NORTH
SHIELDS PORTO UNDER 10’S
Michael and Kevin would like to congratulate Porto on reaching 2 cup
finals this season and ending runners up in the 1st half of season.
The team has performed week in and week out and the effort of all the
players has been outstanding. The Divisional Cup final took place on
17th April at Newsham Pavillion in the most dreadful conditions against
Coast Soccer, unfortunately the final score being 7-3 to Coast.
The shield final took place also at Newsham Pavillion on 10 May against
Cramlington Reds, a close game but Porto coming out winners by 1 goal
to nil. A great day had by all, going back to the Robin Hood in Murton
Village for a delicious BBQ and celebration.
The last few weeks have been very busy and many games having to be
played but Porto kept their games going and gave some excellent performances
against some top teams like Crammys/Wallsend/Coast. All players should
be very proud of what they have achieved this season and I know the
parents and supporters are very proud of you all.

WELL DONE PORTO FOR A FANTASTIC SEASON!
Thanks also to all the support we have received
this season by all.
Thanks also to both sponsors The Chiropractor

17/04/08 - Divisional Cup Final
North Shields Juniors Porto 3 - 7 Whitley Bay Coast Soccer
This divisional cup final was played at the Newsham Pavillion in Blyth
on Thursday the 17th April.
The game started in horrible conditions for the teams with driving
rain which didn’t stop all night. In the first quarter both teams
were feeling each other out with chances for Porto falling to Bates
and Horne but the Coast keeper was equal to the shots. Coast soccer
also had efforts but the first quarter ended 0-0.
The second quarter began and both teams were trying to seize the imitative
but first blood went to Coast after a good shot hit the post and rebounded
off the unlucky Shotton into the Porto net. This seemed to give Coast
a lift and it wasn’t long before they doubled their lead after
a corner was headed in on the near post to make it 2-0. Porto however
never stopped and got their reward when Jack Bates curled in a great
shot to make it 2-1 and the quarter ended like that with Coast having
the upper hand.
In the third quarter Porto were now trying to get back into the game
and when Tom Crass crossed a great ball into the Coast box the defender
handled and the referee pointed to the spot. Adam Mooney stepped up
and hit an unstoppable shot into the Coast net to make it 2-2. The next
chance fell to Coast after a dubious free kick was awarded and the shot
went straight through a crowd of players to make it 3-2 to Coast. Porto
tried to push forward but were caught out twice in quick succession
by Coast quick passing and ended the quarter 5-2 down.
The fourth quarter started with Coast scoring in the first minute after
confusion in the Porto defence to make it 6-2. The lads now playing
for pride gave it a real go and got the reward their effort deserved
when the ball broke to Jordan Phelps. He shifted the ball onto his left
foot and smashed a blockbuster shot off the face of the keeper into
the roof of the Coast net to make it 6-3. The lads tried to push on
for more goals but Coast broke away and scored to make it 7-3 and the
game ended with this scoreline.
Coast man of the Match - ADAM MOONEY
MANAGERS COMMENT
The lads gave it a real go in awful conditions and never stopped trying.
The score was not a true reflection of the game as both teams had chances
and at one point the game could have gone either way.
WELL DONE LADS!!!!!
13/04/08 - North Shields Porto 2 - 3 Whitley
Bay Dynamos
In the first quarter Porto started off on the offensive and when Mooney
picked up the ball he passed down the line to Billy Horne who took the
ball past his marker and smashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of
the net to make it 1-0 to Porto. There were other chances which fell
to Bates and Phelps but the Whitley Bay keeper made fine saves.
The second quarter Porto continued to push for goals but the ball somehow
stayed out of the Dynamos net. The equalising goal came after a mad
deflection - the ball was cleared well by Horne but it hit a Porto defender
and went into the net to make it 1-1. This seemed to spur the visitors
on and they now had renewed confidence and stepped up their game but
there were no more goals in this quarter.
In the third quarter Dynamos took a grip on the game and quickly scored
twice to lead 3-1. This seemed to wake the Porto team up and they started
to get the ball down and play. Porto had chances but could not find
a way passed the Dynamos keeper.
The fourth quarter Porto came out and kept their opponents pushed back
and eventually got a goal back after Horne thumped the ball forward
from just inside his own half and the ball went past everyone into the
Dynamos net to make it 3-2. The team were now shooting at will desperately
trying to get an equaliser but simply ran out of time and the game ended
3-2 to the Dynamos.
Dynamos man of the match - BILLY HORNE
Manager’s comment
At the start and at the end of the game the team were on top but the
third quarter was what cost us the game. We need to play well all the
way through the game not just in parts.
WELL DONE LADS!!!!
Shield Semi-final 06/04/08
Blyth Town Whites 0 - 3 North Shields Porto
This was a chance for Porto to get through to a second cup final for
the season and not one single player was going to let that chance slip
by. In the rain, sleet and snow their parents should be proud that they
all stood up to be counted and all played their part.
In the first quarter Porto tried to play there football and created
chances, mostly shots from the edge of the box with Finlinson going
close. The next chance came after a great pass from Phelps. He found
Sayers who tried to flick the ball past the keeper who was quick off
his line and saved well.
The second quarter was the same story with Porto creating more chances
than their opponents. The first chance fell to Spencer who shot well
but the Blyth keeper made a good save. The next chance fell to Horne
but his shot was well saved by the keeper for a Porto corner. The corner
was taken by Finlinson and the ball hit the Blyth post and rebounded
out. The Blyth team were also passing the ball well and created a couple
off chances but Shotton was equal to them.
In the third quarter Porto took control of the game and started to
pass the ball around and find more space and eventually got the goal
their play had deserved. The goal came after Spencer played a long diagonal
ball for Jack Bates to run onto. He rounded the advancing keeper, kept
his cool under pressure from the Blyth defenders and hit his shot which
the defender made a gallant effort to save but the ball crossed the
line to make it 1-0 to Porto. The next chance fell to Horne; he beat
his man and hit a great shot which went just wide of the post.
The fourth quarter was to see Porto take control and march on into
the final with some great football. The team were passing the ball well
and when Rudd carried the ball through the middle he played it out to
the left to Billy Horne, he skipped past his man and composed himself
and struck a wonderful low shot into the bottom corner which went through
the net such was the power of the shot to make it 2-0. The Blyth team
were now pushing forward trying to get a goal but with Rudd and Mooney
at the back they were limited to long range efforts. Porto continued
to attack and when Phelps beat his man and fed Horne down the left he
took his time and shot across the keeper and Ben Sayers was on hand
to finish and make it 3-0 to Porto and this was to be the final score.
Blyth man of the match JACK BATES
Manager’s comment
The team played well in awful conditions, we defended very well. The
lads in midfield created space for each other and passed the ball well
and we created some good chances. All the players played their part
and we were very proud of them.
A SOLID PERFORMANCE WELL DONE LADS!!!!!!
WELL DONE TO THE BLYTH TEAM, YOU ALL PLAYED REALLY WELL GOOD LUCK FOR
THE REST OF THE SEASON.
30/03/08 - North Shields Porto 0 - 2 Cramlington
Juniors Whites
In the first quarter both teams struggled to find their passing game
and both teams were evenly matched, with neither team giving each other
much room. The first chance for Porto fell to Finlinson after a good
pass from Spencer, but the keeper made a good save. The next chance
fell to Rudd, he beat his man and hit a great shot but the keeper was
there again to deny Porto.
The second quarter began with Cramlington pressing and when the forward
found himself in acres of space he had a shot, only for Shotton to make
a magnificent save. The ball looked to be going out but was kept in
play with some good skill and crossed back in. The Whites forward got
on the end of the cross and scored to make it 1-0 to Cramlington. Porto
tried to get a goal back but could not find a way through the Whites
defence.
The third quarter was the same story, both teams evenly matched, Porto
having their fair share of possession without creating a clear cut chance.
Porto pushed on to get the equalizer but got caught by a swift counter
attack which was finished well to leave the home team 2-0 down going
into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter should have seen Porto get back in the game as they
had more chances and more of the ball but they could not break down
a well drilled Cramlington defence and the score finished 2-0.
Cramlington man of the match JACOB SHOTTON
Manager’s comment
The team played well enough but on this day didn’t convert the
few chances we had and were punished for it. We need to shoot quicker
and from distance in future, rather than trying to walk the ball into
the opponents net.
23/03/08 - Shield Q/F
Whitley Bay Jnr Dynamo’s 2 - 4 North Shields Jun Porto
In the first quarter Porto kicked with the wind and for all they had
good possession they struggled to make the advantage count. At the back
Rudd was defending well for Porto. There were chances with Phelps and
Sayers combining well but Finlinson hit his shot just over the bar.
The second quarter was a different story with Whitley Bay attacking
more and creating chances but Shotton was solid in goal. The defensive
partnership of Crass and Mooney limited the opposition to long range
shots. Porto now had to try and play their passing game and it paid
dividends when Horne sent Finlinson down the wing and the defender had
to put the ball out for a throw. Finlinson took it quickly, and when
Horne laid it back he swung in a great cross and Jordan Phelps met it
with a wonderful glancing header that went in off the underside of the
bar to make it 1-0. Porto defended well in the rest of the quarter to
keep the advantage going into the third quarter.
The third quarter was when Porto would play some great football and
get the reward their play deserved. Sayers won a corner for Porto, and
when Bates curled the ball in Rory Spencer flew in at the back post
with a bullet header to give them a 2-0 lead. Then it was Jack Bates
with some great individual skill to make room for a shot which the Dynamo’s
keeper did well to save. The rebound came out to Ben Sayers who calmly
half volleyed into the Dynamo’s net to make it 3-0. Porto were
now hungry for more and when Horne won them another corner Jack Bates
stepped up and delivered the perfect ball which went over the keeper
and curled into the top corner to make it 4-0.
The fourth and final quarter would be the test for Porto. Could they
see the game out and march on to the semi finals? Dynamo’s pushed
forward at every opportunity and did manage to score twice to make the
last few moments slightly uncomfortable. This team may not be the biggest
but they do have the biggest hearts and the game ended 4-2 to Porto
with the better team on the day getting the result that the lads deserved,
Dynamo’s Man of the Match Adam Finlinson
Manager’s comment
On yet another windy day the lads did well, controlled the game and
used the weather to their advantage, some good passing and everyone
worked hard for each other and with four different goal scorers proves
you really are a team.
WELL DONE LADS EXCELLENT AGAIN!!!!!!
16/03/08 - Berwick Rangers 6 - 3 North Shields Porto
The first quarter on a windy day was a bit of a damp affair with Porto
having the share of possession but not being able to break the Berwick
defence down. They did manage one good chance with Jack Bates seeing
his shot rebound back off the bar. Berwick did convert one of there
chances and led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter Berwick piled on the pressure and raced into
a four goal lead before Porto woke up. Porto started to play and Rory
Spencer went close with a half volley just wide. The next chance fell
to Jack Bates who was played in by Spencer and Bates calmly went round
the advancing keeper to make it 4-1.
The third quarter Porto came out with the same attitude and Phelps
speculative effort made it 4-2. This saw Porto push on thinking they
would get back in the game but Berwick broke away and scored to make
it 5-2 and a minute later scored again to make it 6-2 and end Porto’s
chance of getting back into the game.
The fourth quarter Porto had chances to score but could only manage
one goal Horne taking the corner and Adam Mooney scoring a great header
to make it 6-3 to Berwick.
BERWICK MAN OF THE MATCH ADAM MOONEY
Manager’s comment
After the long journey the lads didn’t seem up for the game but
have played very well over the months and every one can have an off
day. Hope normal service is resumed next week.
02/03/08 - North Shields Porto 3 - 0 Wallsend
Seville
Porto took the final mini soccer honours over Wallsend Seville in style
defeating the visitors by three goals to nil.
On a gusty day at John Spence, Porto kicked with the wind in the first
quarter and put pressure on the Wallsend defence with some great play
leading to chances for Finlinson and Spencer, both efforts just wide
of the mark. Porto continued to press and when Bates curled in a corner
it was met by a stooping header from Adam Finlinson straight into the
Wallsend net to give Porto the lead. At the back Rudd was doing a fine
job marshalling the Wallsend forward.
The second quarter began and Seville were now trying to get back into
the game but Shotton was in fine form catching everything anywhere near
the Porto goal. Mooney, Crass and Phelps limited Wallsend to shots from
long range. In midfield Horne, Finlinson and Sayers were working hard
to win the ball back for Porto and create chances. Finlinson nearly
doubled Porto’s lead when he was fed by Sayers and his effort
came back off the Wallsend crossbar but the quarter ended 1-0.
The third quarter would be when Porto would take control and try to
kill the game off. The first opportunity fell to Horne, after a great
dribble his shot went just over the Wallsend bar. This seemed to spur
Porto on and when Bates picked the ball up he went past a man and struck
a wonderful shot which the keeper did well to save. The ball looked
to be heading out for a corner but up popped Sayers to pass back across
goal to Rory Spencer who slotted home to make it 2-0 and give Porto
the two goal cushion which their play deserved.
The fourth quarter started with Wallsend trying to get back into the
game but with Porto’s defence in fine form and their keeper catching
everything, Wallsend would not get a chance. The midfield kept the ball
well and even against the wind the lads were in control and outplaying
the opposition passing and moving for each other. Just as the time was
running out Horne fed Sayers down the right and he crossed, but the
ball was half cleared and Bates controlled and went past his man, hit
a low drive which Ben Sayers side footed home to make it 3-0 and send
the Porto parents into dreamland. The game ended with Porto taking all
three points after a fine performance.
Wallsend man of the match Adam Finlinson
Manager’s comment
A wonderful performance in which every player gave 100%. To say I was
pleased would be an injustice to the team and the effort that they have
put in. The lads deserved the result and by the look on their faces
at the end totally enjoyed the praise that they got - well done lads
totally brilliant.
24/02/08 - North Shields Jun Porto 3-1 Berwick
Rangers
The game began with Porto wanting to make up for their previous defeat
and they attacked from the first seconds with Spencer going close. The
midfield of Horne, Sayers and Finlinson were creating chances, and when
Porto won their first corner Billy Horne curled it in and Adam Finlinson
side footed home to give Porto the lead. Porto seemed to then take their
foot off the gas and allow Rangers back in to the game, and the visitors
scored to level the game at 1-1. Porto seemed shocked, and but for a
fine double block from Horne, they would have fallen behind to the Berwick
side.
The second quarter began and Porto took back the initiative and started
to create chances with Bates having a fine volley saved. Next it was
Finlinson who made space but shot narrowly wide. At the back Rudd and
Mooney were defending very well, and with Shotton catching with ease,
the Porto team had regained their composure and it would only be a matter
of time before Porto would take back the advantage.
The third quarter began and Porto continued pushing their opponents
back but the ball didn’t seem to want to go into the Rangers net.
Porto had a succession of corners and when Finlinson swung the ball
in, it landed at the feet of Rory Spencer who, cool as a cucumber, slotted
home with his left foot (yes that’s right left foot) to make it
2-1 to Porto going into the final quarter.
In the final quarter Porto tried to kill off the game with Horne crossing
well and Jordan Phelps heading the ball just wide. The next chance saw
some great inter play between Phelps and Sayers down the right, the
give and go beating the defender, but Sayers shot went into the side
netting. The killer goal did come after Sayers found Horne, who beat
his man and played in Phelps, who shot into the roof of the Berwick
net to make it 3-1 to Porto and the points were safe.
Rangers man of the match Adam Finlinson
Manager’s comment
A good performance we played well enough to win the game but will have
to raise the stakes for Wallsend next week.
A good result well done lads!!!!
17/02/08 - Wallsend Seville 3-0 North Shields Porto
In the first quarter of the game both teams began slowly, feeling each
other out, with few chances falling to either side. At the back Rudd
and Mooney defending well with Shotton looking comfortable in goal.
The midfield Horne, Phelps and Sayers working hard to contain the Wallsend
team and upfront was Bates causing problems for the home team.
The second quarter was much the same story with Wallsend attacking
and Porto defending well and playing on the break. As Porto were attacking
a quick break saw Wallsend open up the Porto defence and a cross come
shot was deflected into the net to make it 1-0 to Wallsend. This seemed
to stir Porto into life and they began to creep back into the game and
create chances with Finlinson going close and then Spencer turning and
shooting just wide. At the back Crass had come on and was doing a fine
job defensively.
In the third quarter Porto attacked and attacked the home team but
could not find a way past the Wallsend side. Porto had a great free
kick from Bates saved, then Finlinson was denied by the keeper who was
in fine form.
The fourth quarter began where Porto had left off. They seemed to have
chance after chance, with Horne going close, then it was Bates’
turn, but he was denied by a block on the line. Next it was Horne who
was fouled just outside the Wallsend box, Finlinson stepped up and curled
his free kick over the wall, the keeper tipped it onto the bar and out
for a corner. As Porto pressed for the equaliser they were caught with
the sucker punch as Wallsend broke away and scored a second goal. The
lads pushed forward from the kick off but Seville broke through the
defence again. Shotton made an excellent save but the ball rebounded
back off the post straight to a Wallsend player who slotted into the
empty net to make it 3-0.
Seville man of the match JACK BATES
Manager’s comment
The effort was there for all to see and on another day if Porto had
equalised they could have gone on to win the game.
Great effort lads!!!!!
16/02/08 - SHIELD
WHITLEY BAY BC YELLOWS 1 - 3 NORTH SHIELDS PORTO
In the first quarter the exchanges were even with both teams having
chances and Porto taking the early advantage with Phelps playing in
Bates who crossed well and Rory Spencer scored a diving header to make
it 1-0. At the other end the Yellows had a shot cleared off the line
by Sayers and the quarter finished 1-0.
The second quarter was the same story with both teams having chances
with Porto going close with Finlinson and Sayers, and Horne shooting
well but into the side netting. At the other end Shotton saved well
after the forward went clean through on the Porto goal. At the back
Crass and Mooney defended very well to keep the score at 1-0.
The third quarter saw Porto take more control over the game, with great
defending from Rudd and with them having more of the possession. When
Horne was fouled, Bates curled in a great free kick and the keeper made
a great save. The next chance fell to Spencer after Horne made a good
run but the keeper saved well again.
The fourth quarter was the same story with Porto having the lion’s
share of possession and when Phelps went on a strong run down the left
he found Bates who slotted past the keeper to make it 2-0. Porto seemed
to relax but Whitely Bay had other ideas and after some good passing
the forward scored to make it 2-1. This seemed to be a wake up call
and Porto seized control and when Spencer made a good run he played
in Bates and yet again he finished well to make it 3-1 and kill off
any hope of a Whitley Bay comeback.
Whitley Bay man of the match Jack Bates
Manager’s comment
We didn’t play at our best but stuck at it and got the result
and go on into the quarter final WELL DONE LADS!!!
10/02/08 - NORTH SHIELDS PORTO 3-4 COAST SOCCER
In the first quarter Porto started very slowly and it wasn’t
long before the visitors took the lead after they took a quick throw
and reacted quicker and the ball found its way into the Porto net. The
second goal for Coast came from a free kick from outside the box which
was curled into the net to make it 2-0.
The second quarter began and Porto struggled to break the visitors
down, chances fell to Spencer and Finlinson but the keeper saved well
on both occasions. As Porto pushed to get a goal they were caught by
a swift passing move and the Coast Soccer forward slotted into the net
to make it 3-0 at the end of the second quarter.
The third quarter was to see Porto pushing for a goal with Bates and
Spencer linking well but they couldn’t find a way past the Coast
keeper. As Coast sat back and soaked up the pressure the inevitable
happened when they broke away and scored to make it 4-0.
The fourth quarter began well for Porto with Horne being fouled on
the edge of the box, Mooney swung in the free kick and Rory Spencer
converted to make it 4-1. This seemed to give the home team hope and
when Sayers and Bates combined to create a chance for Spencer he finished
well to make it 4-2. Porto really smelt blood and attacked at will putting
the Coast defence under pressure and in a goal mouth scramble Rory Spencer
poked the ball home to make it 4-3 and a grand stand finale. In the
closing minutes Porto’s attack was relentless but they simply
ran out of time and the game ended 4-3 to Coast Soccer.

Manager’s comment
If we had played from the start like we did in the last two quarters
we would have won the game but the lads showed great character to get
back into the game so WELL DONE LADS!!!
03/02/08 - Whitley Bay Dynamos 2-3 North Shields
Porto
The first quarter was evenly matched with both teams going close but
neither team could break the deadlock. Porto’s best, chances falling
to Sayers and Bates but the Dynamos’ keeper made good saves on
both occasions.
The second quarter was to see Porto create more chances with Spencer
going close and Finlinson having a great header go inches over the bar.
As Porto pushed forward they were caught out at the back with Dynamos
passing the ball quickly and their forward opened the scoring from close
range. The score remained 1-0 to the home team thanks to some great
defending from Rudd and Mooney and good goal keeping from Shotton.
The third quarter was to be the same story with Porto trying to get
back into the game but Dynamos giving as good as they got and extending
their lead to 2-0. The score could have been worse but for two fine
tackles from Crass and Horne at vital times.
The fourth quarter began and there was renewed vigour in the Porto
attack and they pinned Dynamos back. Finlinson won them an early corner
which Bates swung in and it was met with a fine header from Jordan Phelps
to make it 2-1. Porto could now smell the fear in their opponents and
were attacking at every opportunity. Horne battled to win a corner,
Adam Finlinson curled in a great ball and Billy Horne met the cross
with a bullet header to make the score level at 2-2 and send Porto’s
supporters wild. There was now only three minutes left and Porto were
still chasing the victory after getting back into the game. When Horne
won them another corner on the same side, Finlinson retrieved the ball,
quickly composed himself and curled in another great corner. Billy Horne
thumped another header into the Dynamo’s net. The players and
supporters were going mad. There was still time left for Dynamo’s
to have one attack but the shot went wide and the referee blew fulltime.
Dynamos man of the match JACOB SHOTTON
MANAGERS COMMENT
An unbelievable game 2-0 down going into the final quarter and you battled
back not just to get back into the game but to actually go on and win.
Fantastic and unbelievable spring to mind. We were so proud of all of
you. WELL DONE!!!!
27/01/08 - North Shields Juniors Porto 4 -
0 Cramlington Juniors Reds
On this windswept day Porto swept aside the visitors with some good
football and took control from the first kick of the game. It didn’t
take long for Cramlington to be put under pressure with long range efforts
from Spencer and Horne. The first goal of the game came when Porto got
a corner. Sayers crossed it in, the keeper parried the ball to the edge
of the box and Jordan Phelps controlled it then curled a delightful
shot into the top corner to make it 1-0. The second goal came from the
same player when the ball broke to Phelps 20 yards from goal. He hit
his shot high and it went over the keeper and into the net to make it
2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter the Reds had the strong wind and did have a share
of the possession, but could not break down the strong defence of Mooney,
Crass and Rudd, and the great Porto keeper Shotton. Porto did have chances
in this quarter with Finlinson and Bates going close but the score remained
2-0.
The third quarter was when Porto showed their dominance with some good
attacking football, keeping the ball well, and passing and moving for
each other. The third goal came when Porto’s attack seemed to
have broken down and the ball was cleared out of the Cramlington box.
It fell to Ben Sayers who smashed a first time shot straight into the
top right corner giving the keeper no chance. The next chance fell to
Rory Spencer after a great piece of skill when there was a goalmouth
scramble he was on the ground he flicked the ball up and did an overhead
kick which went narrowly wide of the goal. The fourth goal of the game
came when Billy Horne went on a run, he beat a couple of players and
passed to Jack Bates, he played a great ball to Rory Spencer who hit
it on the run with the outside of his right foot straight into the back
of the Cramlington net to make it 4-0.
In the fourth quarter Porto continued to put pressure on their opponents
and restricted them to long range efforts due to their good defending.
Porto kept the ball on the floor and did create chances with Bates and
Finlinson going close but the final score was 4-0.
Cramlington Man of the match - JACK BATES
WELL DONE LADS!!!!
A performance with some good defending and great teamwork where everyone
played well.
20/01/08 - North Shields Porto 3 - 3 Cramlington
Whites
North Shields began well on a heavy pitch, which would prove tricky
for both teams. After five minutes Porto were awarded a penalty after
a dubious handball by the Whites defender. Tom Crass stepped up and
hit his penalty well, but the keeper made a great save which rebounded
back off the post, and was cleared away by the defender to keep the
score at 0-0. The penalty seemed to wake the Whites up and after some
good two touch passing their forward had time to pick his spot to make
it 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was much the same with both teams creating chances,
with Bates and Horne going close. Porto continued to press for the equalizer
and it came when Tom Crass won a tackle and fed the ball to Ben Sayers,
who played in Jack Bates. Jack fired home with a good finish to make
it 1-1.
The third quarter was to see Porto come back into the game with better
passing and more movement of the ball. Mooney skipped past his man and
played a good ball to Horne, he found Rory Spencer who got the ball
onto his right foot and crashed it into the Cramlington net to put Porto
2-1 up. The lead didn’t last long though, and after some good
work, the Cramlington forward found himself with time and space and
stroked the ball past Shotton to make it 2-2. The very next attack was
to see Cramlington take the lead. An effort from the edge of the box
was blocked by a Porto defender only for the ball to drop to a Cramlington
player who slotted home to make it 3-2 to the Whites at the end of the
third.
In the final quarter Porto came out with renewed vigour and stepped
up the pace trying to get a result, and after some pressure they got
the goal their efforts deserved. Mooney, winning the ball well, found
Horne in space, he squared the ball to Spencer who took a touch and
played it to Sayers on the right side of the box. Sayers took a shot
but the keeper saved well and the rebound fell to Rory Spencer. He controlled
the ball, moved it out of his feet and shot with great accuracy high
into the Cramlington net to make it 3-3. After this Porto dominated
the game but there was little time left and the game finished level.
Cramlington nomination for man of the match - Jack Bates
The boys showed great spirit to get a result with little time left
and never gave up.
Well done lads!!!!

This game was to be Porto’s first chance to reach a cup final

The second period was the same story with good passing and plenty of
pressure on the Whitley Bay goal, but all of a sudden they broke away
and Porto were in trouble. The Whitley Bay forward shifted the ball
onto his left foot and smashed his shot towards the top right corner.
However, superb goal keeping saw Shotton fling himself across the goal

06/01/08 - North Shields Porto 11 - 0 Tynemouth
Yellows
This game was Porto’s first game in the shield against an unknown
opponent and the Porto team rose to the challenge with a very good performance.
The first quarter saw Porto take control from the opening kick. The
team seized control with some good closing down and some excellent passing
which lead to early chances falling to Spencer and Horne. The opening
goal of the game came when Spencer played in Horne and his cross was
met by Jordan Phelps who side footed home to give Porto the lead in
the first quarter.
The second quarter was much of the same until Tynemouth broke clear
but Shotton was out of his goal like a flash to deny the forward for
Tynemouth. This was the wake up call and Tom Crass beat his man and
found Billy Horne he played in Jack Bates and he scored to make it 2-0.
Porto were in control now and Sayers took a short corner and found Spencer
on the edge of the box he crashed a shot in from outside the box to
make it 3-0.
The third quarter was to see the lads take full control and dominate
the rest of the game Kieron Rudd making a good run and finding Jack
Bates he shot from long range and it somehow found it’s way into
the Tynemouth net 4-0. The same player scored again minutes later after
a long throw from Phelps and Bates fired in from outside the box to
make it 5-0. Bates was now in full goal scoring mode and he made it
6-0 with a good volley from close range after a great cross from Rory
Spencer.
Next it was the goal of the game with Adam Mooney finding Bates who
swung in the cross and Jordan Phelps met with a diving header to make
it 7-0 at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was a carbon copy of the third with Mooney on a
run he found Ben Sayers who scored to make it 8-0. The next goal came
after a mazy run from Horne and a good pass to Kieron Rudd who finished
well to make it 9-0 to Porto. Phelps was to complete his hatrick and
make it 10-0 with another fine header after Mooney crossed with his
left foot (yes left foot).Billy Horne was to get his goal after some
fine passing between Rudd, Mooney and Sayers and Horne’s first
effort was saved but he followed up with a right foot shot to make the

to get the next goal. Horne hit a long range effort which the keeper
saved well; next it was Finlinson his shot just wide. Porto continued
to press with Phelps and Spencer linking well to find finlinson his
cross headed in by Billy Horne to make it 3-1.
The fourth quarter was much of the same with Porto trying to kill the
game off and Dynamo’s trying to get back into the game. The next
goal was crucial and had a hint of luck curling in direct from a corner
to the delight of the Dynamo team to make it 3-2.The next five minutes
was panic frantic and after a scramble in the box a Dynamo shot found
it’s way into Porto’s net to level the game 3-3.In The last
couple of minutes both team’s tried to get the winning goal but
the game ended a draw which was probably a fair result for both team’s.

21/10/07 - North Shields Porto 0 Wallsend BC
Seville 1
This top of the table clash had everything except a goal for Porto.
In the first quarter Porto passed the ball well and created opportunities
but couldn’t get past a good Wallsend keeper with Sayers and Bates
going close, while Phelps, Rudd and Mooney kept Wallsend restricted
to long range shots.
The second quarter was much the same story with both sides passing
the ball well and battling for possession like their lives depended
on it. Horne and Spencer coming on and linking well only for Spencer’s
shot to drift wide. The game was end to end with both teams having chances
but neither could convert.
The third quarter saw Wallsend step up the pace and after a scramble
in Porto’s box the ball ended up in their net. Crass and Mooney
were now defending really well, with Bates, Sayers, Phelps and Horne
working very hard for the team to restrict Wallsend shots. When they
did get through, Porto’s super keeper Jacob Shotton was superb
when called upon.
In the fourth quarter Porto defended excellently with Crass, Mooney
and Rudd all making last ditch tackles for their team. In midfield Spencer
and Phelps were battling for everything. Porto pushed Horne, Bates and
Mooney forward for the final few minutes but could not get the goal
their team deserved.

30/09/07 - North Shields Porto 2-2 Whitley

North Shields came up against a difficult team in a formidable Whitley
Bay side. In the early stages of the game, North Shields played some
wonderful football, with Phelps finding Horne, who played in Finlinson,

straight to Finlinson twenty yards out, he shot instinctively, but the
ball rebounded back off the post.
North Shields sustained the pressure and moments later they got their

side stepped two tackles before firing into the top corner from outside
the box. This seemed to be a wake up call for Whitley Bay who started
to pass the ball well. They got a goal back with some fine passing,
which led to a tap in to make the score 2-1 to Porto going in to the
final quarter.

the scores. In the final few moments both teams had chances but could
not convert due to some great goal keeping from both keepers.

COBRAS ROMA 1
Porto were the home team for their first league fixture of the season.
The game started with Porto taking the game to the visitors but unable
to break them down. Adam Finlinson the first to shoot narrowly wide
after good work from Horne down the left side.
In the 2nd quarter Porto took control, with Spencer finding Finlinson
outside the box. Finlinson’s shot was too hot for the Cobras keeper
to hold. 1-0. Cobras kicked off, lost possession, three passes later
the ball was in the Cobras net after a great strike by Billy Horne!
2-0. At this stage the scene was set for Porto to take full control.
The game was end to end with some sturdy defending from Rudd and Crass,
and some good passing from Sayers and Phelps, but Porto couldn’t
kill off the game.
In the 3rd quarter the game was much of the same until Cobras pulled
a goal back after a scramble in Porto’s penalty area. The highlight
for Porto was a great run from Mooney, only stopped by a good save from
Cobra’s keeper.
The 4th quarter was when Porto would show their dominance, with some
great play from Jack Bates with a shot blocked on the line by a Cobra
defender. At the other end Jacob Shotton was commanding his area very
well, and it was from him that the third goal came, with a long punt
up field, one bounce, and Phelps nipping between two defenders and doing
a speculative overhead kick which found its way into the Cobras net.
Porto continued to press and after some good play between Sayers, Spencer
and Bates, Horne was sent free down the right. He dribbled passed the
oncoming defender and smashed an unstoppable shot passed the keeper.
Porto continued to press but were unlucky not to score more goals.
Credit goes to all the lads who kept going and got the result they
deserved.

Well Done Porto!!
09/09/07 - Divisional Cup
North Shields Jun Lisbon 1-3 North Shields Jun Porto
Drawn together in the divisional cup, a derby game wasn’t
what either team would have wished for but never the less both teams
tried hard to take control of the game.
In the opening half, Lisbon had the better of the exchanges, after
an end to end first few minutes. With Shotton making some great saves,
Mooney and Crass defending excellently, and the midfield quartet of
Bates, Finlinson, Spencer and Sayers working hard, the Porto team started
to retain possession and take control against a very strong Lisbon team.
In the latter stages of the first half Porto started creating chances.
After a great four man move, Finlinson struck a great left foot shot
to the bottom right of the keeper, Ewan Bryson, which gave Porto a half
time lead.
In the 2nd half the game continued to be even. Lisbon crossed the ball
into the box, it bounced and struck a Porto arm: the referee awarded
a penalty. McLeod stepped up and drove the ball past Shotton giving
him no chance, to make the game all square.
The Lisbon goal this seemed to give Porto a boost and they picked up
the pace. Rudd taking control of the defence passed to Phelps who beat
his man and spread the ball wide to Horne. Horne dribbled past the defender
only to be fouled 5 yards outside the Lisbon box. Free Kick. Lisbon
set up their wall. Mooney placed the ball and curled a delightful free
kick into the top corner. What a goal!
In the last 10 minutes Porto scored again, this time after great work
from Bates and Finlinson who crossed for Spencer to rise like a salmon
and head into the Lisbon goal.
Overall a decent performance by both teams.
Man of the match: Jordan Phelps
