Match Reports
06/11/11 - Tynemouth Utd 0 - 5 North Shields Wanderers
Etherington made a welcome return and successfully man-marked the player who had tormented us the week before. Mole started the scoring in the 2nd minute, but it took 25 minutes for us to get a second, Coxon battling in the box to work an opportunity for himself. Five changes at half-time paid immediate dividends, with 2 goals in the first 3 minutes. First Gaddi was sent clear by Pattison, then Donkin lashed in an effort from just inside the box. Briggs had a bright debut, and hit the post, but Pattison rounded off the scoring with his first of the season.
30/10/11 - North Shields Wanderers 2 - 1 Tynemouth Utd
Wanderers didn't get out of bed for this one, but still limped to victory. A long-range effort from Taylor and a cool finish from Mole the only highlights.
23/10/11 - North Shields Wanderers 0 - 6 Corbridge United
A bad day at the office. Woeful defending and terrible attacking. Sam gets man of the match for soldiering-on despite being punched in the eye by his own keeper.
16/10/11 - North Shields Wanderers 11 - 3 Cramlington Town Blues
A welcome return to league action yielded the team's biggest ever goal tally. Betts scored within 2 minutes, and the lead was doubled on 5 minutes when Gaddi was sent clean through and lobbed the keeper. A bullet of an own goal was followed by the move of the game - a good pass out of defence by Barrington, finding Finlay down the left, who beat 2 defenders before finding the bottom corner of the net. By half time it was 6-0, with Mole lifting an effort over the keeper into the far corner and Betts following-up a Coxon shot. The manager changed things at half time, allowing Cramlington some chances, which they duly converted, but another 5 went in at the other end - a first goal for Routledge (a header!), 2 for Armstrong, a first of the season for Donkin, and Betts completing his hattrick.
09/10/11 - North Shields Wanderers 1 - 11 North Shields Juniors
Another brave cup display from the team, against 1st division opposition. The lads battled to keep the score down to only 3-0 at half time, but the extent of their first half-exertions and the lack of any substitutes took its toll in the second half. Highlights were an excellent keeping display by Scotland and a goal for Betts.
02/10/11 - North Shields Wanderers 1 - 5 Cramlington Town Yellows
Wanderers' match reporter was on a scouting mission to Colombia. Another cup game against higher division opposition. Enough said.
14/09/11 - Longbenton 1 - 5 North Shields Wanderers
A game Shields dominated from the start, but where poor finishing threatened to cost us dearly. It took 15 minutes to find the net, but by half time it was 4-0. Injuries to Betts and Pattison spolied the second half, but Gaddi went on to complete his hattrick. The side tired in the last 5 minutes again and that cost us a first clean-sheet.
11/09/11 - Cup - North Shields Athletic 11 - 3 North Shields Wanderers
Wanderers did well to take the lead and stay in touch with 2nd division opposition until half time. After the break the difference told and Scotland had to pull off some impressive saves at the back.
07/09/11 - North Shields Wanderers 5 - 5 Prudhoe Town
End to end contest played in blustery conditions. Wanderers looked rusty early on, but improved as the game progressed with Curry switching to centre back to steady the ship. Betts produced an early contender for goal of the season, meeting a Taylor cross on the volley. Two soft goals in the last 5 minutes cost us dearly.
