MATCH REPORTS

Tuesday 1st May
N/S Eagles 4 Ponteland Locomotive 2
Goals Luke Barton 2 Ryan Jordan 2

Our last league game of the season and another 3 points to take us third in the table.
After falling behind to an early Ponteland goal the lads came back well and were very patient with their passing. A few chances came our way but we just could not find the net.
Early in the second half Michael chased the ball down in the right hand corner and slid the ball across the box to Ryan Jordan to fire home the equaliser. The Eagles gained confidence and carried on playing some neat football which led to a second goal by Luke whick crept under the keeper. A well worked third goal by Luke off his head gave the team a clear lead but shortley after Ponteland scored again.
In the last minute Ryan Jordan collected the ball and went went on a run which resulted with a hard low level drive into the bottom corner to give the result a true reflection of the game.
well done lads on a terrific season and a great weekend in Blackpool. I am very proud of the whole team.

MOM Thomas Close

Wednesday 18th April
Ponteland Locomotive 2 N/S Eagles 4
Goals Reece Armstrong 2 Michael O'Donnell 2

A good win for the Eagles and some great individual performances. The boys had a lot of early possesion and they were eventually rewarded with the opening goal after a great corner from the right by Ryan J was met with a bullet header by Michael into the top corner. Michael was filling in for Luke who was unavailable and led the line very well scoring another and setting up another two goals for Reece to finish brilliantly.
The whole team played their part in a very satisfying performance and even though Ponteland scored two very good goals temselves The Eagles were desrerving winners.

Sunday 15th April
Cramlington Town Whites 3 N/S Eagles 3

Goals Luke Barton 1 Reece Armstrong 2

A mixed bag with the weather and also the performance with bright sunshine one minute and snow the next!
Once again the Eagles started slowly and found themselves 2 down halfway through the first half. The concentration must start from kick off as this seems to be when we concede the softest of goals. Fortunately determination came through again and the boys battled back, firstly when Reece pulled a goal back and after Owen unfortunately deflected a corner into his own net Luke pounced to get a second for the Eagles.
The team battled on but time was running out. After creating lots of chances the boys got lucky with the last kick of the game. The ball went out for a throw and the referee put the whistle to his mouth to blow for full time but he allowed the throw to be taken and as the ball came across the edge of the box Reece shot through a crowd of players in the bottom corner. The referee then blew for full time but wishing he had done 5 seconds earlier! The result was fair as the Eagles, after a poor start, dominated the second half.

Wednesday 11/4/12
N/S Eagles 4 Morpeth CSC Tigers 6
Goals Sam Stout, Luke Barton, Reece Armstrong, Christian Sharp

An entertaining if not frustrating game for The Eagles ended in defeat against a team we had beaten a week earlier.
The first first half was extremely poor from the home side as the defending and possesion of the ball were just too bad to be true and before long the Eagles were 4-0 down and looking at an embarrassing defeat at the hands of a well organised and positive Morpeth team.
A stern talking to at half time seemed to add a bit of spark to the team and after Sam grabbed a goal back a comeback was possibly on the cards. Luke added a second for the Eagles with a great header from a cornerand it was looking like the boys were getting the bit between their teeth. Unfortunately another soft goal was conceded and it gace Morpeth a bit more breathing space but after a penalty was awarded and converted by Reece the game was back on.
Chritian was causing their full back all sorts of problems on the left and made some great runs up and down the line, this eventually paid off and he scored a very well deserved goal to bring the score to 6-4 after Morpeth added to their tally on a break. The whistle was blown after another Eagles attack but we had run out of time.
As a team we must learn to concentrate and be positive from the very start of the game to earn us the league position we deserve.

MOM Christian Sharp

Sunday 1st April
Morpeth CSC Tigers 1 N/S Eagles 2

Goals Reece Armstrong Ryan Jordan

Another great win for the boys as yet again they came from behind to win a very closely matched game.
Passion and determination won the day for The Eagles against a good Morpeth team. The first ten minutes belonged to the home team as they started stronger and put us under a bit of pressure which eventually lead them to scoring the opening goal. This was the wake up call that the Eagles needed and they responded very well by winning the ball back and creating some great efforts on the Morpeth goal. Towards the end of the first half Reece fired a low shot shot inside the post to equalise and the remainder of the half belonged to us.
The second period was more of the same as we created more and more chances but without managing to score. Adam ,Michael, Owen and Ryan B were defending brilliantly and were getting forward as much as they could to help Ryan J and Sam who both worked tirelessly in the midfield. Luke and Reece kept the Morpeth defenders busy and it was just a matter of time before the winning goal came. Michael made a great pass and threaded a great ball through to Ryan J who finished coolly under the keeper.
Well done lads and keep up the great work!

MOM Ryan Brown

Sunday 25th March
North Shields Eagles 2 Alnwick Town 0
Goals Luke Barton 2

A geat performance and a great win for The Eagles.
Every player played their part in a brilliant performance and got the team back in contention for the league title. From the kick off the boys went at Alnwick and if not for a great goalkeeping performance from Alnwicks keeper it could have been a much higher scoreline.
After a few close efforts Luke prodded home the opening goal midway through the first half. Further shots from Ryan, Sam and Reece followed but would just not go in.
The second half was similar to the first and all the players passed the ball extremely well and defended resolutely. Luke added his and the teams second goal and gave the scoreline a more realistic look. The chances kept coming but the boys just could not add to their tally.

Well done everyone and keep up the great play.

MOM Ryan Jordan

Sunday 18th March
Hebburn Town 3 North Shields Eagles 0

A good performance but no prize is my opinion after Sunday's defeat.
Hebburn have some good players and we knew we were in for a tough game before kick off but The Eagles played some lovely football aswell as matching them in the tackles.
Hebburn scored three very similar goals, all through the centre of the pitch but other than that Thomas really did not have to make many saves as the boys kept the ball well and created a few chances of their own.
The Hebburn keeper made some good saves and Luke thudded a header against the crossbar but it was not to be although we did come out of the game with our heads held high.
Keep up the hard work boys and we will be back to our winning ways!

MOM Sam Stout

Sunday 11/3/12
North Shields Eagles  1   Cramlington Town Whites  1
Goal     Reece Armstrong

After a convincing win the previous week The Eagles were confident of another 3 points against Cramlinton. Unfortunately it was not to be as Cramlington worked very hard and prevented the boys from playing free flowing football.
Cramlington took the lead halfway through the first half after a fine solo run from their key player was calmly finished in the bottom corner. The Eagles did not create many chances and at half time were still 1-0 down.

The second half was much better for the home team and they started to get into a little bit of a rythmn. Chances were now being created by the midfieldand and some long range efforts from the defenders were putting Cramlington under a lot of pressure. Eventually halfway through the second half a high ball into the box was volleyed home convincingly by Reece to bring the score level. The Eagles eventually ran out of time and had to settle for a draw.

I think if we can be a little more patient when we have time on the ball and move the ball quicker when we are under pressure the games will become a lot easier for us.
Well done and lets get ourselves ready for a tough game away at Hebburn next week.

MOM    Michael O'Donnell

Sunday 4th March

Bedlington Lightning 0    North Shields Eagles  5

Goals  Luke Barton 3  Sam Stout 1 Ryan Brown 1

MOM  Owen Davidson

A revenge mission was on the cards for The Eagles after a cup defeat the previous weekend. Despite losing 'super keeper' Thomas to illness the boys showed Bedlington how it should be done and produced their best display of the season.
Michael donned the keeper jersey and had very little to do but still looked cool when called upon.
An early goal by Luke settled any nerves and from then on The Eagles were in total command. Tackles were being won in every position on the pitch and the passing from the team was was excellent. Ryan Brown hit another great shot from outside the box to make it 2-0 and Luke added another to make it 3 and extremely comfortable for the lads.
Owen, Adam, Christian and Ryan were defending magnificently and when they won the ball were passing out into midfield and keeping great possesion of the ball. Ryan J, Reece and Sam were brilliant in midfield and caused the Bedlington team all kind of problems. Luke worked his socks off up front and put their defence under enourmous pressure. Two further goals from Sam and Luke were added in the second half and The Eagles took all three points very comfortably.
Well done everyone. 10 out of 10 awarded for the whole performance.

Sunday 29th January
Alnwick Town 1   N/S Eagles 2

Goals   Barton 2

MOM    Sam Stout

The second tough game of the weekend took us up to Alnwick Town who gave us a beating at home last year.
Revenge was very much on the cards for The Eagles and after a delayed kick off due to a frozen pitch the game got underway.
From the first minute both teams gave their all and tackles were being put in all over the pitch. The boys did not seem to lose any and kept the ball very well for long periods of time. Ryan J and Sam especially in midfield were giving the Alnwick team plenty to think about. Just before half time Luke came off the bench and within a minute prodded home the opening goal and then very shortly afterwards another. Alnwick battled back in the second half and if it was not for some great defensive play from our back four they could have got back into the game. Ryan Brown was superb on the left.  Adam, Christian and Owen all made important tackles. Alnwick eventually got one back, after we also had numerous chances to extend our lead, but it was not enough and in the end we were again deserved winners.
Well done boys on a great weekend and great football. Let's keep up the hard work and stay rooted to the top of that league!

Saturday 28th January League Cup
N/S Eagles 3  Amble FC 0

Goals Jordan 1 Barton 1 O'Donnell 1

MOM Luke Barton

The first of two games this weekend was against Premier League opposition in the shape of Amble FC.
The Eagles came out deserved winners against a tough team and had it not been for their keeper making some very good saves the score could have been higher.
Every player played their part and tackled and passed their way through the game. The first goal came from some great work by Ryan J down the right and his shot just crept over the line before Luke prodded it home just to make sure! The second followed shortly afterwards when a ball from the left found it's way to Michael who volleyed the ball into the corner of the net.
After the break the boys continued to dominate and played some lovely neat passes to one another and  eventually this payed off again and Luke got his customary goal to seal a well deserved win.
Bring on the next Premier team for another giant killing performance!

22/01/12 - North Shields Eagles  1   Hebburn Hornets    1
Goal    Luke Barton

MOM   Thomas Close

This fixture was a true test as to how far The Eagles have come in the last few seasons. Hebburn were a big team and listening to their manager's comments before the game they expected to come and steam roller the home team. In the first few minutes it appeared that this could be the case as they dominated with some powerful play from the back but The Eagles soon realised that they must buckle down and work hard which is exactly what they did. Tackles were won fair and square and personal battles were happening all over the pitch. Reece, Ryan and Sam all had good chances in the first half to put the Eagles ahead but some good goalkeeping from Hebburn kept the scoreline level at the break.

Two minutes into the second half The Eagles took a well deserved lead. Adam won the ball well in his own half and put a great ball into the box were 'Poacher' Luke was once again on hand to stab home the opening goal. More chances were created by both teams but some great goalkeeping by Thomas and the Hebburn keeper kept the game on a knifedge. Halfway through the second half however a cross, come shot, eluded Thomas and Hebburn were level.

The game ended all square and was probably a fair result on comparing possession and chances although their coach did disagree with this and felt that they had 'blitzed' us! I was astounded at his comment and did let him know my feelings.  Well done lads and as I said yesterday, if you work hard you get rewards and we still remain unbeaten in this new league.

Sunday 8th January
N/S Eagles 2     Bedlington Lightning 1
Goals   Reece Armstrong

MOM    Sam Stout

A New Year and a New League for The Eagles and they boys got off to a winning start.

It is always a tough fixture against Lightning and this was no exception. The two evenly matched teams created few chances in a nervous first half. The one chance Bedlington did create resulted in a goal though and The Eagles found themselves one down at the break.

The second half was a lot more open and the Eagles definitely raised their game with some great possession play and neat football. Chances were coming thick and fast but the goals would just not come and it was not until 10 minutes to go that Reece found a little bit of space on the edge of the box and calmly lifted the ball over the Bedlington keeper to bring the score level. In a very tense last few minutes both managers were expecting the game to end in a draw but The Eagles and Reece had other ideas. After some good play down the right the ball was squared to Reece on the edge of the box and he hammered a left foot shot into the top of the net which sent the team and spectators into a frenzy! The game ended shortly after and it was a well deserved win for the home team.

The whole team played their part in this win and special mentions were given to Reece for his goals (more next week please!), Christian for his excellent passing and defending, Owen for being a rock at the back and MOM Sam for his tireless running in midfield.

Please remember what I said at the end of the match. The players this season will have to earn their place in the team and the better they play the more minutes on the pitch they will probably have.
Very well done on our first 3 points!

Sunday 18th December
Longhoughton Vipers 3  North Shields Eagles 1
 Goal     Luke Barton

M.O.M Thomas Close

A long away trip to Longhouton's 5 star set up ended in defeat after a closely matched game.
Playing on the new 3G pitch was a pleasure as it meant the ball could be passed to feet with ease and both teams tried their best to do so. In a tight first half the Eagles took the lead half way through with another fine strike by Luke. Another Eagles goal in this half I think, would have sealed victory for our boys but it would not come and Longhoughton battled back well. They shaded the second half and duly scored three very good goals. More chances fell to both teams and if it wasn't for some excellent goalkeeping the score could well have been 6-6. Well done Thomas!

I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and New Year and returns positive and committed to the team for a big push to win the division title!

Sunday 4th December
North Shields Eagles  0  Cramlington Junior Blacks 3

MOM  Owen Davidson

After a convincing win the previous day the Eagles were in a confident mood against the league leaders who had not lost a game all season. The match started end to end and the parents/spectators witnessed a cracking game with both teams showing a great attitude to win. Cramlinton unfortunately edged the first half with an, unlucky for us, deflection giving them the lead.
The second half was more of the same from both teams and great passing, shooting and tackling kept the two managers on the sideline biting their nails! Excellent performances from Thomas in goal kept us in the game and Adam, Christian and Ryan B in defence were matched brilliantly by the midfield, Reece, Ryan J, Michael and Luke. But a special mention to Sam who ran things in midfield and Owen who was absolutely outstanding at the back. All these great performances meant that Cramlington did not see the game going their way.
Two late goals were conceded as we pushed forward in search of an equaliser and the game ended 3-0, flattering the Cramlington team.
I was extremely  proud of how the boys matched this excellent teamand hope we continue this into our last game of the season.

Saturday 3rd December
Cramlinton Town Yellows  1    North Shields Eagles  4
 Goals   O'Donnell 1, Stout 1, Jordan 1, Davidson 1

MOM    Michael O'Donnell

Saturday saw us take on our first Cramlington team of the weekend  in a revised fixture on a nice big flat pitch. The Eagles played some really neat football, keeping lots of possession and creating lots of goalscoring opportunities. Despite all of the good early play the boys found themselves a goal down twn minutes in after the Cramlington forward found some space in the box. This spurred on the Eagles and we equalised late in the half  after a great corner from the right found Michael in the box and he headed the ball into the back of the net.
The second half was a one sided affair and the boys continued creating chances. Further goals from Sam, Ryan and Owen gave the Eagles a convincing.  A great performance from the boys and a warm up for a tough match on the following day!

Sunday 27th November

Blyth Rangers 0 North Shields Eagles 13

Goals- Sam Stout  3 ,Luke Barton 2, Ryan Jordan 1, Owen Davison 2, Adam Findlay 2, Reece Armstrong1, Michael O'Donnnell 2

MOM   Owen Davison

A very windy morning and a very convincing win for The Eagles.

There were great performances from all the boys today and well taken goals in very difficult conditions.

Owen stood out slightly with his fearless tackling and he also scored his first goal of the season which helped him clinch the Man of the Match award.

Well done lads!

Sunday 20th November
North Shields Eagles  3   Alnwick Town  6
Goals  Armstrong  2  Stout  1

MOM   Reece Armstrong

Another weekend and another hard game for The Eagles against a big well organised Alnwick team.

The Eagles got off to a great start and were ahead within 5 minutes after some neat passing lead to a fine strike by Reece which found the bottom corner. Alnwick were a determined team though and hit back with a couple of goals before half time to give them a interval lead.

Our boys played better in the second period and tried to play to feet when they could and did have a few chances to get back into the game but as always, when you push up too much to create chances gaps are left at the back and Alnwick took full advantage of this and scored twice within two minutes to give them a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles did not give up and a great finish by Sam after a fine build up and then another great shot by Reece gave us a chance at 4-3. But it was not to be as at the resulting kick off Alnwick went atraight down the other end and extended their lead more with a bullet of a shot. Our heads went down a little, time was running out  and after a 6th goal by Alnwick we had to accept defeat.

Always try to remember to close the ball down quickly and concentrate for the whole 50 minutes and we will get the points we deserve.

Sunday 13th November
Whitley Bay Whites  2   North Shields Eagles  3

Goals  Armstrong, Findlay, Barton

MOM  Reece Armstrong

Sunday's game turned out to be a lot tougher than The Eagles expected as Whitley Bay put in a very spirited perfomance in front of their home supporters.

In the first couple of minutes Luke's shot was dropped by the keeper to put us 1 up and it looked then as if it was a pure formality that we were going to take all three points but Whitley Bay had other ideas and after some persisitant pressure from their number 4, who had a great game, they drew level just before the break.

The Eagles tried to play some football in the second period but the pitch was heavy and the ball was not moving as quick as they wanted it to. The boys were begining to get impatient and were putting pressure on the Whitley defence but this lead to the home team breaking away and scoring another goal to put them 2-1 up. With only 6 or 7 minutes to go the Eagles were looking at defeat but they all raised their game and kept putting Whitley under pressure. Eventually, when their keeper kicked out a goalkick, Reece controlled the ball in midfield and struck a fine shot into the corner of the net to pull the game level. With just a few minutes now left some good passing in midfield between Reece and Sam lead to a great ball being put into the box were Adam was at hand to volley a super shot into the net. The ref then blew for full time. Result!
A well relieved manager, team and parents take from this game that you should never under estimate your opponents....football is a funny game!

Some good performances all over the pitch today, especially Reece, who is playing like his old self again and deserved his MOM and also Adam who was unlucky to just miss out on MOM after a brilliant game and match winning goal. Well done lads!

Sunday 6th November
North Shields Eagles  1   Walker Central  2
Goal   Reece Armstrong

MOM  Sam Stout

A tough, tough match this week for the Eagles againts a Walker team who had only conceded one goal so far this year in the league.

Despite this, the first half was equally matched with both teams  having chances to score but prevented by excellent defending and goalkeeping. This kept the score at 0-0 going into half time.

The second half proved a challenge for the boys with aggression coming at them from all corners. Walker managed to slip through our defence and scored two good goals but the boys did not give up. They pushed forward at every opportunity and eventually Reece (who played excellent despite having an injured arm) collected the ball and struck it hard over the keepers head into the top of the net.

The game finished 1-2 but a very fine performance and one the team should be proud of.

Sunday 30th October
Ashington CFC    2       North Shields Eagles    1
Goal   Sam Stout

MOM  Owen Davidson

Another bright sunny Sunday morning and a visit to the land of the giants for The Eagles!

The Eagles faced a tough Ashington side and were probably a little intimidated in the first half because of the size of their opponents. Within minutes we were a goal down after Ashington scored from a corner and it looked like it was going to be a long hard match for the boys.

The Eagles kept trying hard and played some neat football but were struggling to score against a physical Ashington defence. Ashington scored again midway through the first half and we went in at half time 2-0 down.

The second half was a different story as the boys started to work really hard to get back into the game. Owen, Ryan and Christian all gave as good as they got and put in some great tackles and when we won the ball back Sam and  Ryan got into some great positions to create a few chances to get back into the game. In the last few minutes a good move down the right by Ryan opened up the Ashington defence and he crossed the ball into Sam who finished the shot into the bottom corner of the net. A few more chances came our way but we eventually ran out of time.

We need to keep up our heads and try to play more like we did in the 2nd half and also try to play a lot quicker when we have possession.

Sunday 23rd October
Morpeth Pumas  4  North Shields Eagles  8
Goals     Barton 3     Armstrong 1  Stout  2   Findlay  1  Jordan 1

MOM      Ryan Jordan

Another great win for the Eagles against a determined Morpeth team.

The boys played some really great football against Morpeth Pumas and were on top within 60 seconds when Luke prodded home after some great work by Ryan Jordan. Morpeth came right back though to equalize but The Eagles continued to put pressure on their goal and further goals were added in both halves by Ryan J, Reece, Adam and Sam.

Reece played excellent in the first half and created lots of chances for himself and his team mates. Sam played some great one-twos with his midfield/forward counterparts and Ryan J ran the Morpeth defence ragged with continued runs up and down the line.

Adam, Owen, Ryan B and Michael all defended resolutely, as well as trying to get forward when they could. Thomas saved some excellent, on target, shots which kept the scoreline in our favour.

Overall every player played their own part in an excellent team display and more football like this will see us quickly climb the league. Well done lads!

Sunday 9th October  Divisional cup round 1
North Shields Eagles 18      Whitley Bay Acadamy Blues 0

Goals......  Barton 3, Armstrong 3, O'Donnell 3, Jordan 2, Findlay 4, Sharp1, Brown 1, Stout 1

MOM.......  Sam Stout

A rather one sided game which allowed most of our players to get on the scoresheet.
In matches like this it is always a shame for the other team to concede so many goals but in earlier years we have been on the wrong side of some high scoring games so it just goes to show how much we have all improved in the last 3 years!

Well done to all of you. There were some great passing movements in the game especially in the first half from Sam to bring in his team mates. This awarded him a well deserved Man of the Match award.

Another Whitley Bay team awaits us in th next round in January so let us  hope we can continue to improve and have a long cup run.

As we have come to expect Bedlington are always tough opponents and Sunday was no different. On other ocasions we have always come out on top but it was just not our day and even though there were many chances created the goals would just not come.

After a very even first half with chances from both teams we found ourselves down yet again at the break after slack marking allowed their forward to steal in and take his chance.

Everybody raised their game in the second period and we were creating chance after chance but the Bedlington keeper was in outstanding form and we just could not break through.and unfortunately we fell 2 behind halfway through the 2nd half and it left us a lot to do. Our constant pressure finally paid off when Reece struck a fine shot to give us a goal and a fighting chance.  A third Bedlington goal followed shortly after though and time was running out for the Eagles. In the last couple of minutes Ryan Jordan found a space in the box and squeezed his shot in but it was just too late to do any more and Bedlington were overjoyed with their win.

Overall I was very pleased with everyones performance because we never gave up and created many chances that on a different day would have given us a comfortable win and 3 points. Please do not be disappointed and keep your heads up for the cup match next week.

Another win for The Eagles in an entertaining game against Ellington Eagles. In a close first half we found ourselves 1-0 down within ten minutes due to some slack defending, but the boys bounced back to finish the half strongly and go into the break 5-1 ahead. There was some lovely one touch football leading to goals from Luke, Reece, Sam and Ryan J. The whole team were enjoying the game and produced some lovely flowing football and were full of confidence going into the second half.

Further goals from Luke and Adam finished off The Ellington team and gave The Eagles 3 precious points . I hope we can continue to keep looking up and passing to our team mates because it gives me great satisfaction to see us try to play to feet and work on and off the ball.
Sam pulled the strings throughout the match in midfield and well deserved his MOM award. Well done to all.

18/09/11 - North Shields Eagles: 4 - 4 Wallsend B.C

Goals:
Sam Stout: 2
Luke Barton: 1
Reece Armstrong: 1

As you would always expect Wallsend are always a difficult team to play against and this game was no exception - but the eagles players done themselves, the manager and spectators proud in this great performance.
The eagles were ahead after just a couple of minutes after a great ball down the line by Michael found Sam unmarked in the box and finished his shot smoothly under the keeper. The team kept playing some great football and would have been further ahead during the half but the goals would just not come. Wallsend battled back and just before half time they scored twice to give the game an unjust score line at the break.
Shortly into the second half the eagles were 4-1 down and were starting to look a bit sorry for themselves but some dogged determination kept them going and when Sam fired his second goal the team could see a way back. Ryan and Luke were causing the Wallsend defence problems and Reece was also getting into some great positions. After an eagles attack we were awarded a corner and Reece put over a screamer which flew into the top corner of the net to make it 4-3. A few minutes later more great work down the line saw Luke pinch the ball of their defender and slot it into the net to bring us level at 4-4.
Wallsend were very nervous after this and it only looked as if there was only one team going to win – more pressure in the last minute gave Luke a chance to win the game for the eagles but his powerful shot cannoned of the post and out of play. The whistle went and Wallsend sighed a huge relief.

Well done every one of you today on a hardworking display and some lovely precise passing.

11/09/11 - Ponteland Pumas 2  North Shields Eagles  5

Goals    Barton 4
             Stout   1

MOM  Ryan Jordan

The first away match of the season ended with 3 points to the Eagles but only after a hard fought battle which could have seen either team win.

The Eagles were slow to start and wasted one or two opportunities to open the scoring which allowed Ponteland to create and score a goal halfway through the 1st half.

The team reponded well and with 5 minutes or so to go bfore half time Sam made a good run into the box and has his attempted shot handled by a Ponteland defender and therefore awarding us a penalty. 'Makers Takers' was the cry and Sam stepped up to take the kick. Unfortunately for him and his team mates the keeper made a good save and the scoreline stayed the same. The Eagles were level though one or two minutes later after Sam's run in the box saw him lift the ball over the keeper to make it 1-1 at halftime.

The start of the second half was rather untidy from the Eagles point of view as we lost possession and wasted a lot of the ball which resulted in Ponteland punishing us with their second goal. This however spurred on the team and Ryan and Luke stepped up their game and started to cause the opposition defence major problems.
In the space of 10 minutes the Eagles (Luke) scored 4 goals which were all well taken and had some great bits of team play involved in the build up.

Once we learn to play this way throughout the whole game points will come much easier and the matches won't be as nerve wracking for the manager and team spectators!

Well done everyone and let's keep trying to keep our heads up when running with the ball and pass to team mates when calls are made for the ball. We all need to learn to relax on the ball when we have time and space.....this is something I will work on on training.

04/09/11 - North Shields Eagles 1     Newcastle City Lisbon 4
Goal    Luke Barton

MOM  Luke Barton

The Eagles faced a challenging start to the new season against a very well organised Newcastle Team but the final scoreline did not show a true reflection of the game.
After falling behind halfway through the 1st half to a softish goal The Eagles responded positively and created a few chances on goal with some excellent approach play.
Newcastle expected a lot of time on the ball but they did not get any as all of our players were constantly putting them under pressure. Another soft goal on the stroke of half time meant we went into the second half 2 down but the boys never gave up trying in the second half were rewarded with a well taken goal after Reece found Luke unmarked in the box and he cooly finished in the bottom corner.

The Eagles played on top for a few minutes and created more chances to draw level after Ryan J, Michael, Reece, Christan and Luke all saw their efforts either well saved or go just wide. Us pushing forward gave Newcastle a bit of extra space and they duly exploited it by scoring another 2 goals which left the game ending 4-1.
We have to take all the positives out of the game and more performances from all the players like this and we will certainly win more games than lose this season!

Thomas.... 8/10  Some very god handling and kicking. Try to take a little more time to make the right decisions.
Michael.... 8/10   Good tackling and passing. Try and get back quicker to cover your position and do not let their players run past you.
Adam......  8/10  Solid tackling at times and some good distribution. Try to remember your position and do not chase out after the ball and leave big gaps behind you.
Ryan B......8/10  Always working hard and keeping in your position well. Try to learn to compose yourselfwhen in space and when you have control of the ball.
Owen........9/10  Great positional play and excellent tackling. Keep being positive and keep passing to feet.
Christian .. 8/10  Some great touches and kept in position (even when sometime playing out of your normal position) Stay positive and remember to get a good night sleep!
Ryan J.....  8/10  Some great displays of skill and never stopped running. Try to keep your head up and take the ball wide of your defender using your great pace.
Reece.....   8/10 Great bits of play and lots of effort (at times). Try more to look up and find/pass to your team mates earlier than you a doing.
Luke........ 9/10  Never stopped running, got into some great positions and the goal was very well taken. Try to hold the ball up and bring in other team mates quicker.
