MATCH REPORTS

Whitley Bay 6 –  2 North Shields
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 20th November

It was a difficult match against in form Whitley on Sunday but the lads battled well and played some good stuff in periods of the game.
Once again Shields gave the home side a 2 goal head start before deciding they would give it a go, unfortunately Whitley were too strong to let the early lead go and had chances to go further into the lead but for a fine display from Danny in the Shields goal. Whitley did strike again in the first half to make it   3-0 but a determined Christian Dina pulled one back to make the HT score a more respectable 3-1.
The second half was much better with the reds dominating and a 2nd  Shields goal from Justin Shotton was followed by the sending off of a Whitley player, making an unlikely come back a little more possible.
However, Whitley exploited the gaps in the defence as the lads pushed on for an equaliser and along with some poor excuses for tackles, 10 man Whitley increased their lead to 6-2 by the time the final whistle blew.

Goals: Christian Dina, Justin Shotton

MoM: Christian Dina.

Ellington Juniors 2 – 4 North Shields Juniors
PPR Challenge Shield U15. Sunday 13th November

Shields were drawn against 1st div opposition for this Challenge Shield cup tie and showed just how far they have come in the last few seasons with a very impressive win.

The lads started brightly and had most of the early chances but they found an Ellington keeper in excellent form. Then, with numerous chances going begging, the inevitable sucker punch came. A needles tackle inside the area resulted in a penalty to the home side which they duly despatched. This spurred Ellington on and a second goal came shortly after.
Shields first half luck was complete when they missed a penalty shortly before half time (HT 2-0)

The second half started much the same way as the first but this time the chances were converted. The first saw Declan McIntyre make a great run down the left and his perfect cross between goalkeeper and centre back was turned home by an Ellington defender. The second came after great ball over the top from Richard Munro saw Declan one on one with the keeper and a neat finish followed. The third followed a great run and cross from Ryan who found Adam Hildreth steaming in at the far post to slide home.
The game at this point was almost over as Ellington, obviously not happy losing to “lower” opposition, started making silly tackles and niggles all over the pitch. However, Shields kept their heads and finished the game off with a penalty won by Christian Dina’s never say die attitude and converted by Shaun Blake.
(FT 2-4)

Goals: Declan McIntyre, Adam Hildreth, Shaun Blake, O.G.

MoM: Adam Hildreth. (Excellent mid-field display)

PS – Shields face either Newcastle EE or Heaton Hawks in the Quarter Final.

Whitley Coast Soccer 5 – 0 North Shields
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 6th November

Due to most of the lads knowing each other, all the talk before the game was that this was the one to win, which I was pleased about as Coast were top of the league going into the game and it would have been great to take points from a team well established at this level.
However………The talk didn’t translate into effort on the pitch as Coast were 1st to every ball and took a very early 2 goal lead.
Shields then decided to give it a go and started to get the ball down and play the way they can and for the next 20mins you would never have picked Coast as the team in the lead.  Then with half time looming, Adam Hildreth went through one on one with the keeper and it looked like the half time team talk would be a whole lot easier, unfortunately his shot hit the keepers legs and Coast broke quickly. The next thing, the ref’s whistle blows for a pull on a Coast player inside the area … penalty 3-0 …
Shields unfamiliarity with being behind once again led to ill discipline with 2 yellow cards and a further penalty (well saved by Danny) blighting the second half.
Coast went on to score a further 2 goals and although 5-0 might have flattered the home side, we never looked like winning.

MoM: Les Smith (worked tirelessly)

Blyth Town 2 – 8 North Shields
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 30th October

A beautiful Blyth day (is there such a thing?) and anther satisfying win for Shields as their 1st season at this level continues to go well.
Shields started brightly once again and it soon became apparent that Blyth were there for the taking with early goals from Dean Rogers and a postage stamp free-kick from Liam Higgins only the start of things to come. Blyth did respond but two more goals from Christian Dina saw the reds go in 4-1 up at half time.
The second half produced more good football from Shields with goals from Dean Rogers, Jake Stephenson (2) and Adam Hildreth sealing victory.
The home side did pull one back with sloppy defending from a corner seeing an unmarked Blyth player head home from 5yds (something to work on)

This was another fantastic win for Shields and with the goal scoring ability in the side, I think we can probably hold our own in this league.

Goals: Dean Rogers(2), Christian Dina(2), Jake Stephenson(2), Liam Higgins, Adam Hildreth

  MoM: Les Smith

North Shields 7 –  3 Newcastle City
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 23rd October

Newcastle City came to john Spence on Sunday as one of the favourites for promotion .
Despite going a goal down, Shields are no respecters of reputation this season and duly played City off the park in what was a tremendous team effort.
Goal of the game came from Sam ’Roberto Carlos’ Crowther. Sam picked the ball up 35yds out, played keepy up a couple of times then lashed it into the top corner. His first goal in 2yrs but well worth the wait.

MoM: Les Smith, Ryan Pearson, Sean Blake (although everyone was brilliant)

Goals: Justin Shotton (2), Dean Rogers (2), Les Smith, Jake Stephenson, Sam Crowther.

Newcastle East End 4 – 9 North Shields
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 16th  October

Despite the early start on Sunday, Shields took no time at all to gain control of the game with a goal in the 1st minute from Christian Dina. The lads then proceeded to score 3 more with Christian Dina adding 2  to get a first half hatrick and Dean Rodgers heading in the 4th. East End replied with a goal of their own but it was a first half dominated by the reds.
The boys lost a little bit of discipline in the 2nd half allowing the home side to score 3 times, however the forward play by Shields was more than enough to compete and 5 second half goals from Declam Mcintyre (2). Christian Dina, Justin Shotton and even goalkeeper Danny Lansdell (pen) saw another comfortable victory for the newly promoted side.

Goals: Christian Dina (4), Declan Mcintyre (2), Dean Rodgers, Justin Shotton, Danny Lansdell (pen)

North Shields 2 – 4 Prudhoe Reds
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 9th October

Shields went into this game seeking revenge after their defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
The lads started well and had most of the early position but couldn’t make their dominance count. Then a comical goal mouth scramble saw the shields keeper make a decent save and with Sean Blake getting to the ball first, it looked like panic over, unfortunately his clearance hit a Prudhoe striker on the backside and ended up in the empty net. The goal didn’t dampen the spirit of a confident Shields team and they were on the front foot again with more chances going begging before a good run from the opposition winger saw him go unchallenged into the Shields area before tucking the ball neatly past the keeper.
Again, the lads came back and deservedly got a foothold back in the game with a good finish from Dean Rodgers.
The second half started with a real buzz from boys and they got on level terms with an excellent run and finish from Sean Blake. However they missed too many good chances and couldn’t hold out in what was a hard fought game with the visitors scoring two more in the second half.
Prudhoe obviously came with a game plan after the ill discipline from Shields in the last game but despite the niggles and provocation from the visitors, the boys responded by sticking to their football and not getting involved in any stupidity. WELL DONE!!

Goals: Dean Rodgers, Sean Blake

MoM: Ryan Pearson

Prudhoe Yellows 1 – 4 North Shields Juniors
PPR Challenge Shield U15. Sunday 2nd October

A solid performance from Shields saw them run out 4-1 winners against a very hard working Prudhoe side. The reds started really well and netted an early goal as Sean Blake rose well to head home a perfect Cameron Marshall corner. MoM Blake scored again a few minutes later before Liam Higgins made it three just before half time.
Prudhoe came on in the second half and worked extremely hard for their well deserved goal with a neat chip finding it’s way in over the head of the shields’ keeper. However, Prudhoe’s come back was soon squashed as Les Smith curled a  magnificent 25 yard shot into the top right hand corner of the Prudhoe goal.
All in all a decent performance from the boys which keeps us in the hat for the next round.

Goals: Sean Blake (2), Liam Higgins, Les Smith

MoM: Sean Blake

North Shields 4 – 1 Ryton & Crawcrook Juniors
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 25th  September

Shields went into this game with a point to prove to everyone who witnessed their stupidity last week and credit to them, they did.

The lads dominated the first half creating chance after chance and their play got the goal they deserved with a header from Dean Rodgers. However they were almost made to pay for their wasted chances as Ryton persistently caught out the centre backs with a ball over the top, one of which resulted in a one on one which Shields keeper, Danny Lansdell did well to palm clear.

The second half kicked off at 1-0 but it wasn’t long before Shields dominance finally took them clear of a strong Ryton side with a brace from Jake Stephenson. This spurred Ryton back into the game and they managed to pull a goal back but the second half centre back pairing of Sean Blake and Les Smith made sure that it would only be a consolation. The game was eventually wrapped up with a well taken finish from Justin Shotton.

Goals: Dean Rodgers (1), Justin Shotton (1), Jake Stephenson (2),

MoM: Sean Blake

Prudhoe Reds 9 – 4 North Shields
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 18th  September

We turned up at the magnificent setting of Close House with the pitch and weather perfect for a great game of football. Unfortunately the lads had other ideas.

Shields started slowly, conceding 2 early goals. However they soon got back into their stride with goals from Sean Blake, Liam Higgins, Jake Stephenson and an O.G. putting us 4-2 ahead.
It then looked like we would go on and win comfortably but a complete lack of discipline from front to back meant we spent the rest of the game conceding a penalty and too many free kicks in dangerous positions. Add to that two yellow cards and 7 more goals conceded and what started as a lovely day turned into one of the most ridiculous games I’ve witnessed in my whole time with the team.
No excuses, just embarrassment.

Goals: Sean Blake, Liam Higgins, Jake Stephenson and O.G.

MoM: The ref when he blew the final whistle!!!!

North Shields 9 – 1 Amble Juniors
NABC U15  Div 2  Wednesday 14th September

Shields won the toss on what was a blustery night at John Spence and decided to kick with the wind. Although this proved profitable with 3 first half goals from Dean Rodgers (2) and Christian Dina, the lads gave up their excellent passing game for a shoot on sight policy, which wasn’t very pretty.

The second half was much better with the reds playing against the wind and going back to their ‘proper game’ of quick passing and excellent movement off the ball. This resulted in 6 more goals from Jake Stephenson (2), Justin Shotton (2), Sean Blake (1), and Adam Hildreth (1). The visitors did pull a goal back in the latter stages with a long range free kick sailing, wind assisted, into the top corner.

That’s 2 games played now since being promoted into the 2nd div with 17 scored and 1 conceded. I’m absolutely certain that their will be much tougher games ahead but the boys can be really pleased with their great start.
(their manager certainly is!!)

Goals: Dean Rodgers (2), Justin Shotton (2), Jake Stephenson (2), Christian Dina, Sean Blake, Adam Hildreth.

MoM: Les Smith

North Shields 8 – 0 Heaton Hawks
NABC U15  Div 2  Sunday 11th September

Newly promoted Shields played their first game of the season on Sunday and the 8-0 scoreline didn’t flatter the home side as they played some fantastic attacking football. Cameron Marshall opened the scoring after 10mins with Liam Higgins (2) and Dean Rodgers making it 4-0 at half time.

The 2nd half went much the same way as the 1st with Shields moving the ball quickly down both wings and Liam Higgins and MoM Ryan Pearson getting great balls into the box. Four more goals followed with 2 from Christian Dina and 1 each from Declan McYntire and Dean Rodgers. However the Hawks made us work for our clean sheet towards the end of the game as a goal line clearance from skipper Richard Munro and an acrobatic save from keeper Danny Lansdell (we’ll get the camera ready next time) earned a much deserved shut out.

Goals: Liam Higgins (2). Dean Rodgers (2). Christian Dina (2). Cameron Marshall (1). Declan McYntire (1)

M.o.M : Ryan Pearson.
