Match Reports

9th November 2008 - North Shields 0 Heaton Hawks 0

How Shields failed to win this one by a country mile is a mystery. Man of the match, Adam Gibson, and midefield partners George Sansom and Jordan Alcock were exceptional. But possession failed to turn into goals and when Will Marsh hit the post on the half time whistle, it appeared to sum up the day. Tom Farrar and Lee Crammond kept the Hawks forwards out all afternoon and full backs Darren Kennedy and Arron Mirfin were outstanding.

02/11/08 - Red House Farm Comets 1 - 3 North Shields Juniors

This turned out to be a real test for Shields. They opened brightly and scored after 8 minutes. Will Marsh latching onto a loose ball in the opposition box to finish with aplomb. When the second goal failed to follow quickly, anxiety set in and the comets came back into the match. Their endeavour was rewarded with an excellent equaliser bang on half time.

The start of the second half saw a few frights for Shields, not least when the Comets' lively forward line worked an opening that resulted in a shot coming back off the crossbar. But as the half wore on, Shields' extra class told. George Samson was winning the midfield battle and with 15 minutes to go Rob Haney headed in a smart cross. Minutes later the same player scored a smart second. Only the post denied the goal poacher a justified a hatrick.

The excellent Tom Farrar was awarded man of the match. Jordan Bell and Jordan Allcock must have ran him close. Not to mention the excellent Will Marsh and George Samson.

20th October 2008 -Wallsend Town 0 North Shields 7 (Rangers Cup)

This proved to be a straight forward challenge for Shields with all the players impressing. No one more so than new man George Sansom who was magic throughout and was deservedly named man of the match Rob Haney took advantage of the excellent midfield service with a great hattrick. Adam Gibson, Tom Farrar, Connor Powell and Jordan Bell all scored a goal a piece. On to the next round!

6th October 2008 - Wallsend BC 4 North Shileds 1 (League)

Shields didn't get going at all for the first 30 minutes and went three down in that fateful spell. Man of the match, Jordan Alcock, helped pull Shields round and Rob Haney scored the best goal of the match just after half time. But the early slow start meant that the game was out of sight by then.

22nd September 2008 - North Shields 8 Walker 1 (League)

This was a superb performance against a team Shields have got very little off in past seasons. Lee Crammond got man of the match for a great display as sweeper. But it was the forwards who helped themselves as the midfield engine room of Alcock and Gibson supplied the bullets. Rob Haney netted a couple. His strike partner, Connor Powell also impressed with a couple of well taken goals and Will Marsh, Jake Pirie, Jordan Alcock and Arran Mirfin also chipped in with a goal a piece.

15th September 2008 - North Shields 0 Whitley Bay 5 (League)

In truth, this was a trouncing. Whitley were forst to everything and a strangely lack lustre Shields paid a heavy price. The home side even missed a penalty to make matters worse. Skipper Jordan Alcock was magnificent though and was rightly awarded man of the match.

10th September 2008 - Blyth 1 North Shields 1 (League match)

This opening game of the season proved to be a cracker. Shields broke out of the starting blocks as if they meant business. Man of the match, Adam Gibson scored an absolute beauty to put the away side ahead. Blyth counted themselves very fortunate to walk away with a point when they gained a very fortunate equaliser late on in the game. Well done Shields though. A great team effort first game up.
