Match Reports

29/03/09 - v Walker

Manager: Dougie Lamb
Ass. Manager: Kevin Ging

Players: Craig Sherriff, David Mahon, Jack McCumiskey, Alex Nergard, William Lowery, Joshua Whelan, Thomas Ferguson, Matthew Mastaglio, Jez Piper

It was a glorious sunny afternoon at Gosforth and surprisingly warm and not windy for once! Kevin set up the training pitch and just left me to walk on and greet the kids, Kev started a warm up with them, they were all full of beans and very lively, unlike us for working night shift and losing an hours sleep!

We were playing walker under 7's today, who are a fantastic team, and we knew we were up for a good game.

First Quarter:
The whistle went and walker were on the attack immediatly, causing havoc for us, but our great defence in the form of Jack and David stopped them in their tracks. There was some excellent work in mid field from Alex, Josh and William. Walker worked an opening and put the ball in the back of the net, there was nothing craig could have done to stop it! The eagles started attacking and josh made some excellent runs up front, but there keeper was on the ball too! Alex in midfield was very stong with his tackling and William made some fantastic interceptions too.

Second Quarter:
Kevin gave the team talk and made sure they were going out to play football with big smiles on their faces, and carry on enjoying the game. The whistle went and the eagles came out strong. Thomas made some brilliant runs, and jez put in a great tackle! I told josh in the interval to make a menace of himself on the pitch, and that is exactly what he done! He ran at their defence and caused havoc. There was a great pass from Jack to Josh who ran through, beat the keeper and put the ball firmly in the back of the net. The parents went wild, and kev and i thought all our christmas's had come at once, as i picked kev up and swung him round in sheer delight for them!

Third Quarter:
The whistle went and walker must have had a strong team talk, the came out all guns blazing, and found our net again. The Eagles kicked off and were once again running riot on the pitch, making it difficult for the opposition to get past them. Walker took a shot from the half way line and craig pulled off the most fantastic save, taking the full brunt of the ball on his knee, unfortunatly for us the referee thought it was over the line and gave the goal (but we know better!) Matthew came out all guns blazing and put in some great tackles, stopping walker in thier tracks.

Fourth Quarter:
After a good team talk from myself and Kevin, the eagles were full of smiles, and enjoyed the last part of the game. They still battled to stop walker from scoring and made me and Kevin very proud. They had the hearts of a lion. The training and regular matches is paying off for the team as they held some shape, kept postions and battled for the ball. Well done to all players. The parents once again were an asset to the team and made it a very enjoyable game. Well done eagles, keep up the good work!

15/03/09 - v Coast Soccer

Manager: Dougie Lamb
Ass Manger: Kevin Ging

Players: Matthew Mastaglio, Alex Adderly, David Mahon, Jack McCumskey, Alex Nergard, Craig Sherriff, William Lowery, Thomas Ferguson, Joshua Whelan, Gus.

It was a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon at Gosforth, and today we didn't have Kevin, he was doing his Nick Faldo impression at Gleneagles! I met the kids on the training pitch for a warm up, they were all full of the joys of spring! Must have been the sun shining.

There was a slight change to events and we ended up playing Coast Soccer instead of Newcastle City. All the parents looked puzzled but smiled when the realised it was a local team we were playing.

1st Quarter:
The whistle went and the eagles were straight at Coast, there was good passing movements between Alex, Josh and Jack but coast came attacking us. There was some super defending from Alex and David to keep coast at bay. The ball was put forward by the eagles on many ocasions but couldn't hit the back of the net. There were some super saves by Matthew to keep coast from scoring. It was such a close first quarter and both teams were very evenly matched.

2nd Quarter:
I gave the eagles and team talk and asked them to go out, enjoy themselves and do the same again! The whistle went again and coast were on the attack straight away, there manager must have gave them red bull in the interval because there pace picked up. They took a shot from outside of the box and put it straight into the back of our net, despite a very good dive from Matthew. William and Gus came on and made a big impact on the game immediatly, William got stuck straight into the tackles and used his strength to win the ball. Gus made some great interceptions and passed to Jack who then got the ball forward to Josh who attempted a strike but it just wouldn't hit the back of the net!

3rd Quarter:
In this quarter Craig and Thomas came on and got stuck straight into the game. Craig and Thomas made good tackles but coast just kept coming at us. Our defence was solid in the form of Alex and David making great tackles time and time again. The ball went out for a corner to coast and they put the ball into the back of the net from the corner. The Eagles' marking up has got better and better, they made it hard for coast to try and pass the ball around.

4th Quarter:
The Eagles made a good start in this quarter and realy attacked the ball, the ball was passed around nicely as they have been learning in training from myself and Kevin. I honestly thought a goal was coming our way, but it was just one of those days! Coast came at us very strongly, and took a shot from way out and nothing Matthew could do would have kept it from the back of the net. It had been a great game and the Eagles had played fantastic, well done all players. Thanks to the parents for their sideline support and making it a great afternoon. A big thank you to the referee, we had the best one that complete soccer have for his explainations to the kids. Also, thanks to the management of Coast Soccer, they were great!

Hurry up and get back Kev!

Northburn came at us and took a sneaky shot only to be saved by our captain keeper Matthew.
Josh got the ball off a Northburn player and made a good run only for the wind to take it out of play.

Myself and Kevin were really impressed with the way the eagles were marking their men.
The throw-ins from our team were really impressive.
Matthew was saving the ball great his goal kicks were spot on.
Northburn got the ball and got forward their player took a shot from way out and all we could do was watch as the wind caught the ball and it went in the top corner.
Not any keeper could do anything to save that.
The eagles heads were up and they kicked off again our new boy Thomas intercepted the ball and passed to Alex and Alex passed to Jack who got the ball forward to Josh who got the ball taken away.
Thomas again made good tackles and passed the ball about.
Kevin and myself were really impressed with the way Thomas got involved in the game.

Northburns management team were great and we were all enjoying the game on the sidelines.
Northburn put the ball out of play for a corner to us.
The kids got into the box and waited for the ball to be crossed by Jack he put a lovely ball in and it hit a Northburn player on the head and went into his own net the eagles were jumping up and down also me and Kevin were breakdancing on the sidelines Northburns manager thought we were mad.
our parents were jumping up and down.
Northburn started well again and came at us they took a good shot and scored
not to worry as the eagles stayed positive and battled on.

4th quarter
Myself and Kevin gave a team talk and told the team to go out enjoy it and push forward
The whistle went and Jack and Josh made some good passes Craig must have been watching Obafemi Martins and started to copy his goal celebrations Kevin told him to keep that for when he scores fantastic ! Craig.
there was some great play by Alex David,Alex,Thomas,Jack and Josh
Northburn came at us and was intercepted by Craig jack got the ball and passed it to Josh who went on a great run and placed it into the net.
The parents were screaming with joy also Kevin picked me up and swung me round and after the dizziness when he put me down we were jumping up and down.
The final whistle went and what a great game it was.

The team got there first draw and they totally deserved it.
Every player done outstanding and they are really getting to grips with the game.
A big thankyou to the parents for a great afternoon and to the management of Northburn
