run past two defenders but as he was about to shoot the keeper
made a good save, diving at his feet. At the other end Ronan Dunwoodie
made two great saves, the second of which saw the ball heading for the
bottom right hand corner of his goal, Ronan dived fully stretched and
pushed the ball around the post for a corner just as it was about to
cross the line. The first period ended 1-0. The second period saw Joshua
Nandy in goal and again it was a fiercely contested battle in midfield
with few clear cut chances but some superb passing football from the
Cougars. Josh Finlay played a superb through ball to Matthew Adamson
who ran at the defence but again the keeper made a fine save at his
feet before he could shoot towards goal. A long kick from Joshua Nandy
saw an excellent header from Evan Suddick which played Matthew Adamson
through but his great shot went narrowly wide. The second period ended
1-0. Joseph Connor was in goal for the third period and during this
period the Cougars stepped up a gear to dominate the game playing some
superb flowing football with some great passing movements The best move
of the game saw Evan Suddick play the ball up the line to Ronan Dunwoodie
who cut inside squared the ball to Josh Finlay who played a one –
two returning the ball to Ronan who slipped the ball through to Joshua
Nandy who hit an excellent shot which was saved by the keeper. Joseph
Connor was called upon to make two great saves one of which was a brave
dive at the feet of the Guidepost striker. The Cougars increased their
lead when Joshua Nandy had a great shot saved by the keeper and the
rebound fell to Matthew Adamson who shot past the keeper for his ninth
goal of the season. The roles were reversed minutes later when Matthew
Adamson picked the ball up on the half way line and charged towards
goal he hit a superb shot which was excellently saved by the keeper
but Joshua Nandy forced the rebound over the line whilst being challenged
by several defenders. The third period ended 3-0. Evan Suddick was in
goal for the fourth period and the Cougars were now in full flow it
was just like watching Brazil. They created chance after chance and
produced some fine moves from one end of the pitch to the other. Joshua
Nandy passed a superb ball to Ronan Dunwoodie with his back to goal
Ronan turned and beat his man in one movement and ran towards goal shooting
past the advancing keeper for his seventh goal of the season. The Cougars
were now virtually unstoppable with Joseph Connor playing a magnificent
long ball to Joshua Nandy who played the ball through to Ronan Dunwoodie
who shot inches past the post. Then Joshua Nandy won the ball at the
edge of the box squeezed past several defenders and shot past the keeper
for his second goal of the game and his third of the season. A minute
later Joshua Nandy again picked up the ball in almost the same position
at the edge of the box and hit a similar shot which was saved by the
keeper and Josh Finlay forced the ball over the line for his second
goal of the season. The game ended 6-0 and the Cougars and their parents
erupted into wild celebrations. The four keepers were excellent all
keeping clean sheets, Joseph Connor and James Percy were both excellent
while dominating in defence, they even had time to surge forward with
the attack on many occasions. Leon Snowdon, Josh Finlay, Joshua Nandy
and Evan Suddick were all superb winning almost every ball in midfield
and producing some stunning passing movements along with Ronan Dunwoodie
who was brilliant playing in four different positions one in each quarter
in goal, defence, midfield and upfront and Matthew Adamson was fantastic
upfront chasing every ball and wreaking havoc in the Guidepost defence,
scoring another excellent goal. Leon Snowdon who again played despite
being ill and probably should not have played was tremendous. Special
mention to Evan Suddick who played his best game for the Cougars he
was equally awesome in defence as he was in midfield and also kept a
clean sheet in goal. This performance eclipsed last weeks great performance,
the team were superb and their passing and movement was out of this
world. The Cougars are going from strength to strength and are eagerly
looking forward to next weeks derby against the Leopards.

CJ Palmeras 5-2 North Shields Cougars
The Cougars were magnificent against 2nd top of the league CJ Palmeras.
This was probably their best performance of the season and they were
very unlucky to lose in an excellent end to end game between two evenly
matched competitive teams which could have went either way.
Ronan Dunwoodie was in goal for the first period and he made a very
good save early in the game at the other end Matthew Adamson made an
excellent run and was thwarted by a great save from the keeper who dived
at his feet to make an excellent save as he was about to shoot. There
were few chances in this period as the two sides produced an excellent
battle in midfield and both defences stood firm under great pressure,
during this period James Percy and Joseph Connor were dominant in defence.
The period was end to end and against the run of play Palmeras took
the lead. The Cougars were level within minutes with the best move of
the game James Percy took a throw in deep in his own half, Evan Suddick
headed the ball onto Matthew Adamson who picked the ball up just inside
the oppositions half he raced towards goal chased by several defenders
and shot past the keeper for an excellent goal. The first period ended
1-1
For the 2nd period Joshua Nandy was in goal and the Cougars were well
on top Ronan Dunwoodie picked up the ball on the half way line ran at
the defence he passed the ball to Steven Taylor who hit an excellent
shot which was well saved by the keeper. Josh Finlay took an excellent
corner which caused panic in the Palmeras defence, the ball was scrambled
clear before it could cross the goal line. Then Steven Taylor played
a great ball to Ronan Dunwoodie and his good shot was saved by the keeper
who turned it round the post for a corner. The Cougars should have had
a penalty when Ronan Dunwoodie beat two men charged into the box and
was brought down just as he was about to shoot the referee waved play
on at the other end Joshua Nandy made two very good saves. Against the
run of play and with the last kick of the period Palmeras regained the
lead which was very unlucky for the Cougars who didn’t even have
time to kick off again before the referee blew the whistle for the end
of the period. The second period ended 1-2. Joseph Connor was in goal
for the 3rd period and again the Cougars more than matched their opponents
in an excellent midfield battle where Leon Snowdon covered every inch
of the pitch. Leon had a great shot saved by the keeper and Joshua Nandy
shot inches past the post. Ronan Dunwoodie won the ball played a great
ball to Leon Snowdon who had an excellent shot saved by the keeper,
Matthew Adamson had another good shot saved by the over worked keeper.
The Cougars deservedly equalised when Ronan Dunwoodie won a tackle on
the half way line ran towards goal beating two men and as the defenders
chased him he held them off and shot past the advancing keeper for another
brilliant Cougars goal. At the other end Joseph Connor made two brilliant
saves, then against the run of play Palmeras took the lead, just like
the second period it was scored with the last kick of the period and
just like the second period the Cougars did not even have time to kick
off before the referee blew his whistle for the end of the period. The
period ended 2-3. The 4th period saw Evan Suddick in goal and again
the Cougars surged forward chasing the equaliser their performance deserved.
Leon Snowdon had a shot just past he post and Ronan Dunwoodie had another
good shot saved, then Leon beat two men raced towards goal but his excellent
shot was blocked. Leon Snowdon took a superb free kick from outside
the penalty area which went inches past the post with the keeper well
beaten. The Cougars piled forward in pursuit of an equaliser and were
unlucky to concede two goals on the break away in the last three minutes
which were Palmeras only chances during this period. This meant that
the score line was not a true reflection of the game. The game ended
2-5. The Cougars were superb every one a hero, everyone committed to
the cause. The spirit was magnificent the work rate and passing exceptional
this was definitely a game they did not deserve to lose. But for the
two very late goals in the second and third quarter the Cougars may
have went on to win the game as they only conceded the last two goals
in the final period as they were chasing the equaliser their play deserved.
Palmeras who are second top of the league played their part in an excellent
game of football both for the kids who played and the parents who watched.
The biggest compliment came from the sporting Palmeras manager who on
several occasions said how much the Cougars had improved since the teams
had last met and at the end when he said the game could have went either
way. If the Cougars can play like this every week they will win more
games than they lose. The Cougars never score a simple goal every goal
this season has either been a brilliant team move or an exceptional
piece of individual skill no tap ins for the Cougars. The excellent
pairing of Joseph Connor and James Percy were again dominant in defence,
Joshua Nandy, Leon Snowdon, Josh Finlay, Steven Taylor and Evan Suddick
were all superb and competed brilliantly in midfield against an excellent
side and upfront Matthew Adamson and Ronan Dunwoodie were awesome creating
many chances and scoring their usual great goals. The spirit and commitment
was typified by Leon Snowdon who despite being ill and probably should
not have played was tremendous and totally dominated the midfield with
his colleagues. On any other day this would have been a win, keep it
up lads. Brilliant, Superb, Excellent well done Cougars a team to be
proud of.

North Shields Cougars 0-1 WBJ Sporting
The Cougars were not at their best during this game against WBJ Sporting,
it was a game they should have won but they did not show their usual
team spirit and commitment. The game was spoilt by a very strong wind
which made it difficult for the teams to play their best football. Yet
again the Cougars were without a goal keeper Ronan Dunwoodie was in
goal for the first quarter in which the Cougars totally dominated, Ronan
only had one shot to save but at the other end Leon Snowdon ran from
half way beat two men and hit an excellent shot which was saved by the
keeper, the rebound fell to Joshua Nandy who shot just wide. Matthew
Adamson charged towards goal but just as he was going to shoot the keeper
made a tremendous save at his feet. The Cougars best move of the game
came when Joseph Connor played a superb ball to Joshua Nandy he controlled
it threaded an excellent through ball to Matthew Adamson but his good
shot was blocked by a defender. Evan Suddick had another shot from the
edge of the box which was goal bound but again was blocked by a defender.
The quarter ended 0-0. The second quarter saw Joshua Nandy in goal and
the Cougars were under a lot of pressure. Joshua Nandy made a great
save, at the other end Ronan Dunwoodie beat his marker at the edge of
the box ran towards goal and hit a great shot which was saved by the
keeper. The only goal of the game was a little unlucky for the Cougars,
Joshua Nandy made an excellent save only to see the rebound thundered
back into the net whilst he was still on the ground. The Cougars came
roaring back and Ronan Dunwoodie picked up the ball outside the box
beat two men cut inside and just as he was about to shoot he was brought
down and the ref awarded a penalty. After treatment Ronan Dunwoodie
stepped up and hit a good shot which the keeper did well to dive to
his right and make a brilliant save. The quarter ended 0-1. Joseph Connor
was in goal for the third quarter which was end to end but with few
chances for either side. Matthew Adamson had a great shot saved while
Joseph Connor made two brilliant saves for the Cougars. The quarter
ended 0-1. The final quarter saw Evan Suddick in goal and again the
game was end to end with very few chances because of the tough midfield
battle. The Cougars only real chance of the quarter saw Ronan Dunwoodie
beat two men and run towards goal he hit a shot which was saved by the
keeper, at the other end Evan Suddick only had one shot to save. The
game ended 0-1. If the Cougars had played to their usual standard they
could have won this match, unfortunately although they worked hard too
many of the team did not produce their normal performances. Leon Snowdon,
Evan Suddick, Joshua Nandy, Ronan Dunwoodie, Steven Taylor, Josh Finlay
and Matthew Adamson all tried hard without much success. Special mention
to the two defenders James Percy and Joseph Connor who were superb throughout
the game and remained solid at the heart of the defence.

Cramlington Blue Star 2-2 North Shields Cougars
The Cougars were down to the bare seven players and again had no goal
keeper against Cramlington Blue Star. The Cougars produced another great
performance and again were unlucky not to win a game in which they were
on top for most of the time. The strong wind made the game very difficult
but both sides were totally committed and were a credit to their clubs.
Ronan Dunwoodie was in goal for the first quarter and the Cougars had
to play against a very strong wind which made it difficult for them
to do much attacking. Blue Star had the advantage in this period but
the Cougars brilliant defending particularly from Joseph Connor and
James Percy restricted Blue Stars chances. Ronan Dunwoodie made two
good saves, before Blue Star were given a penalty. The penalty hit the
bar and was cleared to safety, Blue Star then scored a scrambled goal
to take the lead. Within two minutes the Cougars were level, against
the strong wind Matthew Adamson picked up the ball on the half way line
beat two men and hit an excellent shot past the goal keeper. The quarter
ended 1-1. Joseph Connor was in goal for the second quarter, this quarter
saw the Cougars have the advantage of the wind behind them and they
constantly bombarded the Blue Star goal. Leon Snowdon had a good shot
blocked and Ronan Dunwoodie had another good shot well saved by the
keeper. Matthew Adamson went on another great run past several defenders
and just as he was about to shoot he was crowded out and the ball was
cleared for a corner, from the corner Steven Taylor had a great shot
which was blocked on the line. Leon Snowdon had two more shots which
were blocked and James Percy shot narrowly wide, at the other end James
Percy cleared well under pressure and Joseph Connor made three great
saves in goal. The Cougars dominated the quarter but could not get the
break through their play deserved, the quarter ended 1-1. The third
quarter saw Evan Suddick in goal the Cougars were again playing against
the wind. Evan made a good save, whilst at the other end Steven Taylor
again shot narrowly wide. The best move of the game saw the Cougars
deservedly take the lead Matthew Adamson picked up the ball on the half
way line and played two excellent one-two’s with Ronan Dunwoodie
before running on towards the goal keeper and shooting into the net
for a brilliant goal and his second of the game. Matthew and Ronan played
a similar one-two before the quarter ended but on this occasion the
keeper made a good save. In the last minute of the quarter the Cougars
were caught out by the strong wind and conceded an unfortunate equaliser.
The quarter ended 2-2. Steven Taylor was in goal for the final quarter,
the Cougars had the wind advantage in their favour and again pounded
the Blue Star goal. Ronan Dunwoodie had a shot narrowly wide, while
Evan Suddick had a shot which was heading for goal deflected for a corner.
Ronan Dunwoodie then beat two men and shot narrowly wide before Leon
Snowdon shot from the edge of the box again narrowly wide. Blue Star
did not have a shot in this final quarter and the Cougars continued
to pour forward, Ronan Dunwoodie had a shot cleared of the line and
Matthew Adamson had another shot narrowly wide. The game ended 2-2.
This was a great game played by two fully committed sides, the wind
meant that for two quarters of the game each team had the advantage
of the wind while for the other two quarters they each had to defend
against the strong wind. The Cougars adapted better to the conditions
and during the periods they attacked against the wind they amazingly
created many chances and scored two goals, whilst there strong defence
were solid at the back. When the Cougars had the advantage of the wind
Blue Star rarely crossed the half way line allowing the defenders James
Percy and Joseph Connor to surge forward with the rest of the team.
The Cougars were unlucky not to win and if they had been able to hold
out one more minute against the wind in the third quarter they would
have won the game as Blue Star did not mount one attack in the final
quarter. This was a great performance by the Cougars everyone was a
hero, Joseph Connor and James Percy were superb in defence and even
found time to attack in the final quarter. Leon Snowdon, Ronan Dunwoodie,
Evan Suddick and Steven Taylor dominated the midfield and Matthew Adamson
was again outstanding up front. It was very difficult to choose a man
of the match as they were all superb but Matthew Adamson’s two
excellent goals gave him a slight edge. A tremendous performance from
the Cougars and they were unlucky not to win the game. Well done Cougars.

North Shields Cougars 1-3 Ashington
The Cougars were unlucky to lose in an excellent game against Ashington
in the first game of the Bundesliga season. The Cougars again had no
goal keeper and relied on the same four volunteer goal keepers Joshua
Nandy, Ronan Dunwoodie, Joseph Connor and Evan Suddick. Joshua Nandy
started in goal for the first quarter, the game was end to end with
both sides giving their all, Leon Snowdon had a shot which was saved
by the keeper while Joshua Nandy saved well for the Cougars. Ashington
took the lead which lasted only a couple of minutes before the best
move of the game resulted in the Cougars equalising with one of their
best goals of the season, James Percy won the ball deep in his own half,
he played an excellent long ball to Matthew Adamson who controlled the
ball and ran towards goal as the defenders converged on him he played
an excellent slide rule through ball to Leon Snowdon who ran towards
goal chased by several defenders, Leon stayed calm and hammered the
ball into the net. The quarter ended 1-1. Ronan Dunwoodie was in goal
for the second quarter and the game continued to be played with a great
spirit by two evenly matched sides. Ronan Dunwoodie made three saves
while the best chance for the Cougars fell to Matthew Adamson, he received
a through ball outside the penalty area and charged towards goal he
hit an excellent shot which was saved by the keeper. Just as the quarter
was coming to an end Ashington broke away and grabbed a second goal
against the run of play. The quarter ended 1-2. The third quarter saw
Joseph Connor in goal Joshua Nandy had a great shot saved by the keeper
while Joseph Connor made three excellent saves for the Cougars. The
game was flowing from end to end and Joshua Nandy had another good shot
blocked before the defence scrambled the ball away, Ronan Dunwoodie
beat a defender ran towards goal but shot narrowly wide. The quarter
ended 1-2. The fourth quarter saw Evan Suddick in goal and the game
followed the same pattern see sawing from one end to another Ronan Dunwoodie
ran through past the last man but his shot was well saved by the keeper.
Matthew Adamson played another excellent through ball this time to Ronan
Dunwoodie he hit a good shot which was blocked by a defender and scrambled
away. Matthew Adamson had another excellent shot saved by the keeper.
During this period the Cougars piled on the pressure chasing the equaliser
they and the crowd new they deserved, but with every one piling forward
they were caught on the break and conceded a third. The Cougars had
five corners in this quarter and with seconds left Ronan Dunwoodie went
down in the penalty area under a heavy tackle just as he was about to
shoot with the Cougars crowd believing they should have had a penalty.
The game ended 1-3. This game was a great advertisement for Under 8
football, both sides were fully committed with excellent goal mouth
chances at both ends, and very competitive battle in the midfield area.
The Cougars were unlucky to lose and deserved at least a draw. Every
player had a superb game and played their part. James Percy was excellent
in defence, Evan Suddick won some excellent 50/50 balls in midfield
, Leon Snowdon was involved in every Cougars move scoring a fantastic
goal and Steven Taylor gets better with every game his strong running
and passing give the Cougars midfield more options. Up front Ronan Dunwoodie
and Matthew Adamson caused problems for the Ashington defence throughout
the game while also taking turns to play in midfield. If only the Cougars
could reproduce the type of passing which resulted in their goal they
would be sure to score lots more goals. They create lots of chances
in every game but cannot find that final ball from midfield to release
their two strikers who are often in yards of space. Special mention
for the Managers Man of the Match Joseph Connor, he was a giant in defence,
superb in goal and even found time to join the attack causing panic
in the Ashington defence when he came forward.

Cramlington Blue Star 2-2 North Shields Cougars
The Cougars produced one of their best performances of the season against
Cramlington Blue Star coming back from 0-2 down to draw 2-2. Ryan Scorfield
returned in goal after missing the last three games but Evan Suddick
was missing. The game was end to end in the first quarter with the Cougars
slightly on top. Joshua Nandy had an excellent shot saved by the goal
keeper, before Leon Snowdon went on a great run he passed to Matthew
Adamson who had a brilliant shot saved by the keeper. Ryan Scorfield
made three good saves and Joshua Nandy made an excellent last ditch
tackle to prevent Blue Star scoring. Joseph Connor played a great through
ball to Joshua Nandy who beat his marker and passed to Matthew Adamson
who shot narrowly wide. The quarter ended 0-0. The second quarter was
again end to end with few chances due to a magnificent battle in midfield
and some great defending by both sides. Ryan Scorfield made two good
saves, at the other end Ronan Dunwoodie received a great through ball
ran towards goal and shot past the keeper, unfortunately there was not
enough pace on the ball and a defender cleared before it could cross
the line. Leon Snowdon played a superb through ball to Ronan Dunwoodie
who ran at goal, he collided with the goal keeper and the ball bounced
free, but the Cougars could not take advantage and a defender cleared
with the keeper down and out of the game. Blue Star broke away and scored
a goal against the run of play. The quarter ended 0-1. The third quarter
was again end to end with Blue Star slightly on top and they took a
0-2 lead. The Cougars came roaring back, Josh Finlay had a great run
from midfield and shot just wide, Ronan Dunwoodie won the ball from
a defender and ran towards goal before shooting wide and Leon Snowdon
had an excellent shot saved by the keeper. Then Matthew Adamson scored
a superb solo goal, he received the ball outside the penalty area ran
towards goal remained calm and powered the ball past the keeper and
into the net. The quarter ended 1-2. The Cougars were in total control
in the fourth quarter winning every challenge in every area of the pitch
roared on by the crowd. Joshua Nandy took a quick corner to Matthew
Adamson who had a great shot saved by the keeper. Matthew Adamson ran
at the defence and had another shot well saved by the keeper. Ronan
Dunwoodie beat two men and produced an excellent through ball to Matthew
Adamson who again saw his shot saved by the excellent Blue Star keeper.
The game now seemed to be between the Cougars and the Blue Star keeper,
but Ryan Scorfield still had to make two good saves at the other end
Ronan Dunwoodie played another through ball to Matthew Adamson who rounded
the keeper to score another magnificent goal to make it 2-2. Then Ronan
Dunwoodie broke clear from midfield and leaving the defenders behind
he entered the penalty area with only the keeper to beat just as he
was about to shoot the referee blew his whistle for full time. The game
ended 2-2. There were great performances from all of the team Ryan Scorfield
made some good saves in goal, Joseph Connor and James Percy were excellent
in defence, Steven Taylor, Joshua Nandy and Josh Finlay were superb
in midfield battling for the cause. Ronan Dunwoodie had a great game
in defence, midfield and upfront playing wherever he was needed and
Matthew Adamson was brilliant upfront scoring two tremendous goals.
Special mention for Leon Snowdon who covered every inch of the pitch,
making excellent runs and winning important tackles, he epitomised the
Cougars team spirit. The Cougars started the season with a similar performance
against Guide Post coming back from 0-2 to draw 2-2, and have ended
this first stage of the season on a high. This was a great game played
by two totally committed sides which with a bit of luck the Cougars
could and should have won they were often thwarted by the excellent

spirit and made their parents on the touch line very proud well done

without a goalkeeper and had to rely on four volunteers to play in goal.
The first quarter saw Ronan Dunwoodie in goal and was end to end with
most of the action in midfield and few chances for either side. Ronan
Dunwoodie made two good saves but could not prevent Walker scoring two
goals in the last couple of minutes of the quarter which was totally
against the run of play. The quarter ended 0-2. The 2nd quarter saw
Joseph Connor in goal and again most of the play was in the midfield
area and there were very few chances for either side mainly because
of some excellent defending from both defences and three excellent saves
by Joseph Connor. The quarter ended 0-2. Joshua Nandy went in goal for
the third quarter. During this quarter the Cougars had their worst five
minutes of the game during which they conceded three goals to make the
score at 0-5. The Cougars roared back with Matthew Adamson receiving
a great through ball taking an excellent shot which the keeper saved,
Matthew picked up the rebound rounded the keeper and fired the ball
into the net. Then Ronan Dunwoodie beat two men ran towards goal and
shot just wide, at the other end Joshua Nandy made two great saves.
The quarter ended 1-5. Evan Suddick was in goal for the fourth quarter
and the Cougars poured forward from the kick off
dominating the quarter from the start to the end. Josh Nandy had a great
run at the defence and shot just wide. Ronan Dunwoodie out paced a defender
and had a good shot that the keeper pushed around the post. Matthew
Adamson had another superb shot saved by the keeper and Joshua Nandy
again shot inches wide. In the last minute the ball came to Ronan Dunwoodie
at the edge of the area he rocketed a shot towards goal which went fractionally
over the bar with the goal keeper well beaten. Walker scored a late
goal on the break against the run of play with their only chance of
the quarter. The game ended 1-6. The Cougars put in a brave performance
and the score line flattered their opponents. Apart from a bad five
minute spell in the third quarter the Cougars more than matched their
opponents. The team spirit was again excellent, James Percy and Joseph
Connor were again superb in defence, Leon Snowdon, Josh Finlay, Josh
Nandy, Evan Suddick and Steven Taylor fought brilliantly and more than
held their own in an excellent midfield battle. Ronan Dunwoodie and
Matthew Adamson caused many problems for the Walker defence while also
helping out in midfield. Special mention for the four volunteer goal
keepers Ronan Dunwoodie, Joseph Connor, Joshua Nandy and Evan Suddick.

North Shields Cougars 0-5 CJ Palmeras
The Cougars were again without a Goal Keeper for the game against CJ
Palmeras and had to use 4 volunteer keepers, new signing Steven Taylor
also made his debut. The 1st period saw Ronan Dunwoodie in goal. The
Cougars were an equal match for their opponents in an end to end period.
Matthew Adamson had a shot blocked on the line, Ronan Dunwoodie made
two good saves before Matthew Adamson had another good shot which went
narrowly past the post. In the last minute of the quarter the Cougars
conceded an excellent goal but which was totally against the run of
play. The period ended 0-1. The second period saw Joseph Connor in goal
and he made three excellent saves, the best chance for the Cougars was
a long run from Ronan Dunwoodie but his shot went past the post. The
period ended 0-2. Joshua Nandy went in goal for the third period and
made two fine saves with the best opportunity falling to Evan Suddick
who shot just past the post from distance. The period ended 0-4. The
fourth period was again end to end with Leon Snowdon in goal making
a couple of very good saves. The game ended 0-5. This was a game the
Cougars could have won but for once their fighting spirit seemed to
desert them, the score line flattered their opponents as there was very
little to choose between two very similar sides. If the Cougars had
played with their normal team spirit they may have won the game. Special
mention for Joseph Connor who was superb in defence. Again a big thank
you to the five volunteer goal keepers Ronan Dunwoodie, Joseph Connor,
Joshua Nandy, Leon Snowdon and Evan Suddick. Steven Taylor did well
on his first game, Matthew Adamson, James Percy and Josh Finlay also
played their part.

North Shields Cougars 0-11 WBBC Blues
The Cougars were again without a Goal Keeper for the game against 3rd
top of the League WBBC Blues and had to use 4 volunteer keepers. The
1st period saw Ronan Dunwoodie in goal. The Cougars were 0-3 down in
the first two minutes despite Ronan Dunwoodie making two very good saves
keeping the score down to 0-3. The best move of the quarter for the
Cougars saw Josh Finlay go on a great run past several defenders he
passed to Josh Nandy who squared to Matthew Adamson who shot narrowly
wide. Josh Finlay went on another long run from his own half and passed
to Leon Snowdon whose shot went narrowly wide. The period ended 0-3.
The second period Josh Nandy went in goal. Leon Snowdon produced a great
run and shot saved by the goal keeper. Josh Finlay had a shot which
was blocked and scrambled away for a corner. Ronan Dunwoodie won the
ball outside the penalty area and ran at the Blues defence he hit an
excellent shot which was pushed around the post at full stretch by the
keeper. Josh Nandy made three excellent saves but could not prevent
the period ending 0-6. Joseph Connor was in goal for the third period
.Joshua Nandy had a brilliant shot blocked on the line and Josh Finlay
had another good effort saved by the goal keeper. At the other end Joseph
Connor made four excellent saves. The period ended 0-9. The fourth period
saw Leon Snowdon in goal and he made 2 two superb saves. The best two
chances for the Cougars fell to Matthew Adamson and Ronan Dunwoodie
who both had good shots saved by the keeper. The game ended 0-11. Special
mention for the four volunteer goal keepers Ronan Dunwoodie, Joshua
Nandy, Joseph Connor and Leon Snowdon who all made excellent saves and
have volunteered to help the team every time there has been a goal keeper
crisis, also special mention for Evan Suddick who has also volunteered
to play in goal on each occasion. Considering the Blues were third top
and the Cougars did not have a goal keeper it was credit to them that
they never gave up and kept the score line respectable as the Blues
had won 25-0 the previous week. James Percy was commanding in defence
with Joseph Connor. Josh Finlay had his best game for the team making
many excellent runs using his pace and skill to cause problems for the
Blues. Josh Nandy, Evan Suddick and Leon Snowdon fought hard in midfield
against an excellent team. Matthew Adamson and Ronan Dunwoodie battled
away up front against a defence which does not give many goals away.

Blyth Deportivo 4-0 North Shields Cougars
Another good performance by the Cougars with the score line not a true
reflection of the game. The game was very competitive and end to end
for long periods, the difference was two superb finishes from Deportivo
for the first and fourth goals with an unlucky own goal for the second.
Ryan Scorfield returned in goal after illness and had a superb game.
The best moments of the first period were an excellent run from Leon
Snowdon who ran from the half way line he went past several players
and into the box before the ball was scrambled away for a corner. At
the other end Ryan Scorfield was called upon to make a very good save.
The Cougars came back again Leon Snowdon beat three men passed to Josh
Finlay whose shot was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper. Just as the
period was coming to an end Deportivo scored with an unstoppable shot
from just outside the penalty area which flew into the top corner of
the net. The period ended 0-1. The second period was again end to end,
Josh Finlay made a tremendous run fed the ball to Ronan Dunwoodie who
charged towards goal but a last ditch tackle forced the ball out for
a corner. Josh Finlay had another excellent run and again passed to
Ronan Dunwoodie who ran at the defence and shot narrowly wide. At the
other end Ryan Scorfield made two very good saves, one of which was
heading for the top corner, Ryan dived stretched his arm and pushed
the shot onto the post and the ball bounced clear. The Cougars had no
luck when a cross cannoned of a defender and went past the unlucky Ryan
Scorfield. The period ended 0-2.
The 3rd period was very similar with Leon Snowdon and Joshua Finlay
continuing to surge forward at every opportunity. Evan Suddick had a
shot from distance which was blocked and Ryan Scorfield made several
more good saves. The period ended 0-3. The fourth period saw the Cougars
continue to hold their own and they never let their heads drop. Leon
Snowdon had another shot well saved, Leon then went on another great
run, he played a great ball to Ronan Dunwoodie who shot narrowly wide.
Ryan Scorfield was again called upon to make an excellent save. Deportivo
scored an excellent fourth goal when a brilliant cross was headed in
to the net with great power. The game ended 0-4.
The Cougars had played their part in a very competitive game, played
by two teams of similar standards. The score line flattered their opponents
but two moments of class from Deportivo won the game. Ryan Scorfield
on his return from illness was excellent and his save onto the bar was
superb. Joseph Connor and James Percy dominated the defence and made
some timely tackles and provided several long balls to their team mates
which caused problems for the Deportivo defence. Evan Suddick Joshua
Nandy and Matthew Adamson worked hard all game producing moments of
skill and winning important tackles. Josh Finlay continues to make exceptional
runs which cause problems for opposing defences. Up front Ronan Dunwoodie
had several chances and fought hard, he was ill before the game and
possibly should not have started but did not want to let his team mates
down. Special mention for Leon Snowdon who covered every blade of grass,
tackling everything that moved. His will to win epitomised the Cougars
spirit. If the Cougars continue to play like they did today when the
league splits in January they will win more games than they lose. Well
done lads.

Tynemouth Utd 1-7 North Shields Cougars
Goal Scorers
Ronan Dunwoodie 4 Matthew Adamson 1 Josh Finlay 1 Joshua Nandy 1
The Cougars played their best football of the season while winning
7-1 against Tynemouth United in a very competitive game.
The Cougars were again without a Goal keeper due to an illness to Ryan
Scorfield and needed four volunteer Goal keepers during the game.
The 1st period started with Joshua Nandy in goal, the period was very
competitive with the Cougars having most of the chances. During this
period Leon Snowdon bossed the midfield, Josh Finlay was causing problems
for the Tynemouth defence and Joseph Connor and James Percy were solid
in defence. The best chances fell to Matthew Adamson who had an excellent
shot saved by the goal keeper and three shots from Ronan Dunwoodie which
were also well saved by the excellent goal keeper. The period ended
0-0. The second period saw Ronan Dunwoodie in goal, Tynemouth dominated
the first five minutes and took the lead with a very good goal. This
spurred the Cougars on and their tremendous team spirit saw them come
thundering back into the game. Leon Snowdon had a tremendous run and
shot which the goal keeper saved, Matthew Adamson picked up the rebound
and hammered an excellent shot into the net to equalise. Leon Snowdon
then beat three defenders and hit a brilliant shot which was saved by
the goal keeper. The period ended 1-1. Joseph Connor was in goal for
the 3rd period with Joshua Nandy and Leon Snowdon dropping back to help
the defence. This was the Cougars best quarter of the season when they
played some sensational football and at last got the rewards they have
been denied but deserved for many of the previous games this season.
Joshua Nandy and Leon Snowdon both had excellent shots saved by the
goal keeper. Leon Snowdon had an excellent free kick from distance which
narrowly went wide and Ronan Dunwoodie beat two men passed to Joshua
Nandy whose shot was well saved. The turning point in the game was an
excellent move with a great run from Matthew Adamson who beat two men
passed to Ronan Dunwoodie on the by-line he squared the ball to Josh
Finlay who thundered the ball into the net. The next move saw Ronan
Dunwoodie run past and out muscle a defender and take the ball around
the goal keeper and slot it into the net. This was a signal for the
parents and the team to go wild as the whole team started to pour forward
with every attack. Ronan Dunwoodie received an excellent through ball
outpaced two defenders and shot passed the oncoming goal keeper 4-1
unbelievable. The next two goals were very similar to the fourth goal
Ronan Dunwoodie running at the defence and winning the dual before shooting
into the net scoring two excellent goals to bring his tally to four
for the game. The period ended 6-1 to the Cougars. Out of this world.
The fourth period saw Leon Snowdon get a well deserved rest in goal
after his continuous running throughout the game. The Cougars continued
to dominate with Evan Suddick having an excellent shot from a great
distance narrowly wide. Joshua Nandy had two great runs past several
defenders which caused panic in the Tynemouth defence before being scrambled
away for corners. Joseph Connor played an excellent through ball from
his own half to Ronan Dunwoodie who ran on and shot which was again
saved by the goal keeper. There were further shots from Evan Suddick,
Matthew Adamson, Josh Nandy and Ronan Dunwoodie which were all saved
by the goal keeper. Then Ronan Dunwoodie persevered and dispossessed
a defender passed to Matthew Adamson whose shot was saved by the outstanding
goal keeper, Joshua Nandy picked up the rebound, rounded the goal keeper
and tucked the ball away. 7-1 seventh heaven and the crowd were going
wild. The game ended 7-1 the Cougars were superb and Tynemouth put up
an excellent fight. The Cougars finally got the result they have waited
for and deserved all season. A special mention for the four goal keepers
Joshua Nandy, Ronan Dunwoodie, Joseph Connor and Leon Snowdon. Joseph
Connor and James Percy were magnificent in defence and found time to
join the attack on many occasions. Leon Snowdon dominated the midfield
with his tremendous running power. Josh Finlay and Matthew Adamson made
many great runs in midfield supplying some excellent passes. Evan Suddick
and Joshua Nandy displayed excellent moments of skill combined with
many important tackles. Up front Ronan Dunwoodie gave the Tynemouth
defence no time to rest using his is pace and power scoring four goals.
The Cougars were magnificent and sent the crowd home happy, a performance
to be proud of, well done Lads thoroughly deserved.

North Shields Cougars 0-16 WBC Greens
The Cougars got of to a bad start in their game against a very good
WBC Greens side that were the best side the lads had played all season.
The Cougars were 0-6 down after the first period despite some good saves
from Ryan Scorfield. The Cougars still managed to have several good
chances, first Josh Finlay shot narrowly wide, and then Evan Suddick
got a touch to an excellent through ball and saw his shot trickle past
the post. Matthew Adamson had a great run which resulted in another
good shot saved by the opposition’s goalkeeper. The period ended
0-6. The second quarter saw a magnificent run by Josh Finlay from just
inside his own half; he beat two defenders and brought a good save out
of the opposition’s goalkeeper who turned the shot around the
post. The period ended 0-10. The third period saw the Cougars start
to become a little more confident and James Percy was outstanding in
defence. A superb through ball from Joshua Nandy saw Ronan Dunwoodie
race clear of the defenders and his shot was brilliantly saved by the
goalkeeper, Ronan also put another shot inches wide. Ryan Scorfield
despite intense pressure and incredible shooting by the Greens made
several good saves the best of which he pushed onto the bar when it
seemed destined for the top corner. The period ended 0-13. The fourth
period saw the Cougars continue to improve, but they still had to count
on Ryan Scorfield and James Percy to keep the Greens at bay. The period
ended 0-16. This was by far the Cougars hardest game of the season and
they found it hard to deal with their opponent’s strength, exceptional
skills and shooting power. The Greens coach commented on how well the
Cougars had tried and said that Ronan Dunwoodie’s persistence
in tracking back half the length of the pitch from his forward position
to slide tackle a defender who was approaching the Cougars area typified
their team spirit. Ryan Scorfield made several good saves and James
Percy had is best game of the season, he was superb in defeat. Joseph
Connor, Joshua Nandy, Evan Suddick and Matthew Adamson gave their all
in difficult circumstances. Josh Finlay and Leon Snowdon chased every
ball when defending and were involved in all the teams’ attacks.
Ronan Dunwoodie battled hard and caused problems to an excellent Greens
defence. Today the Cougars played the team who will probably win the
league.

WBJ Porto 6-0 North Shields Cougars
The Cougars were down to the bare seven players for their game against

volunteer goalkeepers during the game. The first period started with
number 1 volunteer Ronan Dunwoodie in goal and they were 0-2 down after
two minutes. Ronan recovered and produced three good saves. Josh Finlay
had two good chances in the first period, first he had a shot which
was pushed round the post by the opposition goalkeeper, then he had
a shot which was blocked on the line. The period ended 0-2.
The second period saw volunteer goalkeeper number 2 Joseph Connor between
the posts. During this period the Cougars began to dominate the game
and a superb through ball from Joshua Nandy saw Ronan Dunwoodie have
a good effort on goal. Josh Finlay had another great run which caused
panic in the oppositions defence and he shot narrowly wide. The period
ended 0-2. The third period was end to end with few chances, Ronan Dunwoodie
had a couple of chances and caused problems up front, the Cougars defence
marshalled by Joseph Connor and James Percy gave nothing away, while
volunteer goal keeper number three Joshua Nandy made several good saves.
The period ended 0-2. The fourth period was again end to end until the
last five minutes when the seven Cougar’s heroes began to tire
and they conceded 4 goals despite a brave effort from volunteer goalkeeper
number 4 Evan Suddick. The game ended 0-6 but the score line did not
do justice to the brave Cougars, who had all played the full 40 minutes
and given their all, they also had to use four different goalkeepers.
Apart from the first two minutes and the last 5 minutes of the game
the Cougars had more than matched their opponents. All seven players
were heroes with special mention for the four volunteer goalkeepers;
With a full side they might have had more reward from the game. The
team gave another performance to be proud of and never gave up or let
their heads go down, the spirit shown by all the members of the team
was exceptional. The four goal keepers Ronan Dunwoodie, Joseph Connor,
Joshua Nandy and Evan Suddick made several great saves, James Percy
and Joseph Connor dominated their defensive area, in midfield Josh Finlay
made some excellent runs, Evan Suddick, Leon Snowdon and Joshua Nandy
often outplayed their opponents and up front Ronan Dunwoodie caused

North Shields Cougars 0-5 Bedlington Milan
The Cougars produced one of their best performances of the season in
torrential rain, wind and freezing cold conditions, and the 0-5 score
line flattered the opposition. The Cougars matched Bedlington pass for
pass and shot for shot but had no luck in front of goal. The 1st period
was end to end with both sides competing well in terrible conditions
the period ended 0-0. The second period was played at a tremendous pace
from end to end and set the pattern for the rest of the game. Ryan Scorfield
was called upon to make several very good saves while at the other end
Matthew Adamson had a shot which went narrowly wide and Ronan Dunwoodie
went close on 3 occasions, the best of which saw him beat three defenders
with his strength and pace and produce a brilliant shot which was excellently
saved by the Bedlington goalkeeper. The score was 0-2 at the end of
the 2nd period and did not do justice to the Cougars fighting team spirit.
The 3rd period saw much of the same with Ryan Scorfield keeping Bedlington
at bay while at the other end Ronan Dunwoodie had a couple of chances
the best of which was created by Matthew Adamson who beat his man played
a superb through ball Ronan held off the defender shot and the keeper
turned it round the post. Leon Snowdon also had 2 very good shots. The
fourth period again saw Ryan Scorfield in top form, Matthew Adamson
went very close and Ronan Dunwoodie had 2 more good chances. The best
effort of the period was from Joshua Nandy who’s ferocious goal
bound effort was headed out as it was about to go over the line, the
rebound came back to Joshua who sent in a second brilliant shot which
just went wide. The game ended 0-5 which was a total mystery to all
the parents who had witnessed this brilliant performance by the Cougars
and their opponents in extreme conditions. Ryan Scorfield continues
to improve with every game and made many excellent saves. Joseph Connor
and James Percy marshalled the defence superbly tackling anything that
moved. In midfield captain Josh Finlay, Evan Suddick and Josh Nandy
covered every blade of grass several times over. Matthew Adamson created
many chances with his clever ideas and skills. Leon Snowdon ran his
heart out and kept a smile on his face throughout the game even though
the game was played in extreme weather conditions. Up front Man of the
Match Ronan Dunwoodie revelled in the conditions and caused the opposition
many problems with his strength and pace and had many attempts on goal
but was very unlucky on several occasions, on any other day he would
have had a hat trick with a bit of luck. Despite having only 1 point
