07/03/10 - Divisional Cup Semi Final
Wallsend BC 0 - 1 North Shields Juniors
North Shields Juniors Under 16's gained a tremendous 1-0 victory over arch rivals Wallsend Boys Club in the Semi Final of the Divisional Cup at St Peters.
Despite suffering a couple of injuries to an already depleted squad, the Reds showed greated tenacity to beat the home side.
A heroic defensive rearguard action in a one-sided second half enabled the Robins to reach the final for the 4th time in five years to be played at Percy Main's Purvis Park.
An evenly contested first period came to life in the 32nd minute when Michael Elgie was hauled down by a home defender, and debutant Curtis Caul calmly slotted home the resulting penalty.
The Shields defence was then subjected to constant pressure following first half injuries to Brian Graham (ankle) and Ben Wood (foot).
The remaining 11 fit players withstood everything Wallsend could throw at them with Daniel Hunter and Lewis Byers in top form.
Shields almost made it two in the dying seconds as Karl Morrison broke clear of the defence but couldn't manage to steer the ball home.
The Robins will face Whitley Bay Wanderers in the final during April.
