It was the last game of the season, and there was still a lot to play for. Despite the recent good weather, the match kicked off in thick fog and a biting cold wind. The Vultures kicked off and were quickly on the back foot. Several attempts to clear the ball were unsuccesful and Shaun eventually tipped the ball round for a corner. The lads started to find their footing in the game and Nathan was making good progress down the right and Butter down the left was also having some sucess. Despite this, the lads were`nt playing with their normal fluency and assurance and had to call upon Andrew and the ever reliable Connor on several occasions to clear up at the back. The 2nd quarter brought a bit more joy, with the introduction of Leeam and Matty, both caused problems for Cramlington, but it was the same old story for Vultures, they just could`nt find the killer pass or finish to break the deadlock. Dylan went on a strong run, but did`nt find Leeam when a certain goal beckoned. Smithy had a shot on target that was blocked, and Butter could`nt reach the loose ball in time. Cramlinton also pushed for a goal but the defence were always in command, and the rare time they did get past,Shaun was straight out to smother any  trouble. The 3rd and 4th quarters were much the same, two evenly matched teams pushing for a goal, but unable to get the decisive goal. Matty had a chance after great play from Leeam and Dylan but shot just wide. Nathan and Dylan created a chance for Leeam but he was closed down quickly. Smith got a great block in at the other end to prevent Towns striker from grabbing the opener. With only seconds left of the game, good work for Dylan and then Nathan seen Leeam steaming down the right flank, he cut in and from a tight angle, a cross or shot may have seen the winner, but as he cut inside, the defender just managed to get a foot in and the chance was gone. The referree  blew straight after, to bring to an and a great game between 2 evenly matched teams. The Vultures did`nt play to their full potential  in this game, but can still boast the best defensive record in the league, and if only they had an Alan Shearer or Didier Drogba to put the ball in the back of the net, then who knows what they could have achieved.

Vultures came into this game on the back of two very good performances if not results. we were looking for that same level of performance today and we got it from every single player.

The first quarter was an even affair with both teams attacking strongly but defending well. Connor and Andrew made several good interceptions and Shaun's handling in goal was secure. More importantly Shaun was directing the defence and this meant that Spartans were kept at bay.Shaun made  two good saves from long range  efforts. On the attacking front Vultures were strong, with Leeam breaking through on two occasions but the ball ran away from him on the rock hard pitch. A couple well struck corners from Leeam led to shots from Smithy and Dylan. Nathan made a couple of his usual forays down the right but Dylan's shots from his crosses just missed the post.
Vultures had the better of the second quarter with shots and crosses form Nathan, and Butter hitting the target on several occasions. Andrew had a couple of long range shots just off target. Shaun had to rush off his line to save once but otherwise it was quiet for the defence. More shots from Smithy and Matty were saved and it looked like a fruitless day in front of goal for the Vultures.
The third quarter again saw the Vultures piling on the pressure but Spartans were dangerous on the break. Andrew made a great saving tackle and then Connor and Shaun combined to clear another break. From a goal kick by Connor the ball ran through and Ciaran drew the keeper and finished beautifully. One up and the Vultures attacked again. Shots from Leeam, Butter and Smithy were cleared but from another goalmouth scramble Smithy finished well with the outside of his right boot. Vultures ended the quarter 2-0 up.
Spartans came out for the final period all fired up and applied pressure to the Vultures defence. They quickly got one back from a free kick which Vultures failed to clear. Still the attacks came and clearances by Connor, Butter, Andrew and Smithy preserved the lead. Spartans tired and Vultures took over control of the game. A succession of corners expertly put in by Nathan led to Matty  heading narrowly wide, Dylan heading over, Butter volleying narrowly wide and Dylan again shooting but the goalkeeper saving. Dylan then was involved in a collision with the goalkeeper when he bravely went for a 50/50 ball but he got up to lay on. In spite of the 20 minute quarter Vultures finished on the attack and ran out comfortable winners. At last the result that the performances deserve.

This  match report could be written the same as the last few. Vultures had all the play, created all the chances, defended very well, passed the ball well, played great football, but ended up getting beat  by a couple of sucker punches. It was a fine Sunday morning, the sun was shining and the lads seemed up for it. The 1st quarter was a tight contest, with Vultures shading it. Dylan was on fire with his trademark runs from midfield and missed narrowly with a first time effort after a great run and cross from Nathan. Connor and Andrew yet again stood up to everything in defence, giving nothing away, and with Matty in goal behind them everything was looking good. Ciaran Butter was attacking at will down the left, and having some success but without the killer pass or shot coming. The 2nd quarter was much the same, with the introduction of Leeam and a bit of a breeze in their favour, a goal was`nt far away! Smithy went on a great run, carrying the ball out of defence and beating 3 players down the left before putting the cross in, unfortunately, the oncoming Nathan and Butter were unable to reach it. Whitley rarely threatened, because of the strong defence and hard working midfield, but when they did Matty was more than equal to it. A succession of corners expertly whipped in from Leeam still could`nt create the opening that all involved craved for. The 3rd quarter finally seen the deadlock broken. Smithy got the goal but unluckily it was in the wrong net. A great run from the Whitley forward ended with a cross come shot and as  Smithy was running into clear it, it rebounded off the post and back against Smithy and into the net. 1-0 down and the lads really didn't deserve it. The lads really pushed forward to get the equaliser, but some good stops from the Whitley keeper and some  inadequate finishing meant they were still a goal for the worse going into the last quarter. Shaun launched a huge kick after making a smart stop in the last quarter, the ball fell into Matty`s path but he was unable to get his shot away. The 2nd sucker punch landed not long after, with the Vultures pushing for the equaliser, they got caught at the back. Whitley broke in numbers and had 3 onto1, the ball was played out to the right and the forward made no mistake from 6 yards out, despite Shaun`s best attempts. A few more attacks from the Vultures did`nt really create any chances or bother the Whitley goal. Another frustrating game for the lads, despite their superiority throughout the entire match. Well done to Andrew, Matty, Connor, Butter, Smithy,Shaun, Leeam,Nathan and Man of the Match, Dylan....for battling onto the end.

This was the 2nd time the Vultures had played Blyth within the space of seven days. After last weeks narrow victory, the lads knew what they had to do against a well organised team. They started off on fire, with Nathan making strong runs down the right flank, and Dylan making his trademark runs in midfield, but no end product. Matty was playing on the left today, after deputising in goal the last few matches, and was using the ball sensibly and passing well, creating a chance for Nathan that was unable to be finished, with the huge Blyth keeper saving well. This was very much like other games this season, the Vultures on top but unable to take their chances. Andrew and Connor were rarely tested at the back but when Blyth did venture into the Vultures half they were comfortably in command. Shaun had nothing to do in goal apart from the odd goal kick and clearance to make. A free kick from Smithy had the keeper at full stretch, with Dylan following up, but unable to get their before the defender. Surely it was only a matter of time before the Vultures got the goal their dominance deserved. Matty found himself in a great position but seemed caught in two minds, whether to shoot or cross? A cross/shot was gathered by the keeper, with Dylan ready to pounce. A sweeping  move started from Matty who intelligently, played Dylan in, a quick touch to Smithy, whom then sent Nathan scampering away down the right, a shot from Nathan was`nt the most powerful, but the keeper was unable to keep hold of it, it slipped through his legs and against the post and away. Dylan was following up, but from a tight angle was only able to hit the post again! Whilst Matty was off having a breather his hard work deserved, Leeam was filling in his position, with some good work and sensible positional play, to stop the nippy winger from Blyth marauding forward. Attack after attack from the Vultures, but that elusive goal just wouldn't come. If this had been a boxing match, the referee would have stopped long ago. As long as it was 0-0 either team could nick a goal. Blyth on a rare attack, swooped to get the goal, that proved to be the winner. A corner was swung in and after a bit of a scramble, Shaun pushed it onto the bar, and as it dropped the Blyth player nodded in despite the attempts of Matty to keep it out. Still the Vultures had chances, Leeam played Smithy in with a superb through ball but the defender nicked it away when Smithy was about to pull the trigger. With 2 minutes left, great passing and movement from the lads found Andrew in a one on one with the keeper, he smashed a shot that left the keeper totally beaten, but unfortunately, the bar was in the way! The ref blew for full time not long after, to leave the lads very disappointed after a game that they dominated and should have won by a large scoreline. Training will no doubt be shooting practice again this week.

27th March 2011  Morpeth Predators 3  North Shields Vultures 0

Team: Shaun Brown; Matty McKenna; Andrew Gibson; Connor Abraham; Kieron Smith; Leeam Davis;  Nathan Johnston: Dylan Henderson, Ciaran Butterworth.
This match was very much even stevens for the first  quarter with few chances and defences very much in the ascendancy. Predators managed to score with a high ball into the box that Vultures failed to deal with and the ball was whacked into the net. Nathan got several crosses into the box but these were snuffed out before Dylan Kieron or Ciaran could get on the end of them.
Second quarter saw Vultures attack in search of the equaliser. Nathan shot but it was saved and from the rebound Leeam put a difficult chance just past the post. Dylan had a great shot that the keeper made an unbelievable save from and Smithy was just wide with another shot. Predators are a good team and broke with speed  - Matty had to rush from his goal twice to deny the breaking forwards. A tremendous quarter from Vultures but  no goals.
Predators dominated the third quarter and Vultures normally tenacious tackling fell away a bit. Shaun made several good saves but was helpless to prevent a second goal as poor marking from a corner gave a Morpeth forward a free hit and he made no mistake.
In the fourth quarter Vultures were back on form and went on all out attack. Leeam was through on a couple occasions but the ball wouldn't sit up for him and the keeper saved. At the end Predators broke away and got a third but the scoreline was harsh on the Vultures.
A tough game but  a good performance.

26-3-2011 - Blyth Rangers Valencia 0 North Shields Vultures 1

The Team: Shaun Brown, Matthew McKenna, Nathan Johnston, Kieron Smith, Leeam Davis, Dylan Henderson, Ciaran Butterworth, Connor Abraham

Both teams had been scoring plenty of goals in recent games, so a goal festival was on the cards, or was it? Vultures started today's game with Matty in goal, and with the ever reliable Andrew missing in defence, Smithy slotted into his position. The 1st quarter was a closely fought affair with neither team creating any clear cut chances, but Butter was causing loads of problems for the defence with his blistering pace. Dylan and Leeam in the centre of the park were bossing the midfield and Nathan on the right carried on where he had left off in the last game, up and down the right flank causing problems for the defender. The team were sent out in the 2nd quarter unchanged due to the match being so evenly balanced. Connor and Smithy quickly formed a great understanding at the back and  cleared most attacks. When called upon Matty was assured with his handling and kicking and along with Smithy and Connor a great defensive understanding was being formed. Butter at this stage was terrorising the Blyth defence and creating chances for Dylan and himself, the giant Blyth keeper was equal to them though.Leeam had been putting some great corners and crosses in, one of them found Dylan's head, but it went agonisingly wide. Still 0-0 and into the 3rd quarter before the deadlock was broken, a long ball caught the Blyth defence out, and Butter didnt need asking twice to have a shot,he didnt disappoint with a great finish into the bottom left corner. A bit of confusion arose as the ball had went through a hole in the net and out the back, but the referee correctly gave the goal. There was`nt any wild celebrations because of the confusion, but the lads just got back into position and got on with the job professionally. Matty hadnt had much to do, but had done it well, until the Blyth forward managed to escape the challenges of the defence, he looked up and hit a hard shot to Matty`s left. Matty through himself to the bottom corner and tipped the ball around for a corner, in what was a match winning save. The 4th quarter was going to be a hard one, against the strong breeze. The Blyth keeper used this to his advantage with some huge kicks, but the trio of Smithy, Connor and Matty kept chances at a minimum. The referee gave the advantage to Butter when he was through on goal despite the defender trying to pull Butter`s shirt off, a penalty was the easy choice, but he decided to play the advantage to the management`s bemusement! It was a similar decision when the Vultures had 4 onto 2, with Nathan about to pull the trigger he blew for an injury to a Blyth player, and the Vultures had to give the ball back to the Blyth keeper! As Homer Simpson would say "DOH". The Vultures hung on to the one goal lead, and won the 3 points that they deserved, in what was a very good professional performance, where everyone of those players deserved Man of the Match. Great performance lads, keep it up!

After yesterdays frustrating match where we had all of the match but ended up getting beaten, we were hoping to take our chances today against an improving Bedlington team. The first 5 minutes were a repeat of the day before with chances created but not put away. Nathan was beating players don the right and getting crosses in but no one was applying the finishing touch. Just when it looked like a repeat of the previous day Nathan got into the box himself and put away a low shot into the corner. That goal settled nerves and from another Nathan shot that was beaten away by the goal keeper Andrew( in a rare outing in midfield) buried the ball in the net. 2-0 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter was a strong one from Vultures. Connor was winning everything in defence leaving Matty with lite to do in goal. Vultures attacked and Smithy scored a beautiful shot into the top corner from the angle of the box. Again Vultures attacked and Nathan was getting down the right where he got taken out. From the free kick Smithy had a shot which bobbled around the box but Dylan was on hand to finish well.  Nathan continued to beat players down the right and from one run he cut inside and shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corer of the net.. Smithy and Dylan were doing on the left what Nathan was on the right and from their next attack Smithy shot and the ball ballooned off a defender and Dylan headed powerfully into the net from eight yards. Having got the taste for heading Dylan was just off target with another header from a Smithy corner. 6-0 at half time.
The third quarter saw Vultures on the attack with Leeam taking up some good positions and getting some shots on target but the goalkeeper was up to the challenge. A further goal came when Dylan's long throw evaded everyone and Nathan coming from the right smacked the ball into the net. Connor went up front and was unlucky to see a shot go wide. Then came maybe the pick of the goals.
Matty in goal took a goal kick and found Nathan on the halfway line. He took the ball down the line past three players and crossed from the byline for Ciaran running to flick the ball into the net.
The fourth Quarter saw a few changes with Andrew going in goal and performing well. Matty was in  midfield and Connor up front so the players had to get used to the new formation. Leeam was finding space and put a  good ball into the box. From the resultant scramble Ciaran poked home. The scoring was finished off when Dylan ran through middle and finished classily in the corner.
A second strong performance in two days and this time we were able to find the net.

It was 3 long weeks since the Vultures last played due to the weather and postponed games. They started the game well, pushing back the Bay midfield and defence and creating a few half chances that wernt put away.  This was to become the main feature of this game, because throughout the whole game, chances were created and missed by the Vultures. Nathan cracked a shot against the angle of the goal in the 1st five minutes. Shaun was on form the 1st quarter, making some good saves but could do nothing about the opener for Whitley, the ball was`nt cleared after a couple of opportunities and the Bay forward struck a good shot into the corner of the net. Nathan and Smithy were commanding in midfield and along with Andrew and M.O.M Connor, kept Bay to a limited amount of chances. Dylan was making his trademark strong runs through the middle, but without finding a breakthrough. Butter and Leeam both had chances to equalise but were off target. Two quick goals were conceded due to sloppy defending, one from a corner that somehow found away through the defence, and another due to total lack of marking goal side from a throw-in. The 3rd and 4th quarters were all about the Vultures pushing forward for a couple of goals. Again chances were made and not taken, and unluckily got caught on the break. Shaun let the ball slip from his hands after making the save, but was unable to react quick enough to stop the follow up shot. 4-0 to Whitley and yet they didn't deserve a margin like that. The Bay keeper was in great form, but hadnt really been tested, with the Vultures lacking accuracy and precision from their shots. Matty replaced Shaun in goal for the last quarter and was assured in his handling and vocal with his defence but was rarely tested, this was due to the constant pushing forward from the Vultures. Leeam and Dylan both should have scored in the last quarter, but it wasnt to be. A very frustrating game for the players, supporters and management, and they will have to pick themselves up for the very busy run in towards the end of the season, and practice finishing/shooting in training.

It had been 4 long weeks since the Vultures last game, and they hoped to pick up from where they left off, after that great win against Morpeth. The Vultures were dealt a blow when Shaun, the Vultures keeper wasn't present.. The first quarter was a cagey affair, with the Vultures having chances but also looking very rusty, due to the lack of games. Matty in goal had been injured early making a good stop from the forward, but was able to carry on. Connor and Andrew were playing with their normal assurance, the midfield were working hard but without their normal fluency, discipline and professionalism. Dylan had made some great strong runs and got taken out cynically on more than one occasion, from one of the resulting free kicks, Smithy was unable to hit the back of the net, but the Vultures kept on plugging away.
The 2nd quarter seen the Vultures fall behind to a goal that took a slight deflection off Butter. After this the lads didn't seem able to gain possession or  control of the game . Matty in goal made another great save and yet again injured his hand, but bravely carried on.
Leeam had a good chance in the 3rd quarter but could only poke the ball straight at the untested Cramlington keeper, as the Vultures pushed for the equaliser but the Blues defence held firm.
The 4th quarter seen the Vultures push for that elusive goal, but it was Cramlington that hit North Shields on the break. After good work from Butter and Nathan down the left wing, Nathan was unable to get the challenge in and the Blues defender pushed the ball forward and unleashed an unstoppable shot that Matty was unable to keep out . Vultures still pushed for a goal or two, and Leeam and Nathan both had shots saved easily from the keeper. This was a performance that lacked fluency , and the lads  will have to pick themselves back up for the next games.

This game was won today because of one thing. Hard work! This added to the undoubted skill of the players and good organisation made this performance a joy to behold. The Vultures were dealt a blow before kick off when the keeper Shaun was ruled out because of illness. Matty was drafted in to goal and was more than an able deputy. The lads knew what they had to do to beat a strong Morpeth team, which  had beaten the Vultures convincingly twice before Xmas, one of those times by a large scoreline.
Vultures kicked off the game, going into the tackle strong and keeping Morpeth at bay, with some great challenges from Connor and Andrew(who had crawled off his sickbed to play). The midfield of Smithy, Butter, Nathan and Dylan were fast in the challenge and didn't give the Morpeth player anytime on the ball. It wasnt all Morpeth though, Vultures were creating chances of their own, with Butter`s pace and Smithys eye for a through ball nearly creating openings for Dylan. Vultures won two corners in a row and from the second of these Connor hit a piledriver shot from which the goalkeeper made a brilliant save. The quarter ended all square.
The next quarter saw the introduction of Leeam and a big difference he made to the game. It was similar to the last quarter, with both teams evenly matched. A little lapse in defence allowed the nippy Morpeth forward to get a cross/shot into the box, unfortunately it took a cruel deflection off Andrew and through the legs of the unsighted Matty in goal. Vultures created more chances with Leeam down the right and Butter down the left and Smithy controlling the centre of the park and using the ball well to create openings for Dylan, who had the defence beaten but couldn't find the finish. Morpeth had a chance with a free kick, but Matty and the defence were equal to it. Just before the end of the quarter Morpeth broke through but Matty came off his line well to force the forward wide .The forward got his shot away but Connor rushed back to clear off the line and Smithy tidied up.
The third quarter was the turning point of the game, Vultures pushed and pushed for a goal without giving up their defensive duties. Ciaran was giving the Morpeth defence all sorts of problems with his touch and pace. A goal  duly came from Leeam who undoubtedly was having having his best game yet for the Vultures. Constant chasing from him made the defender make a mistake and as the Morpeth keeper went to collect the ball, Leeam toe poked it past him to much delight on the sidelines. There was more to come, five minutes later, again after great closing down from the Vultures, Andrew won the ball and sent a deep cross in from the left, Leeam held it up for  Dylan to run on to and he smashed it first time past the keeper to give the Vultures the lead. The whistle blew and the Vultures went in to the break full of themselves, but were told to concentrate because the game hadn't been won yet.
The last quarter was what the management expected, Morpeth threw everything at the Vultures to get the equaliser. Matty stood firm in goal, and the excellent Connor and Andrew were stopping most things. Of course Morpeth had a few shots at goal that just went wide. This had everyone worried that they would get the equaliser, and along with an injury to Smithy and then Nathan in the last few minutes didn't help the heart rate of everyone involved. The referee blew his whistle to everyone`s delight, apart from Angela, who thought we had drew the game! This game was the best they have played(up to now) and as a team should be very proud of what they have achieved, a 100% team effort. No primadonna`s, no player who thinks he`s better than anyone else, or better than the team, just 9 lads who have given everything in the six months that they have been together. WELL DONE........It has also given the management a lot of satisfaction.....

The Team were in good spirits for today's game after yesterdays performance( if not result). Andrew had fortunately recovered from his ankle injury and was able to take his place in defence.
Again the pitch was heavy but Vultures went on the attack from the start. Nathan had a shot that was beaten by the keeper and Dylan ran through almost the entire Bedlington team but put his shot wide. Then Smithy got to the byline and put in a super low cross to which Ciaran applied a deft finish. The goal relaxed the team ( and management and supporters) and Vultures continued to press.Bedlington however broke away and almost equalised but a fine low save from Shaun saw the ball to safety. Bedlington were now more in the game but Vultures were still making chances. Nathan and Smithy both shot wide and Andrew coming from the back had one tipped over the bar by the keeper. Connor was marshalling the defence well, wining every ball and passing out to the wings to start attacks. Form one of Connors passes the ball was taken by Nathan who threaded the ball through to Ciaran who again finished well. 2-0 at the end of the quarter .
The second quarter saw a more even contest. Leeam however was finding room on the right and got down  the wing time after time , putting in shots and crosses which unfortunately didn't go in. Matty was again holding the ball well and bringing his teammates into play. Vultures finally got a third when a Smithy corner dropped to Dylan who whacked the ball into the net.
The third quarter saw the Vultures on the attack with Bedlington dangerous on the breakaway. Connor and Andrew, supported by Nathan had to put in a lot of tackles and do a lot of running to protect the lead.  Dylan was still making strong forward runs and at the end of one of these he put the ball in the box where Matty finished well into the corner of the net. Nathan was desperate to get on the score sheet and had one shot that hit the goalkeepers head and another saved on the line. Shaun then made another diving save to stop Bedlington getting back in the game. The final quarter saw Vultures apply pressure. Dylan ran out of defence again put the ball in the box and again Matty finished well. Then a Smithy shot rebounded to Leeam who put the ball away beautifully. Leeam was still charging down the right and put in a great cross which Smithy finished well.
This was a good performance by every single player - a clean sheet and finally a few goals.

Vultures finally got to play this postponed Shield match on a sticky pitch which didn't help either team. Vultures started well, competing for every ball and passing well down the wings. Andrew and Connor were strong in defence and Matty was having a great game , holding the ball up and bringing others into play. This relieved the pressure against a team from 4 divisions higher. Coast finally scored just before the end of the quarter but Ciaran had a chance to equalise but the keeper saved well.
The management were rotating the team as much as Rafa bearing the heavy pitch and that we had a match the following day. Matty still controlled the middle of the park and Leeam made some strong runs down the wings and had several chances. Smithy and Dylan were strong in midfield . Coast scored again but at 2-0 at half time Vultures were still in the game.
But all that hard work was taking it toll and as the Vultures tired Coast nicked a few more. Andrew twisted an ankle and Nathan had to fill in in defence where he did a great job tackling and heading the ball clear.
Towards the end of the game the Vultures found a second wind and went on the attack. Leeam played a fantastic ball through to Ciaran who finished well. The Vultures attacked to the end of the game. This left a few gaps and Coast scored again. But the Vultures played well in this game, tackling and passing and working as a team. Hopefully this will set us up for a  game tomorrow on our own league.

The Lads kicked off this game, having not played a game since late November. It was a heavy pitch, and a strong wind was blowing towards Shauns goal in the 1st quarter, as captain for the day Ciaran won the toss and opted to stay where they were. The 1st quarter was a closely contested affair, with both teams giving little away, however the Blyth keeper was the busier of the two keepers, making one great save from a thunderbolt of a shot from Andrew. Connor and Andrew were coping well at the back, but this was only because the midfield of Smithy, Dylan and Nathan working very hard in front of them. Matty came on in the second quarter and made a huge difference to the team, as he was sensibly holding the ball up and playing it to teammates, putting into practice what had been done in training the previous few weeks. With the wind in the Vultures favour, they quickly made Blyth pay with two well taken goals. The first was a belter from Smithy, he caught the ball on the half volley after chipping it up, just outside the box, and it sailed over the Blyth keepers head. The second was a well worked goal, good play outside the box from Nathan and Matty created the chance for Leeam to neatly tuck the ball away at the back post after a bit of a scramble. Two nil and the Vultures had their tails up. Unfortunatley the lads could`nt add to there tally in this quarter. With the wind in their faces for the third quarter, the Vultures were going to work harder again to prevent a pacey Blyth team back into the game. Yet again Connor and Andrew stood firm as did Shaun in goal with a couple of smart saves. However the midfield decided to take their foot off the gas, and on a few occasions, stopped following their man back and marking goal side. This allowed Blyth back into the game with a well taken goal, at Shaun`s near post. Dylan had made three great strong box to box runs, but could`nt find the decisive pass or shot. The last quarter was a nervy one at first, as the Vultures looked for the goal to give them a bit of a cushion. Nathan  made a great run down the right flank, but shot just wide. The Blyth defence threw everything in the way of shots and made some great tackles, to stop Nathan again and Dylan from getting the goal that they needed. However Dylan was`nt going to be denied his goal and deservedly got it with a great finish as the ball fell to him after the keeper failed to hold onto another Smithy shot from outside the box. Despite the two goal cushion, there were more nervous times, as a spirited Blyth team would`nt lie down. A succesion of corners and throws kept the Vultures pinned into their own box, which led to Blyth hitting the crossbar. However Vultures ended the match on the attack with strong runs from Leeam and Matty. The whistle blew moments later, a good victory and a great start to the new league. Well done to the lads,  - a real hard working team effort.

Having played Morpeth only a few weeks earlier and suffered a heavy defeat, the Vultures knew exactly what they were up against. Dylan returned having missed last week due to a broken toe and was a major player in today's game. Predators kicked off after winning the toss, and the first quarter was quite cagey with both teams having chances, captain today Leeam had a good chance but was forced wide after delaying his shot. Shaun made an important save early on, but was otherwise un-tested due to the defending of Andrew and Connor, who were brilliant all game. The second quarter seen Morpeth score a goal that could have been avoided if the cross/shot had been charged down, but it eluded everyone and trickled into the net. Another soft goal was conceded, but this just rallied the players into producing their best performance of the season, Smithy and Nathan were up and down the field and battling for every ball and also using it intelligently. Butter was using his pace against the Morpeth defence which had them on the back foot but yet like other weeks the ball wouldn't go in the net. Trevor and Phil (Jim Royle) McKenna were shouting encouragement from the sideline, and the supporters were just a wall of noise and were willing the players on. Despite conceding another sloppy goal(again), the lads continued to play great football and gave 110% on what was becoming a very heavy pitch due to the persistent rain. Matty had played an important part in this game, but more was to come. He had to replace Shaun in goal for the last quarter, and made one outstanding save and his handling and kicking was assured. The remainder of the game was like the Alamo, it was constant pressure from the Vultures, they managed to get a goal back early on from Butter who finished well after a bit of a scramble in the box. The lads kept on battling and fighting for another couple of goals right to the end of the game, which they deserve credit for. This was by far their best performance of the season, and every player deserved man of the match.

For this match report, you could read many of the others, as it was so similar to many of the games we have played. Chances that werent put away by the Vultures, some good football played by the Vultures, some sloppy play and mistakes by the Vultures and a scoreline that does`nt really reflect the game! Dylan was missing today due to a broken toe that he received a couple of weeks ago. Vultures kicked off and immediately put the opposition on the back foot, Matty was holding the ball up well and fed Leeam for a half chance that was well saved by the keeper. Captain Nathan, was having his best game of the season, and was challenging and winning every ball in the centre of the field. As normal a soft goal was conceded when the Vultures were more than holding their own, this seemed to make then more determined. Andrew and Connor were putting in crunching tackles that any centre-half would have been proud. The next quarter seen the Vultures play some excellent football, with Leeam
and Butter playing one-two`s and the Yellows chasing shadows, this was backed up by Smithy in the engine room, keeping things ticking over. Leeam should have scored on his 2nd attempt but hit the outside of the post with the keeper lying on the ground after he had saved his first attempt. Yellows lumped the ball forward from the goal kick and managed to squeeze the ball in despite many red shirts in the box. Butter hit the crossbar with a thunderous shot that had the keeper well beaten and despite efforts from Smithy and Andrew the Yellows goal was still intact. Another couple of soft goals were conceded and Shaun made a couple of great saves towards the end of the game, and that's how it finished. Yet again some good football played, some great individual performances from Nathan, Leeam, Connor  and Andrew and another defeat and scoreline that does`nt reflect the game. Back to the drawing board for the manager and coach and training ground for the players.

This was like many of the games that the Vultures have already played this season. Up against a team that were in a similar position to themselves.Tthe Vultures kicked off with  Dylan captain for todays game and also celebrating his birthday, but were also missing goalkeeper Shaun whom was unavailable for todays game and Matty filling in, in goal. Winning  the toss, Dylan  decided to kick off 1st. They started off well with strong runs from Dylan and Leeam in midfield. Unfortunatley they also yet again gave away 2 soft goals in the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was much the same, some great play from the Vultures, Smithy biting and fighting in midfield for every ball and Nathan sweeping up well. Andrew in defence brought stability to the defence with a solid performance and Connor doing some hard crunching tackles. The Vultures brought the score back to 3-1 with a fine strike from Butter and then missed a great chance to get right back into the game, when the keeper made a great save from Leeam when through on goal. Instead the Vultures conceded another couple of soft goals  before Andrew notched his first of the season with a deflected shot that easily beat the keeper. The 3rd and 4th quarters were much the same, with spells of great football and battling, and then periods of sloppy play when goals are conceded with ease. It was`nt one of the Vultures better performances but hopefully the players would have learnt from there mistakes and can take the experience into the latter part of the season.

Vultures started this match the way they finished last week - battling for every ball and passing well. Both Nathan and Andrew in defence made some good early tackles and passed the ball well out of defence. Matty was holding the ball well up front and bringing  Ciaran  and Smithy into the play. A couple half chances to Matty and Dylan came to nothing. Towards the end of the quarter Cramlington started to apply pressure but sharp tackling from the two defenders , backed up by Smithy and Dylan kept them at bay. No score at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter had Connor running hard in the midfield and Leeam making clever runs down the right. Then Cramlington scored a wonder goal when one of their players crossed and another volleyed in from the edge of the box. Having competed so well to this point this seemed to knock the stuffing out of the vultures and they were at sixes and sevens for the next five minutes. During this time they conceded two fairly soft goals and would have been further behind if Shaun had not made a couple of good saves. But by the end of the quarter the vultures had sorted themselves out and were back on the attack with shots from Matty and Leeam pulling good saves from the opposition goalie.
Into the second half and Vultures took control of the game - passing and moving - with Smithy in the thick of everything. Shots from Dylan and Leeam went wide and Ciaran had piledriver across the face of goal that no one could get on the end of. A goal had to come and it did. Smithy scored with an exquisite lob from the edge of the area. Cramlington came back into it and Shaun had to be on his toes to make a couple of good saves. Dylan picked up an injury in a tackle and Nathan was straight into the action with a fine run and cross.  Vultures then got caught on the break and Cramlington scored.
More of the same in the final quarter as the vultures continued to take the game to the opposition. Shots from Ciaran and Leeam were saved and Vultures were caught on the break again - something to work on in training! Andrew was now marauding out of defence and setting up attack after attack. another shot from Leeam went wide and then Ciaran released Matty who finished well past the goal keeper. A slip in defence let Cramlington score a final goal.
Every week sees an improved performance and the all the players should be proud of how they played today.

This was yet another game against one of the strongest sides in the league. Vultures kicked off the game with today's captain Matty winning the toss. They got off to the worst possible start, conceding an own goal in the 1st minute after a great cross from the Walker winger , Andrew was unable to do anything other than hook the ball into his own net. Despite conceding this early goal, Connor and Andrew in defence were solid all game. The Vultures picked themselves up after a sluggish start and really started to play well, Matty up front was holding the ball up really well and bringing the midfield into the game. Smithy  was carrying on from where he left off last week, with crunching tackles, and Leeam and Dylan were doing the running down the flanks. Another soft goal was conceded and they went into the break 2 goals down. Butter was on for the next quarter and was straight  into the game , causing problems for the Walker defence with his electric pace. Nathan was into the midfield as Leeam was rested, with orders to help shore up the midfield. It didn't go quite go to plan, with yet another two avoidable goals being shipped. The 1st a good header from the forward, whilst being watched by 3 players without a challenge being made. the 2nd a good strike when no one closed the attacker down, which enabled him to pick his place in the bottom corner. Shaun in goal was looking more and more comfortable with his handling and all round play, topped off with some great saves. Vultures yet again picked themselves up and never let their heads go down, continuing to play good football whenever they had the ball. Vultures surged forward, but a chance from Butter was expertly saved from the Walker keeper when a certain goal looked on the cards. Another couple of goals were conceded to give Walker a flattering scoreline of six goals to nil. Despite the scoreline, this was possibly the best all round performance to date from the Vultures. If they can cut out the mistakes and learn how to find the back of the net, they will definitely start to get the results that their performances deserve. A word for Phil the referee who handled a very physical game very well.

It was the 2nd game in two days for the Vultures, as they looked to bounce back after the previous days result. They started off well, despite the cold affecting a few of the players in the warm-up. Nathan Johnston was missing today and Smithy was carrying an injury from the Blyth game. Despite the good start, they still found themselves a goal down at the end of the quarter, Shaun not being able to get down quick enough to a near post shot. Dylan had been making some strong runs in the centre of the pitch and this was clearly missed in the next quarter when he was off the pitch, as Bay notched 3 quick goals without Vultures being able to reply. Yet again Andrew(captain today) and Connor were stretched at the back but dealt well with bay`s attacks. Matty was leading the line well up front, but didnt get much out of the Bay defence, or the referee with some dodgy decisions. Leeam was putting the effort in, going up and down the wing but to no avail as was Butter with his pace troubling the defence on a couple of occasions. Chances were being created, but the Vultures were having trouble finishing them again. Connor had hurt his foot in the 2nd quarter, but carried on bravely, time and time again making great ball winning challenges. The fourth quarter seen Mckenna go in goal, to give Shaun a break from the relentless pressure from Bay. This also saw  the Vultures havin their best period of the game, Smithy on one occasion plucked the ball out of the air with great control and after a good run fed the ball to Leeam but the keeper was quick off his line to stop the attack. Matty made a great save from the Bay attacker and then hoofed the ball upfield to Butter whom won a corner. This led to a run of six corners, delivered superbly by Leeam, but yet the lads still could`nt find that elusive goal. Dylan was through on goal after a Bay attack broke down and surely the goal was finally here that the hardwork deserved, but the keeper made the save with his out-stretched foot. The lads played really well in half of this game and not so good in the other half, once they find that consistency, the results will start to go in their favour.

Vultures started this game well , pressing forward looking or that first league goal. Dylan made a strong run but couldnt get the finish and Leeam was running at the defenders in good style. Towards the end of the quarter Blyth started to put the Vultures under pressure and scored two quick goals. In the last minute of the quarter Vultures had two chances the best falling to Smithy as Andrew put him through on the  keeper but he couldnt convert.
The second quarter was end to end with Shaun making a couple of good saves, Andrew and Connor putting in some excellent tackles and both Matty and Smithy getting chances at the other end. As has been the story of the season Vultures couldnt convert the chances that would put them back into the game. So inspite of much more of the ball the score was still 0-2 at half time.
The third quarter continued in the same vein with Blyth converting their two chances and Vultuures making most of the running. Leeam dribbled right through but was tackled as he was about to shoot and Ciaran got several shots away but the keeper saved. At the end of the quarter Matty was taking on the defence single handed but the ball wouldnt go in.
Into the last quarter and Vultures still thought they could get something out of this game. However they finally ran out of sream ,having run themselves into the ground for the rest of the match.
Definitely not the result the performance deserved as the scoreline looks like a beating yet for long periods the Vultures dominated the match. Ohh for a goal!

This was a hastily arranged Divisional cup game that was a cracker from start to finish. Community had inflicted a heavy defeat on the Vultures in a pre-season friendly and also defeated them in a tournament at Gosforth in September. This must have been in the back of the players mind as they kicked off, but any negative thoughts were soon washed away as the Vultures  got off to a positive start. Captain for today`s game Dylan won the toss, and decided to kick off. The Vultures gave as good as they got in the early exchanges, with Butter always a handful on the break with his pace. Andrew and Connor coped well in defence with the strong running of Wallsend backed up in midfield with Smithy and Leeam tracking back and trying to support the attack. Subs were made later in the half with the score still 0-0. Usual corner taker Leeam was off the field, enabling Smithy to take a great corner that found the head of Andrew whom thumped a header against the bar with the keeper well beaten. Meanwhile Shaun at the other end was playing his best game yet for the Vultures.   Wallsend managed to score after a moment of indecisive play in the defence. Mckenna was now up front but was well shackled by a tight wallsend defence but still managed to cause problems for them. Into the 2nd half and Wallsend managed to nick another goal after a goal mouth scramble. Yet again Shaun made some top drawer saves to keep them at bay. In the attack Dylan won a ball in midfield that Smithy managed to get on the end of, some neat play between him and Butter seen Butter crack a shot from just inside the box against the bar yet again! Nathan now back in defence played a great ball down the line to Butter and his perseverance enabled him to have a shot come cross which beat the keeper all ends up. The Vultures had their tails up now going into the last few minutes, with Mckenna and Butter pushed right up to get the equaliser. This nearly came after good work by Leeam down the left, put the ball through for Butter but his cross didnt find Mckenna in the middle. Mckenna closed the keeper down  on another occasion late on, and could have nicked the ball away if his legs had been 2 foot longer. The ref blew his whistle to signal the end of the game, and what a game it had been. Top marks to both sides whom played the game in a great spirit. Yet again the Vultures got nothing out of the game but have made great strides in the short time they have been together. Well done lads!

It was 2 weeks since the Vultures had last played, due to the fixture against Cramlington Juniors being postponed twice, due to cup commitments and a water-logged pitch. The Vultures kicked off the game after Smithy won the toss. Blyth quickly picked up the pace of the game, whilst the Vultures were a bit slower out of the blocks. The referee had said he was going to be strict with foul throws, and the lads were great with this, but despite saying this he let Blyth get away with one in the 2nd minute, which resulted in a breakaway and a near post shot that squeezed between the keeper and the post despite Shaun`s best effort to keep it out. Andrew and Connor were really strong in the tackle on many occasions to help keep Blyth at bay. Nathan was preventing Blyth from getting the ball to the front man, and Kieron and Leeam were trying their best to get the ball up front to the pacey Butterworth. The next quarter saw Connor come off and the introduction of Dylan whom got straight into the game with some strong runs and even stronger challenges. Connor was only off a minute before coming back on after Smithy was injured after a hefty challenge from 2 Blyth players. The referee played on despite Smithy lying on the turf injured. This was a very physical Blyth team, some might even have said cynical, with the shirt pulling,  heel clipping and other antics. Despite this the Vultures kept their shape and heads up. Unfortunately they conceded 2 goals in this period, one when Byth took a short corner and the lads hadnt seen this, and another when the nippy winger danced through to score a great goal, without 1 challenge or tackle being made. The last 2 quarters were similar, defending well from Andrew and Connor, keeping shape in midfield with Nathan, Leeam  and battling hard with Dylan doing particularly well. Leeam did well to shrug a man off but was again taken down when a run at goal appeared. Butter also made a great run, but he was forced wide, he still got the shot in but the keeper was equal to it. Another much improved performance from the newly formed Vultures, especially in the second half of the game where they easily matched the Blyth team -   which was pleasing for the manager and coach.

This was the Vultures 1st League game of the season and it could`nt have been a harder game as they were pitted against last seasons league champions Wallsend Boys Club Barca. The Vultures started off the game full of confidence after playing in the Complete Football tournament last weekend, which was the first time the team had played together. Unfortunatley they started the game without  Connor Abraham who was away on holiday. They started off well with some hard tackles going in from Andrew and Nathan in defence.  Inspite of some good tackling from all the Vultures it was`nt too long before Wallsend found the back of the net after a succession of corners and sustained pressure. The midfield of Dylan, Leeam and captain Kieron were battling hard in midfield and with the pace of Ciaran Butterworth in a more advanced role, always a threat on the break. Another couple of goals were quickly conceded after more pressure. Matty McKenna was introduced in the next quarter, with instructions of getting the ball and trying to hold it up and bring other players into the game. This was a really hard job to do because of the strength of the Wallsend team, another few goals were conceded in this quarter with keeper Shaun making some excellent saves along the way. Dylan made way in the 3rd quarter for a rest after his non-stop play, his replacement  Ciaran (Butter) charged down a clearance and was through on goal, great defending from Wallsend denied him from scoring. Another couple of  goals were conceded with some mistakes and inexperience starting to creep into the game from the Vultures. The last quarter was much the same with Leeam making some strong runs, Kieron (Smithy) having a snapshot just wide and Andrew and Nathan standing strong in defence. A hard start to the season for the Vultures, but hopefully a lot can be learnt out of this performance and will stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.
