MATCH REPORTS

Managers end of season review.
"Two years ago, when moving to under 11 football in Division 4, we
knew some of the team were capable of playing at a higher level. With
a few quality additions and the development of others we will now be
playing at a level that these lads have pushed to get too, Division 2.
Cup defeats this season to Division One teams by narrow margins show
we are heading in the right direction. This season has seen the team
fully deserve its promotion and unlucky to miss out on the title with
very little to choose between our games with Ashington AFC (Well Done
Colin and is team).

Myself and Gordon will continue to try and develop these lads even
further and with the right application, and a couple of additions we
are quietly confident for next season.

Well done lads, you have been a pleasure to manage (most of the time
:-) ) and if you continue to listen, learn and enjoy your football im
sure you can do yourselves proud in the second division.

Final comment for the parents. Thank you for support and assistance,
it makes all the difference in helping run this team.
Cheers Steven & Gordon"

I have also attached a photo to update this page and maybe add it on
the Main Page with the heading " North Shields Athletic Under 12s
Promoted to Division 2 - Well Done Lads"

NABC  Div 3   16th May 2010
North Shields Athletic  v  Blyth Town

1st Half
Well the last game of the season and while promotion was guaranteed we still wanted to end the campaign with an unbeaten home record. The only absentee today was Josh so Alex moved inside to centre back with Brad to right back. The early signs were good with both Brad and Louis linking up well to force a couple of early corners, one of which was well met by Kyle who forced a good save from the keeper.ten minutes had gone when the breakthrough came, Alex intercepted a ball from a Blyth forward, and  carried forward to spot Jakk , immediately sent in a pass who held the ball up and turned past one defender to shoot right footed into the roof of the net for 1-0.Jakk it was next to chase on a defensive clearance only to meet the keeper  and he did just enough to clear Blyth’s lines, plenty of crosses were coming in from both Brad and Connor especially but with only Jakk to challenge, more bodies were needed to attack the penalty area.Defensively  the back four had coped well with the pressure blyth had exerted but there were enough signs to show the second half could be interesting.
2nd Half
As expected Blyth came out fast and Carl was called upon to pull off a great one handed save to turn away a fierce shot, the ball was not cleared though and broke to an unmarked forward  to slide under the keepers body for 1-1. Athletic were looking rattled and within five minutes found themselves behind, Blyth earned a free kick just outside the area and for the second game in a row thw kick was hammered in, cannoned off the bar, at first play continued , until the ref spotted the linesmans flag waving to confirm the ball had crossed the line, the linesman was our own Eddie, what honesty ,well done Eddie. 1-2. Character was now needed and the response was brilliant. Tackles became stronger all over the park, without sacrificing the football playing ethic, and just as we hadn’t done in the first half we got higher in support of the forwards, in one attack  Jakk  had spotted Connor and crossed the ball over , the cross was a little strong but Luke was supporting in behind and lobbed over the incoming keepers head for the equaliser 2-2.now on the up Athletic pressed for the winner , but it was Blyth who came close with another free kick that had to be headed off the line through a crowd of players, couldn’t quite tell , but sure it was Jakk., great covering. An entertaining game had one more twist, Alex again picked up a Blyth clearance and sent a 30 yard ball over the midfield and inside the right back, Candy raced on to it and sent in cross which just begged to be headed home and Jack did just that rising to nod home, 2 passes and one goal a fitting way to win any game, if thats how it was to finish, Blyth to their credit still piled forward but Athletic held out for a 3-2 win.

Wallsend community   v  North Shields Athletic

1st Half
With promotion guaranteed, tonight was our penultimate game of the season, and a short trip to the Rising Sun.The home side started the brighter and early shots rained in on Carl, which he handled with ease.Again as on Sunday the play was a little too relaxed and Wallsend were able to get among our midfield. To the lads credit they did continue to look to pass the ball with both full backs Cameron and in particular Alex getting forward and linking up well with the midfield. It was on the right side the opening goal came when an excellent one/two between Louis and Brad, left Brad to whip in a dangerous cross which sailed over the keepers head and was turned in by a defenders boot for an og. 1-0. Wallsend continued to hassle and a series of missed tackles in the eighteen yard box led to the home sides tricky left winger to wriggle clear and fire past carls outstretched hand for 1-1. As if fired up Athletic decided enough was enough and in the last 5 minutes of the half, Jakk bagged himself a brace, the first one he forged for himself with a good turn and shot on the edge of the box and the second after Ross had won a challenge on the back post to set him up to shoot into the roof of the net. Half time 3-1.

2nd Half
Athletic came out fast for the start of the second half and were 4-1 up within 5 minutes with Jakk getting the hat trick from another good turn just inside the box and shooting right footed over the keeper into the net.. Not to be outdone Wallsends skilfull no 10 again eluded tackles on the edge of the box to be brought down, he himself got up and smashed the free kick into the net. For 4-2.although that was that, Athletic surged forward in wave after wave of attack, many it has to be said starting from the back which pleased the coaches no end.jakk sailed past two tackles then spotted Connor , he preceded to go round the defender and fire low and in the corner for 5-2.Kyle that put candy clear who in turn crossed to Jordan and a deft flick wrong footed the keeper for Josh to tap into an empty net. 6-2. Connor then grabbed his second and Athletics seventh, while there was just time for Josh to score perhaps the goal of the game with an acrobatic scissor kick from the eighteen yard line over the keepers head and into the net. Final score 8-2.
While the football played was excellent we do need to compete a little harder  when we have not got the ball, with all due respect to Wallsend they caused us problems in this area and far better teams next season will punish us even more severely.

North Shields Athletic  v  Guidepost

1st Half
A rare Saturday game today, however the conditions  were unchanged, windy and cold, i almost forgot it was May not November. After RHF had done us a favour in midweek  beating Blyth Town only a point was needed today to earn automatic promotion. The early play was all with Athletic but the fluency was not quite there, Connor on two occasions working the keeper forcing saves. Athletic continued to press but struggled to cope, perhaps it was the strong wind in their faces,or the nature of the game, however something was missing. Midway through the half the opening goal came when Kyle created space on the edge of the box and crossed over for Connor to flick cleverly into the far corner for 1-0.Half time came without any further addititons and time for some stern words .

2nd Half
After a lengthy half time chat Alex and Louis joined the game. The lads responded immediately Jakk latching onto a long ball, looked up and shot past the outstretched keepers hand for 2-0, again minutes after a carbon copy saw the same result for 3-0.Louis and Alex were continuing to link up well on the right with Alex in particular sending over crosses of great quality, Jakk getting on the end of one such cross to flick just wide of the post, then came the move of the game when Luke turned the right back brilliantly and crossed to Kyle on the edge of the box, Louis then broke inside the full back and Kyle played him in to chip the oncoming keeper and into the net.4-0.Alex then overlapping with Louis sent another pin point cross , jakk attacked and lobbed just over . Jakk then got the hat trick from another good move involving great one twos and interplay between  Kyle, Alex,Connor and Louis who this time crossed  for Jakk to score for 5-0.Jakks fourth was again courtesy of going clean through and firing home past a forelorn keeper, 6-0.The next goal was and still is disputed not by the opposition but by Alex/Luke.Alex, again overlapping Louis this time crossed/lobbed? the keeper , the wind caught hold and sailed over the outstretched keepers hand and was dropping into the net when Luke made sure and nodded in,Luke claims was not over the line, while Brad/Josh confirmed it was over the line before the last touch with Steve and i too far away lets just call it a shared goal. 7-0.With Jakk off having a well earned rest Josh moved up front and the strike of the game belonged to him when a la Jakk raced clear to unleash a left foot rocket over the keeper and into the net for 8-0. The keeper who had again put in a hearty display all game was injured in the process and could no longer continue. Not long after the final whistle blew and promotion was ours.
This was a great response after half time lads and well done for reacting positively. We now have one home and one away game left and steve and i want to win both games, stay unbeaten at home, keep the best defensive record in the league and try and top Ashington as top scorers, its just a shame we cant pip them for the league. Wonderful progress boys while last season was great we were asked to move up, this season we have earned it outright!!

Ashington  v  North Shields Athletic

Ist Half

The return clash of the top two in the divison was upon us, weather was set fair and we all looked forward to this game.things could not have got off to a better start when Bradley tussled for a ball in the penalty area to win possession and poke the ball towards Connor who fired home for 1-0, what a start, North Shields continued to dominate and forced plenty of corners and while the delivery was excellent we could not capitalise on them, in defence Ashington looked like they could pose a threat and Carl had to look sharp on a couple of occasions , Connor then went close when he turned on a free kick only to shoot at the keeper, half time came with the score at 1-0.

2nd Half

We knew the second half would mean a sterner test from Ashington, and it was, in fact all of a sudden it was like a different game, startled cats looking into the headlights of an incoming car comes to mind, we barely got out of our half throughout, the home side pressed from all angles, even so it was three gifted goals that gave Ashington the win. The equaliser  came when  a short pass out from defence went straight to the right winger who gladly accepted the gift and hammered home 1-1. Next came from an unchallenged cross to an even more unchallenged and unmarked forward, and again the chance was took 1-2. Finally after great skill ,the right back turned inside three challenges to shoot home for  1-3. We had nothing to offer, it looked like tiredness had set in too. The full time whistle blew and Ashington celebrated.
Lets not be down hearted though this is our first league defeat with only three  games to go and we only need 4 points from 9 to guarantee promotion that is just reward for all your hard work this season so lets make sure and have a great time at the beach on Sunday.

N A B C   Div 3   25/4/10
Corbridge  v  North Shields Athletic.

1st Half

Third away day in a row saw the long trip to Corbridge, we knew today would be difficult Corbridge are a strong home side and the early exchanges proved this as they won a number of corners although Carl had little to save, in Attack good right side play earned Jakk an early shot but the keeper was positioned well to save easily.Midway through the half Corbridge earned what is to say a very debatable free kick in a dangerous position and wasn’t it just the case that the kick went over the keepers oustretched hand and into the net. Chances were few and far between after that however a great corner from Candy met by Connor was cleared off the line and while Corbridge had alot of possession did not force Carl into a save. A disappointing first half from an Athletic perspective ended 0-1.

2nd Half

The only change for the second half was to bring Brad on to the right and he had an immediate impact giving the home defenders plenty of trouble and linking well with Connor, Connor himself had good opportunities to shoot on target  but the shooting boots today had deserted him, although he continued to send in some very dangerous crosses, but every one seemed to fall to defenders of be palmed away by the keeper, and when Jakk did manage to get on the end of at least two of them, the striker appeared to be pushed in the back but no whistle ensued unlike the first half free kick. The lads had answered the call and surely the pressure would tell, all the play was in the home half with only token attacks from the home side.Brad again wide right collected a ball and danced inside two challenges to clip a ball goalwards, the defender jumping to try and head clear simply glanced the ball between his keepers hands and into the net for 1-1. The dubious goals panel say, Brads goal, his effort was on target. This fired on Athletic even more, Jordan had a shot from a corner cleared off the line Kyle had a scorcher, rocket off the crossbar, Connor clipped one just wide, Jakk and then Luke saw great efforts go just wide and Abou had a shot tipped over the goal, not our day, clearly, as time ran out with the final score 1-1.This was a great response after half time lads and on that performance alone deserved the win on chances created. We have learnt one lesson so far this season that in the tight games its taking the half chances that make the difference.Should we perform on Wednesday against Ashington as in the second half today , it will be some game.

Guidepost  v North Shields Athletic

1st Half

For the second long away trip in a row tonights game was at basement club Guidepost. The First goalmouth action came from Athletic with Jakk warming the fingers of the keeper who had to turn round the post, Luke then got in on the act when superbly set up by Connor rattled a twenty yard shot off the bar and down on the line.Athletic were knocking the ball about with much more fluency than last Sunday but it was from route one , the first goal came. Cameron latched on a loose ball and sent a pass over the defence for Jakk to react quickest and slot under the keeper for 1-0.Luke who had been involved in just about everything at this stage, sent over a great cross which Ross coming in at the back post hit and was superbly saved as was the rebound, great goalkeeping.Cameron then set up the next goal for Luke himself to shoot home from close range and in off a defender for 2-0.At the other end again Josh was looking composed and continued his good form of recent weeks and with Cameron’s assists all was well at the back Jordan and Alex also contributed and that unit again showed why we have the meanest defence in this league. There was still time for one more goal before half time when Connors pace took him on to a ball in the penalty area and he lobbed the keeper and into the net, Luke was on hand to make sure and he honestly admitted that the ball had crossed the line before making sure, HT 3-0.

2nd Half

The second half continued in pretty much the same vein as the first and the next goal came about from Jordan picking up a ball  at the back and switching play superbly to Cameron, he in turn carried to  give to Ross wide left who cleverly laid back to Josh as the way forward was blocked, Josh lifted a pin point pass over the defence and jakk did the rest finishing for 4-0.Jakk didn’t need to wait long for his 32nd goal of the season when again Luke played in the striker with a ball of great precision, chipped over the centre half for Jakk to turn and shoot into the corner, 5-0.The save of the game came next and in my view the save of the season so far when Candy flicked a precise right foot lob over the keepers head who was on his six yard line only to see the keeper sprowt wings and claw a right hand on the ball and turn round the post, wonderful goalkeeping.Jakk then grabbed his fourth of the game when Kyle had again superbly set up the striker to round the keeper and fire home for 6-0.goal seven cam e from a corner swung in superbly by Candy to find Jordan with the easiest of chances to finish from 3 yards out. Final score 7-0.Now for the next long trip, passports out, and its off to Corbridge on Sunday .

West Denton  v North Shields Athletic

1st Half.
Still missing today Louis with those broken fingers otherwise we had the full squad available. For the first time in recent games we were being put under pressure by the opposition who had already won 3 corners in the first 10 minutes, although the defence coped well . Forays into the Denton half were often from long balls with Jakk racing on the end of one from Alex only to be thwarted by the keeper then  Connor doing the same down the right to hit the post,Luke and Jakk then worked an opening between them down the left for Luke to shoot just wide, so perhaps the goal was coming although we were now inside the last 10 minutes of the half. The next long ball though was to prove more fruitful when Josh cleared and Connor ran onto to shoot low into the corner  for 1-0. A second followed quickly when clever play from Brad to lift over two Denton defenders for Connor  to sprint clear and Cross for jakk  to shoot home from 8 yards out. 2-0. At Half Time.
2nd Half.
Like the first half Denton came out fast and this time caused some nervous moments in the home defence, but never really tested Carl in goal. Athletics third goal came about when a back pass was picked up by the keeper and the resulting free kick to was laid off to Connor by jakk to fire home for 3-0.the two strikers always looked to be the goal threat from Athletics point of view, with Connor especially going close on a couple more occasions. Denton never gave up to their credit and earned themselves a penalty which was duly dispatched for 3-1, After that chances seemed to dry up with Candy having a goal disallowed and two denton strikers conspiring to get in each others way with an open goal pending . the final whistle blew for 3-1.Six games left now boys three wins needed for guaranteed promotion.

NABC  Div 3 - 14/04/10
Whitley Bay FC  v  North Shields Athletic

1st Half.
The first midweek game of the season was the short journey to Foxhunters and the home of Whitley FC, a tight and firming pitch could mean mistakes as the lads had been used to much softer ground of late, Carl was even heard to ask why watering hadn’t taken place, thanks for the laugh Carl, feel free to ask the council or ask the residents surrounding to turn hose pipes over their fences and on the pitch. The home side won the toss and changed ends, early signs were that play needed to be sharp as the home team were quick to close down, but most of the early attacks came from Athletic and like the home game against Whitley we continued to spurn chances.10 minutes in a defensive clearance from Cameron hit the hard ground and lifted over the centre half, Jakk was first to react ahead of the keeper and walk into an empty net for 1-0.Then came more missed chances before Luke sent in a shot from the edge of the penalty area which took a wicked deflection and into the net for 2-0. And the half time score.
2nd Half.
Athletic came out fast at the start of the half and the third came when Kyle sent in a shot the keeper couldn’t hold and Connor reacted fastest to finish 3-0.Athletic were now playing more fluent football and good interplay between Brad and Jordan led to a through ball which Connor raced onto to hammer home for 4-0.The home side then picked up a consolation goal when sloppy play in defence led to the ball breaking to the lone forward and he finished low and into the corner giving the keeper no chance. 4-1.After one of two debatable offsides against Jakk the striker finally scored his second when a superb ball in from Connor saw the striker smash in a right foot scissor  kick, 5-1. The scoring hadn’t finished when Jakk looking for his hat trick shot low to the keepers right for the save to be finished by the incoming Ross for his second goal in as many games, 6-1. And the final score, well done for keeping the pressure up on Ashington and with two games coming up to the league leaders none the chance is there to narrow the gap even further and still have a game in hand.

NABC Div 3 - 11-4-10
North Shields Athletic  v  Cramlington Town

1st Half.

Visitors today were Cramlington Town and we were looking to keep up the pressure on leaders Ashington.Athletic started the game on the front foot and immediately put the opposition under pressure with both Connor and Jakk forcing the keeper into saves. The opening goal was just around the corner, Alex picked up a loose ball and looked up to see jakk just inside the penalty area, sent in a pin point cross for Jakk to dummy and Candy coming in behind to fire home with a right foot shot, 1-0.More chances came and went before number 2 when Brad played in Connor to sprint clear and hammer home, 2-0.Connor himself turned provider next when curling a cross in from the right for Jack to finish with a low shot under the keepers body 3-0. This was the half time score and while the score indicates a one sided half it wasn’t as Cramlington showed flashes what they could create but everytime an opening looked on Josh would appear to clean up and again this was the platform the attack needs, that and today we were winning headers and sending balls back into dangerous areas with headed clearances, well done boys for doing as you had practiced in training this week, this was to continue throughout the second half too.

2nd Half.

Luke and Ross joined the fray for the second half and it wasn’t long before Luke became involved when he tried a first time shot on the edge of the area, unfortunately the shot was sliced but straight into the path of Alex who carried into the box and with the keeper advancing lifted the ball over and into the net for his first goal in 2 seasons and the fourth for Athletic.Luke again was involved in Athletics fifth when after collecting a ball on the edge of his area looked up and switched play beautifully to the right for Brad to attack the by- line  and cross for Abou to finish for 5-0.Everything was now involving Luke and the midfielder next sent in a shot after being set up by Connor which clipped the post, while Athletic were making positional changes Cramlington took advantage and send a long ball forward which the forward lifted expertly over the keepers head for 5-1.Athletic hit straight back with Jakk breaking clear to shoot hard and low only to see his shot saved well but for Ross to following in well and finish for 6-1.there was still time however for two more defenders to get on the score sheet with Jordan and then Josh both grabbing goals, Josh after earlier running nearly the whole length of the field only to fall like my horse in the national just as the trigger was about to be pulled, then when Jordan was looking to grab his second unselfishly cut back to Abou to tap in for his second and Athletics ninth, Final score 9-1 and with Ashington loosing today an extra boost for the lads.

N A B C  Div 3 - 4th April 2010
Red House Farm Milan  v  North Shields Athletic.

1st Half.

Todays game was the return fixture with Red House, who had recently come into some good form, therefore for the second game running Athletic would have to be at their best we felt to get a result. Mind you when we took a look at the pitch we weren’t sure if we were back to mini soccer days it was so small. While it was clear in the early exchanges that the size of the pitch would leave little time on the ball, play resorted from very quick one touch and movement play to the long ball game, the home side clearly used to the pitch looked strong and tested the back four, but they remained strong, Josh in particular was looking impressive.Looking to keep up their passing game  principles Athletic earned a corner on 10 minutes, the kick found itself being cleared only for Cameron to unleash a shot from the edge of the box which the keeper could only parry into the net, but after giving the goal the referee then decided to disallow, for what ? we were all bemused, even opponent manager admitted should have been given. Not to be deterred Athletic came straight back, with Jakk winning possession to turn and shoot over the keeper, this time allowed the score was 1-0.As expected Red House then had a good run of play but without ever really testing Carl but the keeper had to look smart on a number of occasions to collect bobbling balls and difficult crosses. With wing play difficult Abou and Kyle were to play an important role as much play had to go central, Abou, himself picked up a loose ball and spotted Connor and sent a pin point pass between centre half and full back for Connor to race onto to hit with the outside of his right boot into the net for 2-0, while not exactly cruising Athletic were good for the lead until just before half time a poor kick out led to pressure and A Red House player looked up and spotted the keeper back tracking and sent the ball over and into the net for a half time score of 2-1.

2nd Half
We were  expecting the home side to come out strong and they did just that, at times Athletic could just not clear their lines and the equaliser came when again missed tackles resulted in a shot past Carl  on the near post for 2-2. The home side were now in the ascendancy and Athletic probably found themselves under more pressure that at any time this season, but to their immense credit stood firm and with Jakk warming the keepers fingers, began to look like a goal could come, again with play more often through central areas, Kyle himself picked up the ball and ran at the heart of the home defence, passed to Jakk who held up and slid a pass through to Connor who again finished superbly for 3-2. This was with 7 minutes to go and we never felt the scoring had finished and it hadn’t, Red House equalised, while somehow a long ball into the box saw a Home forward latch on to the quickest and slot under the advancing keeper for 3-3, no time to breath as a winner was on the way, for whom ? With a minute to go Athletic as they had all game would not resort to lumping the long ball forward began a move in their half, with interplay between Kyle and Luke, Luke passed to Connor who again outsprinted the defence and while cover and the keeper came across spotted Jack standing unmarked and found the striker who took a touch with the left foot  finished with the unfavoured right foot, for 4.2 and full time as the whistle blew just after the re-start.A hard fought win but very important in the push for promotion two seasons running.

28/03/10 - NABC  League  Div  3
North Shields Athletic  v Ashington

1st Half.
Finally after three postponements the top of the table clash could go ahead between the two unbeaten teams  in div 3, Athletic were at full strength and were looking to try and bridge the gap with the runaway leaders. The wind was strong and threatened to spoil what was a game we had all been looking forward to. As expected the pace was fast, and competitive and for the first time in a little while the home sides defence were being tested, but to their credit were holding the Ashington forwards who were big and strong. With midfields cancelling each other out chances were at a premium, however  midway through the half a long ball out of defence saw Jordan one on one with the away striker, who was strong and eluded the tackle and while Carl came to challenge slotted the ball past and into the far corner for 0-1.This was only the third time this season Athletic had found themselves behind in league games and on each other occasion, they showed great character in coming back to win the games, would the same happen ? To their credit rather that allow Ashington to gain a foothold on the game came storming back Abou and Kyle were beginning to gain the upperhand in midfield and with Connors pace looking to cause problems and Luke on the right continuing to link up well with the forwards, the home side deserved to get level and they did when again both Kyle and Abou won important tackles for Jakk to pick up possession on the edge of the penalty area, turn and shoot across the keeper, who seemed to be wrong footed and the ball sped past and into the net for 1-1. Five minutes later Jack again held up possession inside the box and was bundled over , the penalty was awarded but the resulting kick was saved by the keeper.Luke then went close bringing out a good save from the keeper to turn round the post, half time came with the score still level.
2nd Half
With Athletic having to start the second half with skipper Jordan on the bench due to,injury a little reshuffling was in order, with Luke dropping into the back four, Luke himself had to leave the play midway through the half also injured. The home side continued to press right and left but Ashington remained firm, while at the other end Carl was a virtual spectator, much to the hard work of the players in front of him, Alex and Josh in particular having solid games, he did have to be on his toes when a firm shot had to be well saved and also managed to push  out of danger too, that was pretty much all he had to deal apart from  a couple of clearances,Connor was continuing to give the right back a torrid time and at one point the away side had to double up the defenders in front of him, and a superb run to the by line and pull back saw Candy race in from the left to smash a volley on to the  cross bar, then déjà vue with Brad next to rattle the cross bar. That turned out to be the last chance of the game, and it ended 1-1, some may say the expected result between these two teams, but the better of the chances came the way of the home side and while the commitment and effort was 100 % we can’t help but feel 2 points  were dropped in the quest for the league title, but it’s one point nearer to promotion and away from our rivals, with games in hand, so well done, we’re still unbeaten and perhaps physiologically we now have an edge over Ashington, lets go to their place and pick up full points, whenever that may be.

NORTH SHIELDS ATHLETIC V MONTAGU

1st Half

The visitors for todays game were Montagu and we were looking for the first double of the season after the earlier season victory. Missing today were Louis and Ross, Louis having sustained a bad concussion at the ice rink. All is ok though and it was good to see him at the game, bruised head and all. Montagu kicked off and Athletic won possession straight back and after an early half chance the first real chance fell with Brad crossing in a lovely ball, which was flicked on by Jakk at the near post for Candy coming in at the back post to nod home for 1-0. More good wing play followed when Jakk pulled back well for Abou to head just over, however Abou was to get on the score sheet when after pin ball in the penalty area, Abou picked out the top right of the net to fire home for 2-0.A period of little chances followed with shots from Kyle,Alex and Abou not troubling the keeper, too much and Carl while having a quiet half was asked to look sharp when a short back pass left the keeper exposed , but pulled off a great save to save the blushes .Five minutes from the break Kyle, expertly set up by Josh shot over the keeper for 3-0.
2nd Half
At half time the instructions were to play the ball wider and utilise the crossing ability of Candy and as if by magic, just joking lads !! Carl threw early to Cameron who then moved play quickly to Candy to whip in and while Connor moved across the keepers eyeline the ball found its way to Brad to tap in for 4-0, Again similar play this time starting with Jordan, Luke Cameron and then Candy saw the cross again causing all sorts of trouble with Jack clipping the bar and away to safety.Connor was next to break clear in the box only to be pulled down, the penalty however was missed. Goal 5 did come though when Connor whipped in a cross this time from the right and all the centre half could do was head into his own net, 5-0.Play was also interchanging down the right wing too with good interplay from Brad and Alex saw the latter send Connor clear wide right and the cross was knocked out for a corner, from the resulting corner Abou picked up and played into Jakk and with the defence pushing out expertly turned the centre half and curled the ball round the keeper for 6-0.goal seven also belonged to the striker with a tap in via good work from Brad , 7-0.Candy then got back on the score sheet when he reacted first to a drop ball landing on the penalty spot to volley home for 8-0.There was still time for one more and this belonged to  Jack for the hat trick to fire home again from a Candy cross. 9-0 the final score .

North Shields Athletic  v  West Denton

1st Half
Opponents today  were  one of last seasons promoted sides along with Athletic, however Athletic found the team from Newcastle to their liking scoring 19 in three games. How would todays game fair.Athletic kicked off with a strong wind behind them and did not have to wait long for the first chance, with Kyle setting up Connor who poked the ball just wide with the keeper advancing. After 10 minutes the same two players again fashioned a similar opening and as the keeper and Connor clashed the loose ball broke to Jack who tapped in the easiest of chances, 1-0.A free kick 20 yards out for Athletic was the next opening but after the first effort was charged down the rebound was sent wide. With Carl  a virtual spectator, Athletic pushed  forward and Kyle increased the score with a well judged lob over the keeper for 2-0, and from a rare Denton attack, Jordan collected and sent a wonderful ball for Connor to race clear and again with the keeper advancing timed the lob beautifully for 3-0 at half time.

2nd half

The first action of the second half saw a well worked corner between Cameron and Kandy break loose just inside the box, while first to react was Connor to unleash a thunderbolt into the roof of the net for 4-0. With the wind now much stronger Denton were causing one or two more problems and even brought Carl, in goal to save well from a fiercly struck shot and the follow up blasted wide . Denton did though pull a goal back when a free kick on the 15 yard box was curled in off the post.4-1. The four goal advantage was soon restored when Jack won possession, held off the defender and shot over the outstretched keepers hand for 5-1. Kandy was to get on the scoresheet next when the ever impressive jakk split the full back and centre half with a pin point pass for the left winger to race on to and curl under the keepers body for 6-1.To their immense credit Denton continued to push and when unable to clear their lines properly a firm shot was sent past the outstretched keepers hand for 6-2.Jakk was not finished though scoring goals 7 and 8, the last of them after good play wide right between Louis and Abou worked the opening. The final goal of the game belonged to Brad finishing well rounding the keeper after being set up expertley by Luke.the final score 9-2.

Welcome back to action. No rain nor snow just a little frost, was it possible the sun could shine too bright that the players would be blinded and the game would be called off again? No, thankfully and we had a game.A full compliment of players today and we welcome new goalkeeper Carl, good luck for your debut today and a quick mention to Bob, get well soon , we need the support of All parents.
1st half
Athletic kicked off and passed the ball well in the opening minutes,we were hoping to start off on the front foot as in many games this season we had started a little slowly, not today as after 5 mins Athletic had the lead,Kyle won possession in midfield and released to Louis who in turn slid a pass outside the full back for Connor to latch on to, he showed great pace to burst clear and send in an early cross for Jack to volley home for the first and his 50th goal in a North Shields shirt, very well done Jakk. The pressure from Athletic was non stop and further chances were spurned before goal number 2 came.A long kick from Carl was this time won by Luke who quickly released Jack inside left, one glance and a lovely pass from the striker outside the full back and into the stride of Connor sprinting clear to round the keeper and slot home, 2 - 0. The two Shields strikers giving the home defence all sorts of problems, Jakk was next to test the keeper, when he saw a pin point lob tipped over by the home keeper. At the other end Cramlington showed they could cause problems, but while the back four were their usual reliable self, Josh was playing like a boy possessed and covered every blade along the back line , sweeping up and clearing everything that got past the others. While goals win games and grab the glory, good defending does not go unnoticed by your managers as this is the backbone of any teams success. As the half progressed Shields continued to press and after 18 minutes came goal number three, Connor again played in expertly by Kyle, showed blistering pace to again break clear, round the keeper and score,3-0. And this was the half time score.

2nd Half

Not much changed in the early stages of the second half, Connor continued to cause all sorts of problems and with a little better finishing  Athletic could have had more goals in the opening ten minutes , and at the other end Josh was still continuing to be the dominant defender, the only question Steve and i were asking was who to take off, to get the subs on, thats a good thing lads, please realise that, and when they did get on Kandy,Brad and Ross all slotted in well, Kandy himself nearly getting on the score sheet when shooting firmly over from close range.Goal three came when the home defence, who were looking to hold a much higher line again were beaten by Jakks pace and after a challenge with the goalkeeper the ball ran clear for the striker to tap in for 4-0.Kyle himself then got in on the act, when the home team holding too high a line allowed the midfielder to dance through three challengers and find himself clear to fire home and in off the post from 18 yards out.5-0.Cramlington did pull a goal back when the right winger raced clear to fire strongly into the roof of the net and give the keeper no chance, 5-1.the scoring was not over though as Carl quickly started play with a throw out to Luke who carried and with Connor sitting, not literally, on the shoulder of the last defender, the midfielder sent Connor clear into the box to shoot into the far corner for his hat trick and the sixth goal. The final score then 6-1 to Athletic.

7-2-10 - North Shields Athletic  v  Whitley Bay FC

Back in action today after another blank week, Athletic welcomed a new face in the squad Kandy arriving from Wallsend community, with colleague Scott Coates able to play after todays game.Ross stepping forward today to play in goal and we thank him for that.

1st Half.
On  a big heavy pitch fitness could be the key and we would be looking to play from wide areas and stretch the away defence. The early signs were good with Brad creating a chance for himself only to see the keeper make a good save, and by the end of the report you will be sick of me saying that !! After that a short corner from Louis to Alex the right back swung in a great cross which no Whitley defender could get near but neither did any Athletic attacker attempt to get on the end of it either, much to our dismay. Connor was constantly giving the left back a torrid time but when getting into good shooting areas poor finishing let him down and when the shot was on target the keeper was there to pull off the save. The move of the game came next with 6 seperate players involved, starting with interplay wide right between Abou and Alex then Kyle took possession in the centre and while forced to play back found Josh who switched play well to Brad on the left who then looked up to find Jack on the edge of the area who turned the defender to unleash a shot bound for the roof of the net until again the keeper pulled off a quite superb save to tip over. Great play all round. At the other end Ross in goal was not called upon too much but had to look sharp to save from a free kick just outside the penalty area, and he did collecting comfortably.Inside the last ten minutes Athletic again attacked wide right with Connor taking possession and beating the right back, this time a pin point cross was met by Jack to power a header past the outstretched keeper for 1-0 Athletic.

2nd Half.
The second half was taking pretty much the same pattern as the first with plenty of possession but the end quality was just not there and when the ball found its way to the target the keeper was equal too it Kandy and Luke were introduced and saw plenty of possession especially kandy and showed some promise in a wide left area getting in plenty of crosses. One on the boot of Connor which this time was dispatched well but ruled offside. The rain was coming down and it was noticeable that legs  were tiring but to their credit neither team gave up and tippified by Abou who got in a superb last ditch tackle which was felt on the touchline.the full time whistle blew with the final score 1-0 to Athletic.

Pin Point League Cup round 3       24/1/10
Whitley Bay BC  v  North Shields Athletic

A Happy New Year to all our players and families, i don’t know about you but it’s just nice to be back to playing a game, we have also lost our keeper so are now down to the bare bones, time to send the scouts out..

1st Half
Having played the same team earlier in the season we knew what to expect and I am afraid to say that the same traps were fallen into. A corner after five minutes led to the Whitley Centre Half losing his marker to steal in at the back post and head home unchallenged, 0-1. Thereafter for the next 10 minutes Athletic struggled to get the ball or in fact get near it as the premier division team took control. Yet another corner, although cleared fell to another unmarked player who simply hammered home into the roof of the net.0-2. The third goal came again from a right wing cross not dealt with for a Whitley player to finish from close range and leave the half time score 0-3.

2nd Half
At Half time the message was simple, we had to close the ball down quicker and not allow the home side to get into their stride, we may then be able to create something. The early signs were much more promising with Abou in midfield becoming more involved and breaking up much of the home sides play. This meant Jack and Connor were also being brought more into the game and the two forwards fashioned a chance for Kyle to loop just over the bar. Brad had now come on and straight away looked sharp linking up with Abou in the penalty area, only for the loose ball to just evade Jack and the keeper cleared to safety, At the other end the back four were holding a much higher line and this was helping to push the home side back and Luke in goal was a virtual spectator, having only a couple of half chances to deal with, Brad himself then created a chance for himself and shot just wide. This was an excellent response from Athletic and was just what Steve and i had asked for at half time. The second half as a result had flown over and ended at 3-0 to the home side.

This was the run out the lads needed and with an important training session on Friday to come ahead of the big game v Ashington next Sunday.

NORTH SHIELDS ATHLETIC-v-CORBRIDGE – UNDER 12’S – LEAGUE 3 – 13.12.2009
Score – 3-O
Weather – Cold & Bright
K.O 10.30 Sunday
At last! A game for the lads after an absence of 5 weeks due to appalling recent weather. Today’s opponents were Corbridge who were promoted with us last season so it would be interesting to see how both teams had progressed. Unfortunately my trusted side kick, Gordon, was missing today due to a weekend away. Could we send him some good news!
1st Half
We were badly let down by our goalkeeper today who failed to show, so Luke, who himself was feeling under the weather, helped his teammates out again by going in the “sticks”. North Shields were quickly at their opponents but found a stubborn Corbridge backline repelling our attacks. There was good play down both flanks with Cameron and Brad linking up well as did Alex and Louis. This wing play led to a number of corners being won with Louis delivering some quality balls. Jakk was first to test the keeper with a low shot that the keeper turned around the post. The break eventually came as Louis swung over another corner only for it to be cleared back to him. His first touch enabled him to whip the ball in and ABOU stole in to flick the ball past the keeper to open his account on his debut 1-0. The back four were looking very solid and were not giving the Corbridge forwards a sniff. Kyle and Abou were trying to find the pass to get a second until KYLE thought he would go on a run. Picking the ball up in the centre circle he went past a couple of challenges to find himself in the box, forced wide he managed to trick his way past, I think two more players and find himself at a tight angle. The keeper got his hands to the shot into the far corner but could not stop a very good individual goal that gave us a 2-0 lead. I was telling the lads to keep the pressure on, which they did to gain another goal. Connor’s probing in the channels led to him linking up with Louis who sent over a dangerous ball, Jakk attempted to divert it goalwards but BRAD followed in well to put it away for 3-0. We had taken our chances well but our general play deservedly sent us into half-time with a good lead.
2nd Half
I told the lads they had been brilliant in the first half but the game was not over as Corbridge had some dangerous players. If the attacking play was a joy to watch in the first half Athletic showed the other side was not missing from their game as they defended very well in the second half. As expected, Corbridge pushed us back with their dangerous left winger getting more into the game. However, Alex was sticking to his task well and on the odd occasion he did get past, Jordan was sweeping up well behind him. Athletic were still trying to play forward but our passing was getting sloppy with the forwards unable to hold onto possession. This led to the ball coming back at the North Shields defence but for all this pressure Luke only had a couple of routine saves to make, which he did well. Athletic did create a couple of half chances of their own but the game ended with the score 3-0.
If we can continue to defend this well as a team we will give ourselves a great chance of achieving something this season. It is a while since I have seen our back four play this well but they all put great shifts in today. We have players who can get us goals, as the first half proved but I was delighted we showed resilience to keep a clean sheet and not let Corbridge back in the game. We understandably ran out off steam in the second half with the lads struggling for match fitness but a very good win has set us up nicely for the top of the table clash next week. Weather Permitting!

08/11/09 - Pin point League Cup Round 2
Ryton v North Shields Athletic

1st Half
Today was week three of cup competitions and we were hoping for third time lucky, missing today were Ryan, Brad and new signing Abu. The pitch was full size eleven a side so no excuses for not being able to use the width.Right from the opening minutes it would be clear that the home side would look to play the offside game so breaking from the midfield may be the answer. However the opening goal came from the home side when unusually slack defending allowed the Ryton forward to dance through the challenges and score 0-1. After more offsides , Connor broke from the midfield and while bearing down on goal looked up to see Ross on the edge of the penalty area unmarked and while the keeper advanced slid a pass along the line for Ross to fire into the empty net 1-1.The action was unrelenting with Luke pulling most of the strings in the midfield and it was he who won a tackle in midfield to set Connor clear to shoot into the far corner for 2-1.Great play between Luke and Jakk saw Kyle break next from the oncoming challenge of the keeper only to find the angle narrowing and the shot cannoned of the outside of the post.Ryton themselves always looked capbable of a goal and again after sloppy marking from a throw in allowed the home side to score and make the game level at 2-2.That was not the end of the scoring as Kyle scored a 20 yarder, soaring over the keepers head for 3-2 at half time.

2nd half
With more and more offsides and missed chances from Athletic we were wondering if the score was to remain as it was at half time, however as it looked like Jakks tiny barren spell would continue up he popped to score at the second chance of asking after the keeper had saved the first effort. 4.2.just while things looked safe though again Ryton came back to score after a great save from Paul in goal the rebound was tapped in. 4-3 now.An entertaining game was not finished as the last goal of the game came the way of Athletic when Connor grabbed his second goal of the game, finishing well from the edge of the area for 5-3 and the full time score.
Now for round 3 and surprise surprise more premier league opposition with Whitley Bay again awaiting as the top two divisions join the competition at round 3.

Challenge Cup  1.11.09
North Shields Athletic  v  Newcastle East End

Todays game was in the balance due to incessant rain and strong winds, although the pitch itself was holding up well, the referee allowed the game to proceed after consulting both managers.North Shields were without new keeper Paul and Ross. This match report will not take the usual format of reporting on both halves but a general report on the game itself.East End kicked off with the wind and rain at their backs and like last week Athletic would have to be on their game against premier league opposition and to their immense credit not only matched the opposition ,played some of the best football since the game against Wallsend earlier in the season. As the ball was being knocked about with some superb one twos that belittled the awful conditions both sides had to play in.The first goal came the way of the visitors just before half time with a fierce shot just inside the penalty area giving the keeper no chance 0-1 at half time. In the second half again North Shields gave everything and continued to pass the ball about but could just not create the opening past a very well organised East End defence, and again as the half drew to a close a defence splitting pass led to a cool finish from the visitors to win the game 2-0.You  will notice no mention has been made of any individuals well, that follows next as today was a day for every one to get special mention, as a team we tried to pass got in tackles all over the pitch and it was an absolute joy for your managers. There can be no higher praise to be levelled at these boys for playing as they did in these conditions and for the opposition too.now for that special mention for the Athletic boys.

Luke who went in goal at the last minute whose handling was exemplary and had to stand still in the prevailing conditions while play went on around him.The back four, Connor,Josh,Jordan and Cameron were tigers in the tackle and cool in  possession, starting many a move from the back never looking to lump a ball forward aimlessly, Cameron especially who never missed a tackle covered every blade of grass on the left flank and put in a faultless performance, back to the good old days there Cameron! The midfield of Brad, Louis,Ryan,Alex and Kyle. The engine of the team and boy did they all put in performances Kyle, Ryan and Alex in central positions pressed and forged away all game linking the play between defence and attack and today had any of them fell to their knees their would have been no blame, but they ran their hearts out.In the wide areas Brad and Louis were always available and some of the one twos that Brad instigated drew great applause, and Louis , well i lost count of the amount of 50/50 tackles he won, not something he is renound for but rolled up his sleeves today.Up front Jakk and Nathan worked the channels tirelessly against what was perhaps the strongest part of the opposition, the defence. And never gave up the chase, great effort boys one and all !! Oh and we must not forget the parents, Many thanks for staying to support your lads in the worst conditions i can remember and for running the line Paul doing a greatt job when at times it must have been impossible to look up.The result not important but the effort and skill applied today says everything, back to league action next week and bring it on.

Divisional Cup Quarter Final    25-10-09
Whitley Bay Whites BC  v  North Shields Athletic

Ist Half
On a windy but sunny Sunday morning Athletic travelled to the home of Whitley Bay  Bc from the premier division. Missing today through illness was Kyle and Louis who was away. Jordan won the toss and decided to kick against the wind first half, and the opening exchanges were promising, Brad looking particually sharp on the right of midfield. As expected our opponents were quick all over the pitch and played good football, Athletic were matching them for effort and on 15 minutes earned a free kick 20 yards out which Ryan took and forced the home keeper to turn round the post, pressure was building from the home team though and although Connor and Jordan were coping well in the centre, the inevitable looked on the cards and when some sloppy defending allowed a Whitley player to take possession and the edge of the area, curled a shot over the outstretched hand of Paul in goal, a brave effort from the keeper tough as he got a hand to the ball, but the shot was just too well placed 0-1.Athletic responded well when Jakk combined well on the left with Nathan, who laid off to Luke and his first time shot saved by the keeper. Half time came with a very creditable scoreline from our point of view.

2nd Half
We had all hoped with the wind behind us that we would be able to exert more pressure on the home defence but apart from efforts from Ryan and Luke shots were in short supply, Whitley Bay showing their quality and no mean amount of effort and strength too, as they were quicker to almost every ball, the second goal from the home team coming from excellent play down the right and a pinpoint cross onto the head of the home forward coming in at the back post for a simple chance 0-2.The third came again from a right wing cross that looped over the keeper again for the easiest of chances to tap in for 0-3. Not letting their heads drop to their credit Athletic had what looked like definite penalty claims turned away when Jakk had his ankle tapped from behind. That said though the best team did win on the day. We will have learnt lessons from this match as this is a level Athletic are looking to achieve one day.Good luck Whitley Bay but I hope you don’t mind if I say not too much luck as you face our own Juniors in the semi final.

18-10-09 - NABC League Div 3
Tynemouth Utd  v  North Shields Athletic

1st Half
We welcome today to the squad Paul in goal who takes over from Departed Dan, but lose Jakk to flu, get well soon.Tynemouth won the toss and changed ends too kick with a large slope behind them and within five minutes had the first effort of the game when an uncleared ball out of defence found a home team striker to shoot hard and low into the bottom right but for Paul to fling across to turn around for a corner, a great start for the new keeper, thereafter the half can be best described as scrappy with Athletic struggling to gain any fluency and creating little, neither goalkeeper really being tested half time came with the score goaless.

2nd Half
With a flea in the ear the lads went out with a determined look about them in the second half and it has to be said continued for the rest of the half as traffic was virtual one way, chances being created by Brad who brought not only saves from the keeper but rattled the home woodwork, Kyle and Ryan had now gained control of the midfield and Connors pace now troubling the home side more. Well done today Connor who got off a sick bed and gave his all today, with very little being created from the home team, but the goal just would not come. The minutes passed quickly, pressure came down both flanks and shots were sent over the home bar. The break would not come and although a virtual spectator Paul in the away goal was still called upon late to to parry away a shot from the home team to end the game with a clean sheet with the final score ending 0-0

11/10/09 - Blyth Town 3 - 4 North Shields Athletic

1st Half
For only the second away league game of the season today Athletic travelled to the home of Blyth Town, still reeling from the shock departure of goalkeeper Dan to Whitley Bay to persue the wish to play outfield, good luck Dan.Luke was the one who stepped forward and took on the gloves today, thanks from your managers and teammates. He probably did not expect to be called upon so early, but had to turn away superbly a well struck shot, out for a corner, straight after Blyth then struck the woodwork, we would clearly have our work cut out today, the opposition were strong. We would have to match that and then look to play, this the lads did with Ryan leading the way  from the heart of midfield, after 12 minutes Louis and Connor combined well down the right flank for Connor to cross, Jakk took well with back to goal and laid back to Louis who sent in a rocket which came down off the cross bar and the home linesman flagged to confirm the ball had  comfortably crossed the line.1-0 athletic.Blyth however hit back and from a seemingly impossible angle wide right, when a cross swung in took off in the swirling wind and into the net giving the keeper no chance. 1-1.Connor pushed up front today in Nathans absence was doing well linking with Jakk and causing the home defence some problems and when an innocent back pass found its way to the keeper, connor charging down forced the keeper to miss hit the clearance straight into his path and Connor took full advantage to pass into an empty net for 2-1, an entertaining and competative first half, ended at 2-1.

2nd Half
10 minutes in to the half and the equaliser came from an unchallenged run  through the midfield resulting in a powerful shot low into the corner of the net 2-2.The home sides tails were  up and  the third came when again poor defending allowed the Blyth forward to steal in and fire home for 2-3.The North Shields equalizer came about with Louis having to give back possession, quite rightly, after a stoppage, however the resulting pass to the keeper ended up with the home keeper spilling the ball and it rolling out for a corner, no arguments from the home team or management as no fault of ours, the ball had been given back in time honoured fashion, However the resulting corner was met by Kyle in the box to hammer a volley into the roof of the net for 3-3 the referee  then approached Steve to ask him to ask his players to concede an own goal , afrter explaining to the ref as stated above the game continued. Had the goal been scored from the pass back there would have been no question, but it wasn’t so why should the lads be penalized? 3-3. Then the next controversial moment came when Jakk after taking a great long pass from Alex took one touch fired in a shot that the keeper saved with his foot but seemed to go through the corner of the net and after the referee had a chat with the opposition linesman who would have been unsighted from his angle and could not have been sure to be fair to him, and a corner was awarded, the corner was swung over and Jakk soared highest to power in a header off the keeper into the net for 4-3, the cheers and celebrations now from the away players showed what it meant to them all.The final minutes were played out for a 4-3 win. Togetherness today was the winner for Athletic, a determination and will to win shone throughout the team tippified by Ryan who has received his managers mom award today.

North Shields Athletic v Prudhoe Boys

1st Half
Yet another cup competition today for Athletic with Jordan missing and new Signing Connor given his Shields debut. In Jordans absence Jakk captained the side today, won the toss and decided to change ends. All the early signs were good with Athletic knocking the ball about with confidence, Jakk creating the first opportunity for Nathan to head straight at the keeper, next attack saw Ryan win the first of many tackles today, to pass wide right for Alex who carried and sent Louis in on the edge of the area, this time the cross, again met by Nathan was headed into the net for 1-0.The second goal again began with the same duo of Alex and Louis creating the opening, this time for Kyle to fire home. 2-0.The pressure was incessant so much so I couldn’t write quick enough, but the away goal resembled the bombardment of the Normandy beaches, “that’s from WW2 boys, or Medal of Honour on games consoles” the Prudhoe keeper responsible for keeping the score down, pulling of a number of great saves, after 2 such saves it was Luke who snapped up a rebound to hammer home for 3-0. The midfield four of Luke, Ryan, Louis and then Kyle fashioned a great move although started ant left back with Cameron which brought the save of the half from the keeper to palm away one handed, next up was Nathans turn to fire goalwards, again well saved, Jakk followed in and hooked the rebound back towards Nathan who had followed in to score . 4-0.As half time approached Ahtletic never let up the pressure and although not mentiond yet it has to be said that another factor of the first half was the authority in which the back four handled things, they were not called upon to do much defending but Connor and Josh in the middle were composed and always looked dangerous carrying the ball forward, with Cameron and Alex supporting well in wide areas. As the half drew to a close Louis and Cameron worked a short corner to perfection to set up Kyle lurking just outside the box to fire into the top left of the net for 5-0 at half time.

2nd Half
With the game effectively over as a contest We made a number of positional changes for the second half, one of which was to bring Dan outfield after 10 minutes with Kyle going in goal. That did not seem to affect the rhythm too much, as with all great players these lads are comfortable in more than one position, Ryan again carrying well in midfield slid in Jack to score the goal his build up play today had deserved for 6-0, Connor then scoring a debut goal in another move started from right back with Alex, then Brad and Nathan, who laid into the path for the incoming Connor to shoot low and in the corner.7-0.for the last goal Ryan and Josh combined to set Dan free who showed his prowess in front of goal to hit home for 8-0 and the final scorebook .There was also the matter of a disallowed goal from Ryan I mention this as he hasn’t scored for 3 years and the look on the lads face when he looked up to see the flag raised high was a picture and the pleas to the ref I am sure nearly had him change his mind, keep trying Ryan. A comfortable win but what pleased your managers was that you lads continued to pass and play on the ground and maintain a discipline especially with many positional changes.Whos next!!

1st Half
League action today for Athletic against the opposition from Red House, with Craig having left to persue Ice Hockey and we wish him well with thanks for all his efforts for Athletic and Jordan sunning himself in Turkey, the team were down to 12.Not to worry as we had been there before. 10 minutes in and the first real attack from Athletic saw kyle pick up a ball on the edge of the 18yard box from a left wing corner, then preceded to beat 2 defenders and hammer home from just inside the penalty area. 1-0. 5 minutes later and the score was 2-0 this time great left wing play from Luke ended with a cross into the penalty area which Louis pounced on to fire home over the keepers outstretched hand.surprisingly Jakk had not got in on the act as yet but did force the keeper into a good save, turning over a powerful shot, Nathan too then going close when shooting just wide from an acute angle, with all that pressure Athletic were good for their lead, but from a momentary drop in concentration allowed a break from midfield to go unchallenged, and while Dan raced out to collect, the Red House forward just got in ahead of the keeper to nip the ball clear and pass into an empty net for 2-1 and the half time score.

2nd Half
With the goal conceded just before half time, the away side came out for the second half all fired up and nearly created a chance straight from the kick off, but poor control led to the ball running through to Dan, Athletic then forced a string of corners which unfortunately led to little , however from a goal kick, jakk picked up a poor kick and looked up and fired towards goal, the ball just looped over and over and over the keepers head into the net, some say luck , i say great ball striking. 3-1 Athletic.Kyle then fashioned a chance for Nathan, who again saw the keeper in his way. At the other end The Back four remained strong and when they were breached Dan was there, pulling of a great one handed save to keep the score at 3-1.from there on Athletic played the game out comfortably to win 3-1.

20-9-09 - NABC Cubs Cup
North Shields Athletic v Wallsend boys club

1st half
Cup action for Athletic on a lovely sunny day against the early pace setters from division 2,Craig was missing with a knee injury and Josh was away for the weekend, a little reshuffling meant Alex moving into midfield and Brad again playing at right back. The first ten minutes were fairly even although the visitors looked particularly strong down the right flank, and it was there the opening goal came when Athletic were unable to put in a tackle which allowed the wallsend forward to advance into the box and shoot low and wide of Dan into the corner for 0-1.Athletic responded well and Luke went close from a Louis corner, heading into the side netting, and then the same player, Luke, sending in a shot from all of 20/25 yards which the keeper must have seen late and reacted to tip onto the bar and away to safety. A good end to the half and much of the same would be needed after half time to pull the game around.

2nd Half
At half time much of our instructions to the lads, was not to be fearful of the name of the opponents, on their day these lads can be every bit as good as our illustriously named opponents and we wanted them to go out and prove it.Right from the kick off great interplay between Alex, Kyle and jakk resulted in a cross to Nathan whose shot was again well saved by the wallsend keeper and away for a corner, thereafter it has to be said all the best football was played by the home side, as the lads strived for the equaliser, good movement, slick passing the will to win every ball was all there bar the end result, a goal.Luke had efforts saved, Louis had a great header sail just wide , that goal just would not come, the away side restricted to token attacks and when they did break through on one occasion saw the imposing dan in the way, resulting in the shot being pulled wide.At the other end bad line decisions and blatant free kicks not given in dangerous positions for the home side were now conspiring to make us all feel, “not our day ?” and that was how it stayed at full time 1-0 to the visitors.

A special mention now be given to the 12 Athletic players who took part today, when after the first 20 minutes or so deserved better out of the game, the referees words not just ours,in our opinion the football played around the pitch from the back four to the midfield and up front was exceptional, some of the passing and movement was a joy to watch and from the management perspective of Steve and i, this meant even more than the result, honest!! A win would have just been icing on the cake, the phrase “the performance was more important than the result” was never more evident than today .

13/9/09 - NABC DIV
Montagu and Fenham v North Shields Athletic

1st Half
Again Athletic were at full strength today and the management looked to put Thursdays result behind them, although a draw its a sign of the high regard that this squad is held in that Steve and I felt a little disappointed in the end result, but not the effort put in.On a very short pitch it was evident from early in the game that the home team would look to long throwins and long balls to put us under pressure, with a large downhill slope behind them too.Generally the lads handled this well and always looked like the likely side to score first, when both Ross and then Jakk saw goalbound efforts crash back off the crossbar and away to safety.and then Jakk headed just wide from a cross from Kyle. Was this a sign of things to come ? well yes ,as with 20 minutes on the clock another long ball from the home teams defence bypassed the Athletic defence and a montagu forward reacted first to fire home for 0-1.Right from the kick off the scores were level though when an impressive Louis broke free of his marker sped into the box and laid a perfect ball into Jakk for the easiest of chances to equalise 1-1. For the half time score.

2nd Half
With a couple of tactical changes for the second half Athletic were looking to up the passing game and attack from wider areas.the response was almost immediate as early pressure came down the left flank as Cameron took a quick throw to Luke who turned impressively inside two defenders into the box to shoot low past the outstretched keepers hand for 2-1.Luke again was pivotal in the third goal for Athletic, when he received a ball wide right there seemed little danger, but as Cameron again overlapped Luke initiated a cheeky backheel while facing his own goal which nutmegged the defender , Cameron collected and whipped in the cross and again Jakk met to sweep home for 3-1.The attacks did not subside when next a blockbuster of an effort from Kyle brought a magnificent save from the keeper, to turn away.Next Craig got in on the act when Nathan held the ball up for him to send in a shot which again struck the bar for the third time this afternoon. With time running out a long ball out of the Athletic half saw Louis collect and break clear, as he looked up to see the keeper advancing curled a lovely shot up and over and into the net for the fourth and final goal of the game. 4-1 Athletic. This was an emphatic win that perhaps did not look to likely at one stage , but with a little more luck would have been a double figure score, well done.

10/9/09 - North Shields Athletic v Wallsend Community

1st Half
For the first time this evening Athletic had their full squad available for the second league game of the season.Wallsend kicked off and it was clear from the early exchanges that this was going to be a difficult team to break down, as always there was plenty of effort from the boys but that final pass just wasn’t there, many intercepted from the opposition at the crucial moment, a point that has not gone unnoticed by the managers. Clearly the step up in division means most opposition we come up against are likely to be quicker in all areas and we are going to have to match them, and we will. The game ebbed and flowed but with few chances created, again the best way through seemed to be in the wide areas.this was where the opening goal came from, with Nathan holding up the ball well to send Louis in wide right, again the cross was pin point for Jakk to storm in and slot home for 1-0 to Athletic.that was how the score remained until half time.

2nd Half
The second half can be best described as a carbon copy of the first, with chances at a premium, Athletics best chance coming from a very similar move to that of the goal, with Ryan and Nathan again creating a chance for Louis to cross deep for Luke coming in at the back post, only to see his effort cleared off the line and away to safety.Mid way through the half came the Wallsend equaliser, this time from the penalty spot after a disputed decision from the home team.1-1 and this was the final score. The game best summed up in the comments from the first half.and perhaps a reality check required.

NABC Divisional Cup 6-9-09
North Shields Athletic v Tynemouth Yellows

1st Half
For the second fixture within a week between the same 2 sides Athletic were down to the bare bones with Alex having to pull out on the morning due to illness.Tynemouth won the toss and kicked off, however Athletic won the ball straight back and a ball played into the feet of Ross was well held up awaiting the run of Louis on the overlap wide right, the pass enabled Louis not to break stride nor have to take a touch as the cross was whipped in for Jakk to rise majestically and head home, 1-0.the football was flowing down both flanks, next was the turn of Josh to carry well out of defence, he sprayed the ball to Luke on the wing this time spotted jakk on the edge of the box and he laid up Ross who flicked the ball over the keeper and just as the ball was about to cross the line a defender came from nowhere to clear acrobatically off the line. After 25 minutes the home pressure told again when great interplay between Luke and Jakk saw Kyle ghost in from midfield jakk had spotted the run and played a ball in for Kyle to crash home from the edge of the box for the home side to go in 2-0 at half time.

2nd Half
Just as in the first half Athletic came out the blocks very quickly, with Luke breaking down the left wing, again to send in a great cross that the away defence couldn’t deal with and was deflected into their own goal to make the score 3-0.Tynemouth to their credit came back and pulled a goal back albeit with the assistance of 3 players in offside positions a factor which was also confirmed by the camera of the away teams photographer.never mind 3-1 the score. With tails up the next chance fell the way of Tynemouth too as a shot was sent just wide after a slight mix up in the home defence. That was that however.Athletics fourth began with the impressive Brad intercepting a defensive clearance to send in Louis who yet again did not need to break stride and crossed for guess who. Yes Jakk to rise and head home for 4-1.the last and fifth goal came when Ryan who again impressed in midfield took possession and looked up to see Ross on the shoulder of the last defender sent a soaring ball over the defender for the Athletic striker to take the ball in his stride and fire home from the edge of the box for 5-1 and the final score. Some great wing play today from Louis and Luke paved the way for the win and much to look forward to this season.

North Shields Athletic v Tynemouth Yellows

As certain as day turns to night and bread and jam always falls jam side down another football season begins tonight. After a well deserved promotion the boys would now ply their trade in division 3 and too that squad we welcome new players Dan , Luke and Ryan all signings from division 1 outfits. We had to say goodbye to Dan who has been elevated to our first team, well done and good luck and Callum who has joined dad Simon in the Lisbon team to bolster their defence and Liam whom we wish good luck and good health..

1st Half
Captaining the side tonight and now nominated as team captain Jordan won the toss and kicked off. As with most derby games this was no different as any cohesion from both teams was hard to find but effort could not be faulted, what passing existed however, did come from Athletic and midway through the first half, new boy Ryan won the first of many tackles in midfield, and came away with the ball, Jakk was sitting on the shoulder of the right back, Ryan spotted that and sent a pass inside the full back and with the keeper advancing Jakk lifted the ball over the keeper and into the net for 1-0.Tynemouth themselves were full of endeavour and the home defence had to be on their toes to thwart the visitors, although having a relatively quiet half Dan in goal for Athletic was called into action as the half drew to a close tipping over a superb shot that was bound for the top corner. The first half ended at 1-0.

2nd Half
The message at half time was for the effort to continue but to try and get the ball down and play more football, together with improving on one or two defensive matters. All as we will see were carried out to perfection,Firstly the defence of Ross,Jordan,Josh and Alex let nothing through, so much that Dan in goal was a virtual spectator.next the midfield won just about everything to the continuing frustration of the opposition and this allowed the ball to be passed about and chances carved out for the home team.10 minutes in and a left side throw taken by Luke to Ross up in support, took the ball inside and passed to Kyle on the edge of the box, he carried to just inside the penalty area and unleashed a shot that sailed over the keepers head and into the net for 2-0.Luke himself was finding plenty of space on the left and from one of his corners Jakk pulled away from his marker to fire home into the bottom left of the goal for 3-0. Craig had now entered the game and it was he who perservered, winning two tackles to see Cameron pick up the ball and with no danger looking imminent cut inside the full back sprinted into the right side of the box and fired home again giving the keeper no chance for 4-0.the shooting from the home team tonight had been of the highest order. That was not the end of the scoring as almost straight after Tynemouth kicked off Athletic won possession and from a long clearance Jakk again was first to react and nipped in ahead of the keeper to score for 5-0.that was the final goal of the evening, and a great start to the new season. Well played boys.
