CLUB
HISTORY
Since its formation in 1996 with three junior soccer teams, the Club has enjoyed continued success and rapid development, until in the current season of 2009/2010, we now have 42 teams in the age range of 7 to 18 years plus senior men’s and ladies teams – in total catering for over 600 playing members proudly wearing the North Shields Juniors Strip.
From the inception of the Club with junior soccer, mini soccer was added in 2001, followed a few years later with the introduction of a soccer skills format on Saturday mornings, which regularly attracts up to 200 participants a week.
We are indeed proud to see young people who started with the Club at its outset, now providing coaching and management services, having progressed through every age group and now helping younger players to hopefully achieve the same.
The Girls section was introduced in 2002 and has itself enjoyed exceptional success and growth to achieve the current 7 teams – again giving everyone to progress from U10’s to the senior Ladies team.
In 2007 we were awarded the prestigious “Charter Standard Community Club” status – the highest accolade currently available.
As a sign of our commitment to all youngsters of our “community”, we believe everyone should have the chance to participate and develop irrespective of ability. As a progression of this commitment, we were granted recognition as being a “Deaf Friendly Club” – the first in the area to achieve this award.
From our Trustees through the management committee to our qualified Managers and Coaches, the Club is run on a purely voluntary basis with the pure intention to provide grass routes soccer in a structured, safe and fun setting for all those who wish to partake
As a means of re-cycling old strips and boots, we have over the last year supported the RAF’s “Strips to Africa” campaign, and this season are developing our own direct links with a school in Africa to whom we will be providing clothing and footwear.
In addition, we have over the years, forged links with Clubs in France, Holland, Spain and the USA, and will continue to develop these and other overseas links as time goes on.
To the future, the Club never stands still, and we continue in our efforts to establish our own ground and base, and we look forward to all our current and future members joining us on our journey towards new developments and successes.
